Streets of Rage 4 Announced!

whoah that’s cool that you can apparently play as the Commissioner… I only did 1 playthru so far so all I have that’s extra is Adam and 16-bit version Axel.

What? You sure?

I’ve tried only two characters so far: Blaze and Axel. Blaze is a beast in this game holy shit.

BREAKDOWN:

Fast, excellent jump attacks, can ground pound off blitz attacks for combo extensions, solid throws, ranged specials, amazing with small weapons, omg. CONS: Poor stamina, can’t take much physical punishment, etc.

Axel

BREAKDOWN:

Still a physical powerhouse. Grand Upper can now be cancelled into special hitting for a shit ton of dmg, improved jumping attacks, will win most one on one’s. CONS: he’s gotten slower in this one, no ranged specials (he has major problems with francis/dylan’s fuuuuuck), Grand Upper no longer has invincibility frames, SoR2 Axel is still king

referring to d3v’s post where he mentioned someone playing as the Commissh. I did not research on what’s unlockable here, so just about all of it will be a surprise to me.

So, do they plan to get 4-player online co-op yet? That’s the only thing refraining me from getting it, and my brothers want to get the game too, however only if they have this in place in the future.

It really still boggles my mind how you have a 4-player game, but not have it accessible to four players online.

Estel got that sexy ass Striga vibe going on lmao

I love this game and the soundtrack (on Apple Music for those who rock the :iphone:), but the remake still tops it in my opinion.

Axel’s jumps are how he gets around and avoids a lot of situations. I haven’t played on Hard or Mania, about to after this post, but that helped me more than anything. Charging in the middle of strings for crowd control was another one.

EDIT: So tried Hardest and Mania. Hardest was a good time and so was Mania. I need a gameplan in Mania but was able to get the end of Level 2 in Hardest with relative ease. Mania I got stomped in Stage 1 by the robot twins.

I’m really digging Mania, and I only imagine it’ll be even more fun once I work Grand Upper into combos. Hardest you need the mechanics down, but in Mania it’s a requirement. At least with Axel.

Blaze I need to become more familiar with her moveset. Played on Hardest and Mania, but the unfamiliarity with her new stuff needs more adjusting from myself.

There’s now a hard limit on hits that’ll cause a knockdown (which is understandable how much hit stun even basic attacks have). I think there’s also some sort of juggle limit, or gravity scaling as well.

Gonna agree with this. Blaze feels really good in this game. I really like how her Hishousouzan special doesn’t whiff on people anymore. Yet, at the same time, it can still high profile over some attacks. I also like how it can combo into itself via OTG On Diva, I remember doing jab, jab, jab, chain, Hishousouzan, Hishousouzan ORG, chain, wallsplat, chain, knockdown – and that was just all on the fly. The stuff I’ve seen on YouTube is even more amazing, including some full screen corner carry TODs for Battle Mode.

Tried Mania with Adam and got stomped by the robot twins as well the first time. Gotta get those pipes outta their hands fast and take advantage of I-frames when they go into telekinesis mode. The commissioner destroys me in stage 2, though. Fuckin’ Barneys smh.

How do you unlock characters?

I agree!!
Even though I was rotating out the main characters, Blaze and Axel stood out as the top, yet I will claim Blaze as my main!!

Her being able to combo with small weapons, just fast move speed and combos, and having Chun’s fireball and MVC ultra!!

…and S+±tier character design!!!

By playing the game. All points accumulated through playing (lifetime score) go towards unlocking characters, starting with SOR 1 Axel, Adam, and Blaze at 200k, 240k, and 300k respectively. Think 1 million unlocks everyone.

Her air special is pretty awesome, especially with how you combo it into itself. It’s basically “free” damage since nothing can interrupt you up there.

EDIT: Has these been posted yet?

This puts my barely above button mashing skills to shame!!

Now that we have a new Streets Of Rage, are you guys going to pick up the game The Takeover when it comes out on console?

I played the game on PC, it’s really fun, but needed some polishing.

At 1:04 - SO EXCITING!

I laughed harder than I should have.

Matt McMuscles actually pitched that game and helped get it made. Did a lot of work with the dev’s and publishers on it too since you know, it’s basically his game. Lol

The models are really ugly imo which makes the gameplay look not as crisp as it is. He actually said it’s coming to switch hella soon. Just couldn’t give an exact release date

Edit: didn’t realize that trailer said it was also coming for switch

I mean, learning stuff like that doesn’t really matter outside of battle mode, as most enemies will drop out before those end. For just going beyond mashing, the basic thing you need to learn is linking jabs, instead of going immediately for the chain. Basically, just tack on 3 or 4 jabs to get extra damage before you do the chain into whatever follow up. That, or use a couple of jabs to set up a throw.

EDIT: We Hokuto no Ken now.

This game reminds me when MvC3 first came out. The OTG system felt weird, but we picked up on it quickly and then wall bounces became a thing. SoR4 system is so refined you can discover combos and setups accidentally lol.

For the other three characters, I wanted to share my experiences:

Adam

BREAKDOWN: Adam is the real deal. When we talk about the combination of power and speed, look no further than this dude. Here’s the rundown: powerful chains, great blitz attacks, can plink dash(?), and he’s a beast with weapons. Most of his combo extensions come from wall bounces, but sometimes they can be tricky to pull off. Since that’s the case, he can only optimize his damage under unique circumstances. He doesn’t really have many flaws, top tier without a doubt.

Cherry

BREAKDOWN: Obviously, her mobility is her biggest strength. She has interesting setups that are pretty damaging. She doesn’t have a “true” throw and I don’t know if that hinders her too much because she still gets good damage of grapples. One thing I liked about Skate is the option to throw in any direction. They both have similar blitz moves, and her guitar can be used as an OTG/combo finisher! However, I think that’s the issue with this character. Her maximum dmg potential relies heavily on the guitar special because of it’s range and finishing properties. Since she has poor stamina, she can lose a ton of health in a matter of seconds if you aren’t careful. That’s why it’s best to use her mobility and keep the enemies guessing. In co-op, she can be very top tier and difficult to hit. Outside of that though, I am not sure how many people are going to main her.

Floyd

BREAKDOWN: Slow, sluggish, he‘s like a hybrid of Max and Zan. Oddly enough, he jumps faster than he walks. Ranged specials are nice, but I feel like he gets surrounded way too easily. His combo series is not fast enough to break police shields. His high stamina doesn’t matter if he’s constantly getting punched in the face. He’s too advanced for the casual player looking to speedrun the game imo.
