Streets of Rage Remake (Updates in First Post)

Totally agree dude. If Sega did a SOR4 with gameplay based on SOR3 (with dashes and etc) with new graphics, brought Yuzo Koshiro back and/or made top notch remixes of his shit, different paths and two bosses with good netcode, I’d buy it. In the age of reboots of just about every franchise why leave this one out?

Haven’t really been keeping up with the progress…

I have a copy of the game. Thankfully, I downloaded it on Wednesday.

Man, that really sucks. It’s like Sega intentionally waited until it was finalized before they decided to bring the hammer down. And here I thought that Sega just didn’t care enough to make an issue out of it. They’re like Nintendo now, lol.

Yeah, Rebecca Black told me she was looking forward to downloading this game today.
'Sucks for her, I suppose…

Seriously though, Sega should be paying the team who worked on this remake for doing the closest thing to breathing life back into the SoR series. Sega better be doing something fucking PHENOMENAL (like developing a GODLIKE SoR4 game) to warrant them trying to shut this operation down right after the final build gets released.

Wow, that really makes me look at sega in a new light. Not that I don’t expect this from a big company, but it seems like alot of blood sweat and tears went into this only for then to through a fit now…

I’ll never purchase another sor remake, hopefully there in the works to maybe pay these guys some royalties and officially drop it

Sega needs to make more Sonic games and not do anything else.

You can’t stop the internet. Companies like Sega are absolutely living in the stone age. That’s why Japanese gaming is so far behind the US now. It has nothing to do with free roam or linearity or any of that shit. The games are low quality and they refuse to listen to and adopt from the fans, who go out there and do the work for them if they just weren’t too stupid to let them do it.

It takes a special type of stupidity to hurt yourself out of spite towards others. And that is Japanese gaming.

I got the game and everyone else can get it online. I’m hoping somebody adds in online play. Bombergames is trying to resolve the issue with Sega, and pretty much the only way I can see this being resolved without Sega looking more assholish than they are is if they host it for free on their website, and add in the online play or some other feature as well. But if they are doing what is the most likely, and that is just try and stop this now, they deserve the bile and hatred that this failed company will probably get.

I unlocked Rudra, Elle, and Shiva. I would say that they are pretty much better than the default cast you start with. I personally like O. Shiva better than the Shiva you fight in-game, for some reason his lvl3 dash x seems to connect more fully than the normal version. Rudra is faster than pretty much anyone else I have right now and Elle and her can cast their special in places where the Police can’t like Mr. X’s boss room. I like how Rudra can play it safe with shurkens and dashing x. I managed to beat Mr. X on very hard solo this by staying slightly beneath is horizontal gunshot. Elle is very good, if you give her a knife her combo becomes different and seems to degrade a lot less than other characters. I also had a weird situation where she had a broken bottle and I basically standing combo fats guy to death with it and they didn’t even fall down.

Sucks to hear about Sega. They haven’t touched the series in over a decade, I don’t know why they would care now. I sort of would have expected that this would be kept alive because I thought something like this would be considered a fan work. But nice job to people uploading this game to let other people download, it deserves to be played.

The other good thing about elle is she can do her “police” move anywhere

Elle’s ‘Electric Wheel’ is pretty GDLK. I got more use out of that, then even Axel’s Grand Upper.

So what exactly does the first star give you? The second and third give you upgraded dash attacks, but I can’t figure out what the first star gives you. I haven’t seen any new moves at one star. Maybe it’s just a damage boost or something. Most of the enhanced dash attacks are pretty ridiculous. The sprites look really good too for original moves. At least I think they’re original, I don’t remember them in SOR2, but my recollection of SOR3 isn’t that great.

i play with the 3 star cheat all the time. it’s more fun

the exploding corpse cheat is the best though XD

I believe the 1 star upgrade just gives a slight boost to the default dash x. I noticed that Max’s slide seems to go a little farther, so i believe there might be a damage boost in that too.

Yea I play with the 3 star cheat too, you only lose 5000 from the endgame credits so it’s no big deal to turn it on.

Anyone have any thoughts on the different versions of each character? I never really found blaze that amazing, so I dunno about which version is better. Her dash attack is a little different between the 3 versions and the kikosho is just 1 blast for the sor1 and sor2 versions, which seem to do a higher burst the closer they are too the palm. I personally find the kikosho better in the older version than the one she does in sor3 version. I find SoR 3 Axel’s grand upper gets kind of goofy at lvl3 because of how it dips down than up. The only one I can say I like better is O.Shiva rather than his newer version. Sort of need to play with them a bit more to figure it out.

I was wondering if the community behind this game could sort of shoe-in netcode for this game. That would be really great, since this game already has a lot of love put into it. Sega could seriously just port this to xbla with netcode and I’ll gladly pay more for it than other xbla arcade games. But sadly, I highly doubt sega would do anything close to that.

Re: Star/Blitz system. It’s been around since SoR3. The first star is always a farther/faster version of the normal fwd, fwd+B attack.
You can also execute any lvl 2 or lvl 3 blitz without stars via special inputs after pressing X (for those who didn’t seem to know about that yet). Example: X, then Down, fwd, up executes Blaze’s lvl 3 blitz or X then Down, Fwd executes Axel’s lvl 2 blitz etc.

They’re pretty easy to figure out without looking at a movelist but they’re awkward as fuck trying to pull off mid-combo (character usually just pauses too long to do anything before the enemy escapes hitstun). Most lvl 2 blitzes are good combo starters for larger groups of enemies though, as it usually doesn’t knock every single enemy down (spacing dependent) and has really good recovery so you can attack right out of it.

Re: Character Versions: I’m not quite sure what advantages the SoR1 versions have yet, but SoR2 is DAMAGE while SoR3 versions are more techinal imo. I think SoR2 Skate is bordeline fucking broken except his neutral A is kind of ass in boss fights (no range). He’s already fast as hell, so ridiculous damage added to that speed makes him GDLK.
For Blaze though, I like her SoR3 version a lot better than the SoR2 version as she can space a bit more with her Kikosho (stays active longer due to the damage being distributed through multiple hits). Also I think her SoR3 pause delay just meshes with her moveset a lot better.

SoR1 Axel has invincibility on his Grand Upper, unlike the default version, so he’s fun to use. SoR2 Axel probably has it too.

Sor2 Shiva is even faster than sor3 Shiva. Didn’t think that was possible.

can someone PLEASE list all the level 2/3 X/Star moves please for the non SOR3 characters. pleaseeeeee

Apparently if you beat all the event modes you get the 19th chara Dr Zhivago or something. Beta Max doesn’t count he is a cheat.

His jab isn’t as good, though imo. I’ve noticed on multiple occasions that I cannot jab,jab walkup throw w/o the opponent walking away with sor2 shiva. I think sor3 shiva’s jab recovers faster (perhaps executing faster, too) and allows him to get more guaranteed damage off of pokes. I’m thinking w/ his new item moves and bs he is quite possibly the best by no small margin. It must be noted that I have not played as Mr. X or Ash and my Rudra mileage is limited.

EDIT: Also SEGA taking this down is the most stupid fucking thing I’ve heard this week (save for my boss asking me if I WANTED to work Saturday)

Hahaha man Sega had them take the game down? Well least it got out which means it’s already too late.

ok found the moves, if anyone is interested
