I’d like to think Joey would go down the practical effects route still then fill in the really extreme moves with CGI. When we get to see our fist fight with a wall jump it will be epic.
The Udon comics is canon? I bought SF Origins Akuma and I have the main series. It does contradict itself. For instance, Ryu vs Sagat does happen. But not during Alpha. You can’t even tell when it happens. In the first issue, Ryu is training near a waterfall and goes to meditate in a forest and has a mental battle with Evil Ryu. That’s when Gouken is killed. Ken is in San Francisco at that time. The first time you see AKuma fight Gouken, is when Ryu is a kid. No beads, no gloves, gi top around his waist, and with his hair down. Udon contradicts that with SF Origins Akuma showing that fight happening at Akuma’s place with Akuma sporting his SFIV look without the beads. As we know both Gouki and Gouken trained under Goutetsu. How can the Udon comics be canon when SF Origins Akuma plays it out like this:
Spoiler
Gouki and Gouken are with their father and mother in the middle of nowhere. Gouki’s father trained under Goutetsu and quit being an assassin. Ryu’s FATHER seeks revenge on Gouki’s father for killing his father. Gouki’s father is killed in battle. Gouki and Gouken go into hiding with their mother who falls ill. Gouki leaves and gets into a fight with a bear. This is when Goutetsu finds him. Goutetsu trains Gouki from childhood to adulthood. NO GOUKEN IN SIGHT. When Gouki leaves to go to Tokyo, then adult Gouken meets Goutetsu after Gouki is gone. When Gouki returns, Retsu sends him on some quest of mental enlightenment. Same with Gouken. After this test, Retsu shows where the man that killed their father is. Gouki decided to kill him after awakening to the SNH while Gouken refuses. After Gouki kills Ryu’s father for revenge and destroys the village, Gouken goes down there and finds Ryu. One of the biggest WTF happened moments in Origins is how Gouki kills Goutetsu. He doesn’t use the SGS, he used that shit Ultra II from SFIV. Another is that the masters only train TWO students at a time. I’m looking at SF Origins right now Goutetsu has SEVEN students training with him post Gouki and Gouken.
IIRC in the comics, Ken loses his headband fighting Ryu who cut his hair with a tatsu. Anything relating to SF Alpha has Ken and Ryu sporting their SFII look with Chun Li sporting her Alpha look. A lot of the Udon comics seems to follow the canon correctly but a good amount is skipped over. They either skipped Alpha or redid it their own way.
Ryu doesnt fight Sagat in alpha he fights him in SF1, Udon jumps around chronologically but read through the main series ie SF>SF2>SF4 you will see the proper gouken akuma battle, which yea I believe actually does happen when Ryu is facing off his inner demon ill double check that.
The series goes from training SF1 > the random events of alpha > SF2 > SF 4 > SF 3
Ken and Ryu should still be training under Gouken during alpha right? (long hair and white head band)
Since Sagat already has his scar in alpha, the Ryu and Sagat fight and SFI should technically happen before they even left the Dojo (which I assume is end of alpha).
All you’d need is to get someone that physically is large enough to play blanka and can before his normals, then all special rolls would be done using a mix of CGI and stunt work.
Doing completely CGI is expensive and time consuming.
Watched the Animated Movie recently and I gotta say…I hope if they get around to doing E. Honda he’s as crazy in this as he is in the Animated Movie. Dudes hilarious.
I have the entire series. Udon does mess it up a bit but a lot of it is accurate. I have the hardcover that covers the beginning of SF3. It’s torture waiting for volume 2. What I like about the SFIV series is that it’s Gouki’s SGS that makes Seth self aware and superior to the clones.
Originally the SGS is stated to be an attack that hits the soul or something. Hence how Gen and Gouken can counter it. In the SFIV comic Gouki states after using on Seth “It’s an attack that fells anyone with a soul. Looks like I picked a tinman without any soul.” Seth then gets angry and goes offline/shuts down. Gouki walks off. When he wakes back up, he realized that he’s changed and from then on calls himself Seth. So I guess without a soul, SGS has a reverse effect.
How is it that Gouken has an imported, left hand drive Ford F150 in Japan (not to mention Ken’s dad driving an American muscle car in 1979 in Japan as well)?
Yeah this is why I don’t believe AF will be fully canon. I’ll accept it as just another retelling of the story. Unless they decide to keep AF’s story as canon.
That dude forgot to mention that Akuma tried a psychic DP and got punished hard for it upon landing.
