Yeah, I just found that out not too long ago. I suggest everyone to turn friendly fire off, set your lives to 6, and set your CPU partner to aggressive. Good shit. It’s almost like having another dude by your side becuase the A.I. does a damn good job. Seriously, whoever designed the A.I. deserves a medal. Maybe Capcom should hire them?
Long ass beat 'em up. The typical beat 'em up takes about a half hour to beat, this one takes almost two hours, and I had very few deaths up until the last level. Great stuff, plus I unlocked Mr. X as a playable character.
How is this the final version with this type of shitty grab range? I’m especially certain my fondest memories of Streets of Rage weren’t every single enemy being faster than my character and having crappy throw range. I had to immediately go back to Streets of Rage 1 and 2 after even attempting this shit.
It’s not so much that the throw range is bad, it’s more like the hit stun from moves is much shorter so it’s hard to close in on people. It’s harder for the enemies to run away from you if you have a partner. That is something that I didn’t like about the game either but once I got a partner I didn’t notice it. Another thing you can do is change the game to 50fps.
If you are playing with a CPU partner, I did get stuck on the rooftop stage because I passed an Apple and Max stood there for I don’t know how long just looking at it (at the part where you jump from a higher rooftop to a lower one) and had to restart. Only real gripe so far hahaha
The grab range is definitely worse, you could grab about a half a character’s distance further in Streets of Rage 1 for instance. Vertical movement for grabbing was a bit more viable as well, though yeah, enemies being a bit more proactive on attacking you (and also moving fast as fuck) compounds the issue. I wasn’t a fan of Streets of Rage 3, and this game clearly views it in a different light.
Ghetto ass attack patterns too, like enemies suddenly just jump kicking you with no warning. MUGEN of Rage just doesn’t feel solid compared to other games. You can have the enemies finish attacks without raping hitstun, for instance.
They included tons of enemies from SOR3… they are tough as fuck… bald headed dudes with the antiairs and the guys with the bandannas that can’t/shouldn’t be thrown are the most annoying characters ever… also those bitches who have invincibility when they get knocked down and just lay there also are up there with my most hated enemies…
Even though you get a free special attack when the gauge at the top is full that’s not really enough of a power up…
The roll does not have enough invincibility on it… I wish that they added some to it in this version…
In the developers’ defense though, they did improve characters to at least put them on par with the SOR3 characters… ex. Axel’s Bare Knuckle attack has its old invincibility from the SOR2…
Axel got raped powerwise in SOR3, glad to see its back to normal…
Throw range did not get nerfed(from what I’ve seen) but as you said, they nerfed your characters hitstun…
Also your character’s attacks come out faster along with this so you can’t keep the enemies in permanent hitstun while tapping the punch button until they die… I want that back, because mini boss/boss characters were easier to deal with…
Overall though, I still love this game:sweat::rock:
I think some of the decisions are good, like enemies actually not letting you walk up to them… but I thought throws were fun in Streets of Rage 1. So I think making a more proactive enemy type would give more justification to being able to put enemies in hit stun, but there’s a lot of things that are difficult without being interesting. Like, why the fuck is Garcia of all people suddenly dancing around you in every appearance he makes?
Like, who played Turtles in Time for the SNES and went “Man, I sure wish these footsoldiers were hitting me in the face a lot more”?
It just misses the point on what made this shit fun. I’d be a lot more optimistic if this wasn’t, apparently, the final version. There’s good stuff here, but I guess I can’t appreciate them compared to the feel of the past games.
I’ve noticed this too. As a Max player, I’ve been having crazy difficulty landing cross-up > Backbreaker. There are some other quirks to the AI too. It seems a lot harder to walk up behind someone as they’re waking up to get a back grab; most of the time they get up and immediately face you. You still get a free front grab, but this really hurts Max. They also anti-air much more than they used to, and several moves can knock you out of the air (I’ve been anti-air jabbed by Galsias, something they NEVER used to do).
These are minor complaints though, the game is fucking amazing. It’s absolutely mind-boggling to think about how much work was poured into this project over the EIGHT YEARS it was worked on, and the result is something stellar.
BIG kudos to Bomberlink and the rest of the Bombergames crew.
I think Max is awesome in this. His damage output is amazing, doing basically greater than 1 bar combos easily. Adam overhead smash also has godlike priority. I was hitting Mr.X while he was trying to shoot me with this move. It hops over the bullets. My only complaint about the AI is that on certain stages, they act really dumb. The helicopter part that keeps opening the door, my partner lost 4 lives running out there.
I have no problems with the grabs or anything, you should learn to play.
Only annoying boss is that Ultimate Warrior ripoff; you can’t even do a basic combo on him because he interrupts it after the 2nd hit. The giant fat bosses that shoot flames are pretty easy. Knock 'em down, walk away as they get up, then get 'em again. Pretty simple.
Two things I dislike:
The vehicle sequences. They go on way too long and are just button mashers.
The length. Two hours is too long for me. Way too long. It drags a little and you really have to set aside some time to play it from start to finish because if you quit midway through, it doesn’t save progress and it doesn’t save the points you acquired.
Syxx, i found the solution to your problem. Go down two floors and destroy the control panel in the 3rd rooom on that floor. Then go back up one floor to the second room.
I read in the manual if you Alt + X it exits and saves your state. I tested it and it started me at the beginning of the stage I was on. It goes directly to that spot, I dunno if I can have multiple save states.
I dunno about it taking 2 hours, probably a little over an hour maybe, but I didn’t try all the routes yet.
I need to find some Streets of Rage soundtracks. 4 was the last one, right? I love the factory theme from that game.
Also, fuck Streets of Rage, bring on Bugs Bunny and/or Woody Woodpecker in CRAZY CASTLE 6. :wow: Guest-starring the Streets of Rage crew, who ignore the maze mechanic and just beat the shit out of enemies/walls.
I just want to say this: Max (The Wrestler dude) just rapes bosses. His Suplex does almost triple the damage of every other character’s suplex and damn, he just detroys every boss. Particularly the fat guys who spit fire and Mr. X. Yeah, he completely destroys the hardest boss in the game.
I unlocked Ash, pretty much a waste. I should’ve unlocked Survival mode.
This is one of the best remakes I’ve ever played. They put so much content into it…I want to try the volleyball mini-game, but I don’t know how to unlock it. At the start of Stage 8, you have to kill 22 of the Robo X enemies, but I don’t know what gets unlocked if you do.
So far I earned enough cash to unlock Roo. I lost some money for using up continues, haha. Gotta get better and earn that money!
I think SRK should put SORR on their front page. This game is too good to overlook!
Blaze is pretty darn good. I can actually dodge attacks by walking now! She has pretty effective specials and blitz attacks(her upgraded Blitz attack is one of the best I’ve played so far, covering a lot of space), and her jump attacks are quick and have crazy reach.
