hdtvtest.co.uk has some reviews with input lag. i’m pretty sure you can find something there.
thread hasn’t been too helpful when it comes to recent televisions, but excellent when it comes to older televisions and monitors still in production.
you should try avsforum. i would look into a sharp aquos with vyper drive game mode. i’ve been reading good things about it. gets it down to about two frames of input lag. good for casual play in HD, but it depends on what you want. wouldn’t recommend taking two frames of lag online.
Problem is recent TV’s get reviewed and found to not have input lag under a frame thus do not make the list. If tv manufacturers start giving a shit about input lag maybe the list would have even more new TV’s, however that is simply not the case. Other than a few of the recent Panasonic and Samsung plasma range and that one Toshiba LCD every recent HDTV they have reviewed has had pretty poor input delay (2 frames+), thus does not make the list.
@Bhof: I’m in Australia as well and your best bet is buying a 27" LCD, since they will be within your price range and you can purchase LCD’s in that size range with low input lag. A friend owns Samsung S27A350H here and we use it for meets and me and other players agree this monitor has very low input lag. Not one person complained about lag on the display and it can be had for pretty cheap. Simply use staticice.com.au to do a search on it and purchase from closet PC store. (I highly recommend pccasegear.com.au)
The closest I’ve seen anyone come to testing it was this site
According to this news piece the 550 and 350 are the same display, however the 550 has HDMI input and the 350 only has DVI. So, you’d need a HDMI > DVI converter to plug in console or what have you.
After reading up on how prad.de test input lag I came away very impressed. I’m in the process of going through their reviews and updating the first post with new models. (Also, adding them to sources)
no problem, hope i can more help.
the list on first side is not fair, 1st place have a realy nice latency but thats a ips panel !
0,6ms or 1ms inputlag + 8ms response time
better u write for example : dellxxx 0,6ms inputlag - 8ms reponse time -
complete latency 8,6ms
u know what i mean with my german-english ^^ ?
From the hours spent researching TVs when I was building my cab, this one seemed to have the best results. Panasonic TC-L32U3. Not sure why, but for it to be consistently in the acceptable lag range, you need to use HDMI 2 (in game mode of course). It gets played by many VERY picky FG players, and not one person has had an issue with it. Even the guy we were almost 100% certain would say it lagged, didn’t have any problems. I knew it had to be good.

lag test results - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=20245822#post20245822
I’m pretty sure it isn’t made anymore, but I use a HannSpree HF229H (http://www.hannspree.com/Global/Product/Legacy/LCDMonitors/HF229HPB/Detail.aspx?sort=2&page=1&pattrs=1,2&attrs=5,7&viewAll=0) monitor and tested it using SMTT 2.0 using 50 pictures. I got an average input lag of 2.4 ms with a standard deviation of 1.0 ms. I was using the HDMI input at the native resolution (1680x1050). I know this isn’t too useful for those looking to buy a monitor now, but those who have one can know that it is “lag-free.”
Anyone know of HDTV’s in the 40"+ sizes outside of the Panasonics that are sub 1 frame? I feel like putting my ps3 in a backpack and hooking it up to all of their tv’s I can afford until I find the right one. Also, Refresh rate (60hz, 120hz, 240hz, 600hz) has nothing to do with the lag, right?
Refresh rate says how many times per second the display is capable of displaying a new image. It does not tell you anything about the input lag, but I cannot conclusively say that they are not related.
I asked this question in the other HDTV thread but I might as well ask it here:
So I just bought an ASUS VH236H and my Rock Band clocked it in as having over 40ms of lag. Isn’t that considerably more than one frame of lag? I know that the Rock Band calibration has it’s own built in lag but I was expecting a much better reading. Is it because I’m using HDMI? I’m thinking that shouldn’t be an issue.
Update: I wasted 40 bucks in a VGA cable and didn’t get much of an improvement. (36ms instead of 42ms). Also, putting in game mode does nothing other than make the image look really washed out.
going to buy an asus soon, and just wanted to know if there’s any difference between vh236 and the vh238 besides one being LED. also how are these monitors when used as a desktop?
I don’t know that we’ve ever gotten conclusive results aside from someone posting that they get the same rock band test results for both displays. Given everything we know they should be the same except for the back lighting. I’m using 2 VH238H for my computing needs. The stock color and brightness settings are hard on the eyes and they aren’t the greatest for color reproduction, I hear, but they work well enough.
I’m just bought the ASUS ML238, which i believe is the same as the MS238H but with a different stand. I am wondering what mode I should use to get the 5.05ms input lag: game mode, I’m assuming, or does it not matter? Also I use an HDMI cable if that makes a difference
I bought the Panasonic p42s30. So far Im very happy with the tv.
There is a noticable input lag in the normal mode (tested with Xbox360 version of SF4 doing just jabs) ! But after switching to “game mode” I dont feel any lag at all (hdtvtest.co.uk says 16 ms, but its unnoticable for me).
The Image is very good and natural. I need to test it with blue ray movies in the next days (I bought the tv as a allrounder. I wanted >40" and a tv for gaming and watching movies and it had to be a new model which is easily available, the Panasonic Plasma models seem to be a good and cheap solution.
