Problems with fighters on handheld systems, is the framerate, the small size of the screen(which makes it harder to judge distancing and timing), as well as third party programming houses doing the conversions which means dubious relation in game mechanics to the orignal.
and what AMERICAN ps2 fighter ports have online options?
Moot points all-around. You obviously never played any of the NGPC fighters, any of the GBA KOFs(hey they play just fine), and Darkstalkers on the PSP. With the exception of the PSP controls for Darstalkers, they all play fine.
Those not willing to chage up their game a bit for slightly different handheld conversions only have themselves to blame, and not the companies. Lets face it, outside of a few titles, those games aren’t supposed to be like their arcade/console brethen.
People here will probably hate me for saying this but I could careless. I think the GBA version of SFII:Turbo is the best version of the game availiable overall and feels the most solid. The only thing missing in it are two more buttons and an optional arcade stick.
This game could be considered milking because Capcom is basically porting the GBA version of Alpha 3, touching up the graphics probably, promoting wireless play, adding a new character and releasing it on the PSP.
The problem here is the fact that while Capcom obviously recognizes there is an audience for this sort of game, they are content to minorly rework their previous efforts and sell them rather than actually making a new game. I mean it wouldn’t be so bad if they actually tried putting effort into it, but this game and CFJ seem more like attempts to ‘milk’ the fans of the SF series.
Maybe if they rereleased a better version of another fighter that didn’t get a lot of publicity the first go around like they did with Darkstalkers, it wouldn’t be so bad. But this smells only of greed and unwillingness (even if it is understandable in today’s gaming market) to try to actually cater to a set of consumers you know exist.
^ But it’s Capcom of Japan doing the game, not Crayfish, and that doesn’t look anything like the GBA game. =x
Man, Ingrid looks fucked up. Looks like they attempted to emulate the A3 art style for her portrait, and it really went wrong somewhere.
So true. She looks like E.T. and totally out of place
i might cop just becasue i like the game
They need to leave this retard offspring (with it’s tiny-ass sprites, sorry stages, and pathetic music) of the alpha series alone and port the GOOD one: Alpha 2. Just call it SF Alpha 2 Turbo and add Cammy, T Hawk, Dee Jay, and Fei long from Upper, and a few capcom characters from cvs2, and cfe. Can’t lose. Big-ass sprites, MUCH better artwork, beautiful stages, large cast. Victoly!
sounds sweet, and since it will have all the glitches removed and overall be a much better game, almost all of the people will find ways to bitch about it instead of deal with it.
Thankfully people are bitching about the handheld problems so we dont have to deal with bitching about the lack of CCing. Maybe in a few months they will also have a PS2 port of the Alpha series, maybe we can hope for having A1-3 and all their incarnations ported correctly so people can just STFU.
I heard GBA sfa3 wasnt too hard to use, and you had to like, use fucking a/l/a+l for buttons…
The PSP’s Dpad is HORRIBLE. It’s too far in and stiff. Although you can adjust to it, I’ve actually had problems of randomly going from crouching to standing guard although I can actually jump diagonally now. It’s like a 2 button pressing pain where you have to hold it down fairly firm, it becomes a pain.
Besides the controls I can’t say the good doesn’t look awesome, and Ingrid is a nice extra. I know the team that made the GBA one isn’t making this one (as a matter of fact wasn’t that their last game?), but I hope I see some Eagle in it at least out of the GBA exclusive characters.
You get used to it very quickly. The problem is this made some things near impossible to do. If you could still do those things, I would actually still prefer the controls if I had to have that PSP Dpad. Yuck.
GREAT! And she does look like ET. LOL!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Holy Shnike, she does.
How do you adjust it - is there any kind of modification for it?
Have more infos on how to make it “better” ?
Thanks in advance
This is milking right… but I’m trying to the of the handful of games I’d actually want on my PSP…
And SFA3 would definately be up there. So I can either get this or wait till an emu for cps2 works on psp2.0. Thats coming so maybe I wont bother with Upper Upper actually :S
I sort of understand why some of you are bitching that it’s merely a port of an existing game, but just because it’s old desn’t mean it sucks, getting a port of an existing SF game on a platform is better than none at all. Just because you may not like A3 doesn’t mean noone else will. I have A3 on every platform it’s ever been released on not because Capcom tells me to, but because it’s my favorite 2D fighter of all time. Many people feel that A3 is one of the best 2D fighters there is. Capcom is porting the game for those fans.
As a SF fan, I am jumping for joy that my fave SF game is coming out on the PSP. I don’t get why some of you are bitching. Yeah, so it’s A3, yeah it’s been around a while, but it’s SF, Capcom is giving to us, and you guys are complaining…
And I bet that if Capcom did nothing for the PSP as far as 2D fighters go, you’d be bitching that they’re not doing anything to keep 2D fighters alive.
So go on and bitch if you want to, I will import this asap, and be enjoying it.
Play on it for hours until you unconsiously deal with the crap and play correctly? HAHAHA!
Really, I still haven’t adjusted to it, and I don’t even have a PSP though. The width of it and the D-pad combined also screw up my thumb and wrist by the way. The DS does slightly too while playing SFA3, but of course that doesn’t have the six button option either so I’m forced to stay at the bottom buttons and click wierd buttons together in collaboration with qcf, qcf. You can hold the buttons, but again, this really messes up a few things.
If there were 6 button for the DS and it didn’t have as good of quality I might choose that over the more powerful PSP’s just because it hurts my hand so. (with a ten dollar reduction over the PSP’s of course)
