Streets of Rage 4 Announced!

I’ve been jumpkicking them before the get off the air, or giving myself some space and then hitting them on the way down. Timing my jumps to use the I-frames on Axel’s neutral jump is another one, but that’s harder to do when you have multiples jumping at you, with staggered timing.

I’m doing Stage Select on Mania, which seems to work as Story Mode of sorts.

I’m going back to Mania right now. @Pertho inspired me to use Islander Jax lol

Just so you know, his air special lets him move forward substantially in the air. You can use it to dodge the AOE attacks that the snake ladies throw.

I don’t know why I like Island Jax so much but for some reason I do.

Also in the square combo you can cancel the last hit (which sends them into the air) into the forward forward special. Haven’t checked to see if he can jump cancel any of his normals yet. I know Adam can. So you may get some new stuff from that.

You know what, let me lab that real quick.

I think Floyd is my overall favorite too. He’s a ton of fun to play and he really feels varied

Doesn’t look like he can combo into his jump normals for anything worthwhile.

Adam can do ground string, and when they’re in the stun state, he can do jump forward down square, square to pop them up in the air for a juggle.

ACtually wait a minute, think I may have found something.

O_o Floyd has an air special??? I’m sleepin bruh smh.

Its good for mobility but feels kinda ass for combos. Alright, so it looks like Floyd can do square, square, square, neutral jump down square, and continue his ground string. Which is kinda cool but he has an infinite so it doesn’t necessarily impact much.

you get two ground bounces from Floyd’s air special and he can do a bunch in the air to run away from mobs.

Also don’t forget that you can do neutral square as an anti air against jumping enemies.

So started to play this about a week ago. The fact that you cant grab the shielded police officers is some real buuullsshiiiet. Not even max

This is a pretty agreeable tier list, and my only sadness is that the SoR2 characters aren’t as good as they really should be. Things like Max not doing the damage potential of his SoR2 (backbreak used to drain a boatload of damage, but is laughable here), and his regular grab with the continuous elbow smack not doing the same damage is sad.

However to me, the real deal breaker is SoR2 Axel no longer having fully invincible Grand Upper (which is an absolutely huge nerf for character), so we can’t spam it the way we used too, not to mention the range on it felt better in Vanilla SoR2 on top of it all.

Had the SoR2 characters kept most of their bs, I would argue that at least Axel and Max would’ve made Top-Tier status, yes, Grand Upper in SoR2 was that strong and so many of Maxs bs.

Overall, I’m glad I picked up SoR4 Blaze (My friend chose Axel instantly, so I opted for Blaze, while another picked Cherry), she’s an absolute monster, with excellent versatility.

After playing for a longer period, my only gripe would be that not all characters were given a run, or at least a dash, because I feel like the pace of the game would be so much better had this been implemented.

It really feels like the game wants to move faster, and we just can’t but, other than that, the game has been incredibly fun to play.

My brothers are coming up this weekend to my place, and I’ll be repurchasing SoR4 for the PS4 (I have it on the pc, but I don’t have enough cords to connect to it to make it all work), so we can all hit it up, will be fun.

Edit: Still waiting for a hopeful 4-player co-op online implementation sometime in a future patch.

What I like about this game is the versatility of the characters, and upon further inspection I noticed that some characters do just fine without a dash in order to get around. (Blaze Air Special, Floyd Jumps, etc.)

SoR2 characters do seem weaker, almost outclassed by their 3rd versions in every way. I opted to put SoR2 Axel in C tier, but his remaining attribute is that he has the fastest Grand Upper compared to all the other versions of him (that has to count for something I guess). It’s more interesting to note that SoR3 Axel has invincible specials, which makes him more appealing to SoR4 Axel. I’m not sure why Sega nerfed Max to oblivion, the SoR Remake of Max is Max done right.

Anyway, I have been playing battle mode these last few weeks in online matchmaking. It’s very, very fun especially against skilled players who have a grasp on the mechanics. This is a top 3 game of the year for me, it’s just that good. I could play for hours on and probably won’t get too bored of it. Speaking of battle mode, there definitely needs to be a refined tier list for that specific mode because it’s a whole other animal altogether. Here’s the breakdown:

SoR4 Blaze has the easiest infinite setup
SoR1 Blaze has the best pokes in this mode
Floyd is still a beast, but his movement troubles stand out on some stages
Adam’s combos can be a bit more tricky here against human opponents (especially the skilled ones)
The SoR1 special (cop car) shouldn’t be slept on, it can create some devastating setups
Frame traps, frame traps, frame traps
All versions of Skate can be annoying to fight against if the player remains unpredictable
Same thing with Shiva (annoying because he’s fast)

There’s more, but I don’t want to make this post too lengthy. The game gets a little crazy sometimes, I picked Cherry and fought this dude online:

So apparently a balance patch is in the works…but may not come out at all.

Balance Patch for a brawler? The fuck?

You’d be surprised how many people I know have been going in on the multiplayer versus, haha.

They’re doing stuff like nerfing enemy armor too though

Looks like infinites are going away, dunno how I feel about that. Some of them are pretty silly, but they bring a whole other dimension to the game imo. The tiers will have to be redone when the final patch hits, and who got the most buffs (looks like Axel is the frontrunner).

Cherry getting a dmg buff is pretty interesting. I don’t think she needs it to be frank, but they also are considering faster specials with the character. I think this will push her into S tier once everything is confirmed and legit.

Finally, make Roo DLC damnit.

Please dont patch this. Figuring out broken things to do to the CPU is one of the highlights of games like this.

I’m all for Axel being better but yeah I dunno.

This game has going for it what my favorite beat’em up does: you get to really fuck some things up.

Panzer Bandit let you do juggles that would take enemies off screen. That shit was UUUULLLLL. You could even Rom some mofos. That thing was ridiculous and great.

So if I wanna groundbounce a fool 6 times, or toss them against the walls and regrabbed ad nauseum, just let me have my fun.

Just add extra tools, dont take stuff away.

If they kill Blaze with this patch, I’m going to be super, Super pissed. Also, the game in itself because of things like the infinities are a fun aspect to the game. I’m not a fan of removing or nerfing fun aspects, but improving characters that were limited.

Consider that if Blaze receives nerfs outside of her infinity (which seems like the case), than you buff Axel, buff Cherry, then of course Blaze could and would more than likely fall off. It would be nicer, if they simply nerfed the Blaze infinite but kept her other things intact, and with the buff of the rest of the characters than it would at least even out more correctly.
