I don’t think Floyd has too much of an issue with being surrounded because of the universal invincible special move, his really long range jab and super long range blitz attack, and the fact that he has so many throw options. Jump throw for close clear, far throw to control space, and double grab for AoE around him. Not saying it isn’t an issue but I don’t think it’s a big issue.
He can’t break shields with a combo but he can do it from a safe distance easier than anyone else with Blitz. That attack WAY outranges the shield cop attacks.
sheeeitttttt, I finally played with Axel this past weekend; I actually double-dipped and got the game on XB1 too (there’s friends I can play with on that one). The DAMAGE from Axel’s combos, man… delicious. You can do a few punches, lead into the infamous “GRAB DA PAW!” () but cancel right into that flurry of punches special, cancel into the star special with all the flames…THEN you can catch the victim on their way down with more punches right back into GRAB DA PAW! again (and I guess just repeat all that again?). This is delicious, as Bison would say.
Thank You for this Combo Vid of Blaze, I had to main her since my buddy took Axel. Although I bought the game, I’m still salty that they haven’t implemented a 4-player co-op online. We’ve had to literally use remote play in order to achieve 4-players and it isn’t always correct due to potential lag issues.
Some of the combo videos in this video are pretty tough to do and land consistently as well.
Btw, does anyone have a “Early” theory Tier List yet? I heard SoR4 Adam is pretty much Top-Tier along with SoR3 Shiva (not surprising since I believed he would be, and having played him, dude is legitimately stupid still. Maybe he’s the best in the game?).
However, what bout SoR2 Axel? Or even SoR4 Blaze, whom I believe has some serious potential? SoR2 Max? Thoughts anyone?
I’m not sure about compared to all characters but SOR2 Axel seems like the best Axel easily. Really fast normals while still having the almost zero recovery on Grand Upper.
I think SOR3 Blaze actually has some comparative potential to SOR4 blaze as well. A little worse neutral special but a waaay better fwd special and better weapon options and mobility, but less aerial options.
Max actually has invincibility on both specials which is pretty huge.
Sheeeitttt, SOR4 Axel and Adam already seem like top choices, imo. Suddenly I was having a generally easier time with everything when playing those 2. Axel has that punch->Grand Uppah!->Flurry Punch Special->Star Move>>repeat for absolute nasty damage. I can’t get enough of that.
I also love that they included a wall bounce in this game, which obviously helps feed even more combo shenanigans.
Wall bounce in the fact that you can otg as well, which makes for some stupidly fun setups. However I would find some “combos” and be like I’m awesome but then watch a video and see another individual do the samething, but much better with higher dps output, lmao.
Btw, anyone know how to make it so that Cherrys “head stomp” is controlled to continually stomp on someone, even if they’re not at the corners but in the middle of the screen.
I tried, and I couldn’t get it to work, yet I see combo videos of Cherry to where she’s headstomping 24/7 in the middle of the screen. Just curious as to how you would execute in order to achieve such a thing.
I did it a few times, just not consistently. The timing is very strict because sometimes you end up grabbing instead of head stomping.
If Cherry stomps left, you have to hold down/forward immediately after the stomp.
If Cherry stomps right, you have to hold down/backward immediately after the stomp.
This should position Cherry to do another stomp, I once stomped a dude on the head 4 times. It was pretty funny haha.
On tiers:
Interesting proposal. We need to dive deeper into the mechanics because there are a lot of ToD combo videos out there (but are they practical?). I would have to assume the difficulty is set to Mania, but I am talking things like character specifics. From what I’ve seen, anybody can “throw” fatties, unlike SoR1 and 3. How easily characters dispatch annoying enemies should be a thing:
Galsia with knife, wonky hurtbox
Francis divekick
Halberd Donovan
Police w/Taser weapons
And how much characters are nerfed:
For example: Max nerfs
Headbutt now hits once instead of twice
Blitz attack seems slower. In the original SoR2, the slide was much faster imo
Raw power not as impressive than SoR2, do to the mechanics
Agreed, also maybe it’s just me, since I haven’t touched SoR2 in ages, however it seems like SoR2 Axels Grand Uppers range has been nerfed too.
Now I cannot confirm this, since I don’t have access to SoR2 to test this out, however from what I remember (all those decades ago) the distance travel was much further than on here to where it seems to have almost been cut by half. So, considering that if true, than it would definitely be a nerf.
On Max, yeah, I do feel the nerfs, even his grab and auto-attack to where he’s smacking the opponent with his elbow or whatever only hits a few times where as in SoR2 it would last forever while draining loads of life, flat out killing thugs in one go. Even his back breaker took a hit on here it seems.
Got around to play more of the cast and have the SOR 1 characters unlocked, as well as Max (SOR 2). Going from Axel (and SOR ! Blaze) to Blaze felt like going ST Ryu then SFV Ryu. I prefer range on my normals. Cherry was…interesting. Need more time with her.
Floyd was awesome in that he doesn’t pause or break step when he grabs and opponent, lol. He just keeps moving like nothing happened. Legit got a laugh out of me. Being able to pick up a second character is ace
SOR 1 Blaze was a good time, even though the Genesis treble, was something to get used to again. Strong range like Axel and the her Super was awesome
I need to start using Defensive Moves. I totally forgot about those somehow.
Haven’t tried Adam yet but I’ll do that later today.
I actually missed that suuuuper crunchy set of hit sound effects. I’m not normally that much if a nostalgia person but I really dug the OG sound effects for the SOR1 characters
The voice samples hurt, lol, but the hit effects were always my favorite. I really love Axel’s in this game. It’s just that good.
Played Adam for the first time. Really liking him so far. His dash is awesome (Dash’s are always the best), and THE BOOT for his charge attack. Power Geyser for the star move.
Max is lulz. His back attack is exactly how I’d picture a bodybuilders kick to be. It’s laughably gross, just like Axel’s SOR2 down jump attack.
Summary
The only character left to unlock that won’t be laughable are Zan and Shiva. I’m sure those are the last two.
SOR 4 cast comes down to Axel, Adam, Flynn, for me. I’ll give Cherry some more time, but I don’t see those three being topped for the base roster.
Seeing how SoR1 Blaze was designed to be weaker than SoR1 Axel/Adam, she got significant buffs to her combo series.
I tested the combo series for all of the SoR1 characters against Feroccio/normal (buff looking cop at the beginning of stage 2). Only 2 were able to kill him with a complete series, and that was Blaze and Adam.
EDIT: The funny thing is that SoR1 Axel might have the best “delayed” combo series out of the 3, due to how quick it is and how many you can chain together.
