lol, you clearly underestimate the amount of work that goes into animation. It’s just as much if not more work in putting together a presentable animation project.
The beauty of live action is you don’t have to draw anything frame by frame and if you manage to do it right, the work becomes grounded in reality and feels a lot more authentic.
Plus these dudes are have a history of martial arts and being stuntmen, so it’d be a waste to not to make use of all their talent and specialty. I doubt a 2D animation would’ve been as amazing as this was, the very fact that this was an accurate and respectful live action adaption is mind-blowing in itself. The only other SF live action that I know of that manages to portray the franchise just as well would be the Balrog mockumentary by ChubbyBoyFIlms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8u-MYyRERk

To be able to get people who care as much about the franchise as both the Assasins Fist and Balrog teams really is a blessing and whatever medium they decide to make use of I’m all for it. When people get a chance to work on their passion projects in full force like so, only good things can come from it.

A animated series would allow them to go crazy with the KI stuff though and capture the authentic look of the characters. The SF2 animated movie did a good job and plus it’s cheaper to animate.

That’s not necessarily true, Animation is really expensive depending on how nice you want to make it look. Also they don’t need to go crazy with the Ki SF’s not really about crazy Ki shit (Least not till SF4 with auras out the ass an shit.) The point in the story they are at doesn’t involve crazy ki shit anyway. They pulled off the Ki shit they needed to just fine.

Besides I already gave you two reasons why they wouldn’t want to animate it, and one reason right from one of the collaborators mouths for why they didn’t.

THEORY 1
I think the scroll explains how to either survive a raging demon or how to bring people back to life.
We witnessed Gouken bring Ryu and Ken back life (or maybe just consciousness).
I say these things because we know that Gouken is alive in SF4. So he either survived the Raging Demon or someone brought him back to life…like Ryu…?

THEORY 2
The old Monk and the crazy fisherman are the same person. Kind of reminds me of those old kung fu movies where the fool turns out to be the master after all.
Actually, makes me wonder if it’s Goutetsu…like somehow he also survived the Raging Demon / came back to life, having read the scroll in my first theory…

I don’t know. But I’m glad they added a layer of mystery. And Street Fighter is all about secret characters!

I just realised something:

My theory is the Goutetsu survived or was brought back to life after the Raging Demon (probably by Gouken).
This means they will be able to say the same for Gouken when he gets killed, since he is alive in SF4.

I’m guessing that they use the knowledge that is in the scroll that Goutetsu gives to Gouken. The knowledge is probably how to bring people back to life (or use Ki to survive / regenerate).

We saw Gouken bring Ken and Ryu back to life.

Anyway, just a thought.

If Goma is the same monk who brought Ryu to Gouken then clearly the comedy is an act. The monk appeared to have powers.

it def has to be more than a few lessons. he did learn the basics to hadou…ryu and ken it took like 10 years to get to that point. he was a true student, but his intentions were probably not revealed til much later. (just going by this version of the history).
