Loving the new options as well.
I stalk these forums and keep my fingers crossed for a 42 inch low lag TV (and I’m willing to spend some money if I need to). Haven’t found something big enough to replace my big old lagless crt.

The first post in this thread shows input latency for each monitor, including the Evo one, which by definition means it is not lagless. That same post also lists monitors that are better in regards to input latency.
Rampage, I just come from an earlier era of monitors is all. I grew up playing competitive Quake (mostly Q3) and CS later on and CRT’s were where it was at. There was no such thing as input delay but now with LCD’s you can get quite a bit since measurements are an average so you can lose even 2 frames on the best LCD’s. The only “lagless” displays to me are CRT’s. I just dislike people throwing out words like “lagless” to describe things when it’s not actually true as the term can easily get broadened when used incorrectly (recent example: stream monsters). It’s not semantics…it’s either true or it’s not true. Not a big deal really so I won’t push any more…it’s a lazy Sunday afterall
Yeah, that HP would be pretty much perfect for me if it wasn’t 60hz I’m ok with paying a premium if it helps with eye strain (my old 160hz crt never gave me problems where my 60hz does). I went looking for a 30" tv yesterday to see if I could get one that was 120hz and 1080p and the guy at Nebraska Furniture Mart said they simply don’t make them and he thought it was because it would hurt the monitor branch of a lot of those companies business since they can get a premium out of certain products by keeping them separate. It’s why a 27" LCD monitor costs 300-400 bucks when you can buy a TV cheaper that is bigger.
I am simply stoked that Anandtech will start testing input lag with future monitors. I love that website and read it daily and they have ironclad reviews so that may be a good source for all of us with new monitors. Now if only they reviewed TV’s too.
Anybody seen this yet? http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/13/eizo-foris-fs2333-23-inch-gaming-monitor/
"The input lag, which is the difference between when a signal is input into the monitor and then shown on the screen, is just 0.05 frames."
I don’t see with how much post-processing that monitor boasts, that it can still keep the input lag down… but it looks promising if they’re not just blowing smoke.
… also, don’t expect under a $500 price tag for this. That’s going to keep it away from it’s target “EVO Monitor” market.
Yeah I was thinking the same, I’m not looking for a monitor as just picked up a FW900 but saw that and thought I’d flag it up in here.
Is the S27A950D a good choice?
Also the monitor will work at 60hz due to being hdmi and not dvi-d right? not like it matters since console games run at 60hz for the most part, so just looking for a good low input lag solution.
Thanks
I got a 27" Samsung P2770FH a about a month ago and while it isn’t the greatest monitor in the world it works for me pretty darn well, especially since it only has 1 millisecond pixel-response rate. (i.e. input lag) The only downside is that the only two inputs it has are one HDMI port and one DVI port. It also doesn’t have any sound but it does have and audio out and an optical audio out. Most places online that I’ve seen have the new ones for like $350+ but I got mine used on eBay for $250.
How do you know it has exactly 1ms input lag?
And I hope you’re not referring to its advertised 1ms response time.
Well yeah I was cuz I thought thats what it meant, and it is alot faster response than any other flatscreen I’ve ever had.
Hi
I ordered a new LED HDTV. It should be delivered in a few hours.
It is the LG 37LV450u. From PC World/Currys
I can’t find any reviews about it.
I’m very concerned that this set will have lots of input lag. If I open it and test it I can’t return it.
I’m thinking about returning it and waiting to get a TV with know low input lag.
Mainly be using it for AE. Don’t want to be stuck with a laggy TV but otherwise the TV is good deal @£350 and now sold out.
What should I do?
I would ideally like to know from someone who has this TV or find some information out for me. I can’t find anything.
I have had decent experience with LG tvs. But maybe my reaction speed sucks to begin with. Give it a try and see if it’s something you can notice.
That isn’t the same thing as input lag. You should read the start of this thread or google input lag and you’ll learn the difference. The 1ms your monitor advertises has to do more with the monitor keeping fast moving images from ghosting. But it has nothing to do with how fast an input from your console/pc shows up on your screen as the monitor may delay the signal to add in post processing to make the image look better which is where the input lag comes from. So the image may show up fast enough to not ghost but the amount of time it takes for the input to be represented on the screen is what input delay is and to my knowledge 0 monitor/tv’s advertise how much input lag they have.
Does anyone know the input lag for the alienware evo monitor? Is it less than the asus evo monitor?
There used to be a youtube video showing the input lag of that monitor (the Alienware AW2210) before the channel was removed, but the test showed 10ms of lag which is below 1 frame. I have one myself as well.
i still have my old CTR tv and hook up my playstation to it every once in a while so i can compare it to my hdtv.
it seems the old (phillips) tv lags or plays the games slower than my samsung hdtv. the only difference between them is the old tv has less motion blur but has flickering in some areas. oh, and the phillips tv looks f*cking ugly and hurts my eyes!
An interesting monitor to find out more about would be the Yamakasi Catleap 27" LED 2560x1440 WQHD S-IPS monitor. It’s 60Hz base but apparently there is some models with PCB’s that can be overclocked to 125hz. They are the “2B” models that seem to cost a bit more on Ebay and other sites.
However, I have no clue how it would do with fighting games. The monitor doesn’t have a ton of post processing so it MAY be OK in regards to input lag but it’s got a 6ms g2g rating which means it could have some motion blur/ghosting (which has nothing to do with input lag but is still important for fast action).
So with the stats of 27", S-IPS, 2560x1440 (usually scaling a 720/1080 signal up doesn’t cause lag but I can’t verify that), ~120hz and a good price. Non-2B models are $350 or less and the 2b models were $450+…which is dirt cheap for 27" IPS at that resolution. Of course if you use this monitor for your computer gaming then running games at the native resolution may kill your PC since most video cards don’t do well at that resolution.
So the Asus evo monitor is better?
I just bought the SHARP Aquos 42" LED TV (LC-42LE540U) and the lag on this thing is atrocious. I tried several things to try and make it better (game mode, switching to 720p, etc.) but nothing seemed to help. Tried playing SF4:AE in training mode and about half a second of lag was quite noticeable and made my gaming experience unplayable. I’m used to playing on a VH236H so getting something with as little lag as possible would be best for me. Gonna return it when I have a chance and try my luck with something else.
On that note, does anyone have any experience with Panasonic Plasmas? Specifically the Panasonic VIERA 50" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV (TCP50U50)?
I bought the mid range Panasonic TC-P50GT30 in February. I can only say that it is indeed lagless without proof. But what I can say is that the lower grade model; the TC-P42ST30, is listed on the first page of the thread, and the GT30 is just an upgraded version of the one listed.
The 2012 models available now, i think they have names with “GT50” in them, instead of the 30, but I haven’t researched anything about them.
I want to see an input lag measurement of this monitor ASAP. Someone make it happen!
