Street Fighter World Warrior | Resurrection | Assassin's Fist Thread

That was seriously good.

I will absolutely pick up the Blu ray when it is released and I hope for a season 2.

Edit: If the budget really was only 3 million then they did freaking GREAT work with limited resources. I really hope they can do another one and get a larger budget.

ALL HAIL LORD GOUTETSU

The show is pretty great.
I’m of the opinion that most specials and supers will never look great on live action, but the result here was pretty decent
My only complain would be [details=Spoiler]the fact that the story builds to a climax that simply doesn’t happen so it ends rather weakly.

Also silly Gotetsu, trying to Raw Ultra a Akuma.[/details]

I watched the vids all the way thru twice, joey did an awesome job of staying true to the storyline and I really liked the background insight shown during training years for gouken and gouki and of course ryu and ken.

For doing a fantastic job I hope joey is given a bigger budget for season 2 (if there is one), with just 3 million dollars you would think the budget was much bigger from how good the acting and visuals looked.

Watching through this now. Upto episodes 4 then BAM

[details=Spoiler]OMFG ONO!! BWAHAHHAHAHA

I swear this dude is like the real life Dan. Always brings a damn grin to my face[/details]

They fucked up with gouken’s hadokuen…since when does he use 2 hands?

Just now watched all 13 episodes (well technically 12 since 00 was a small prologue or intro of sorts) and I have to say:

HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!! O_O

I gotta give props to the cast and crew for the fantastic job that they have done. An incredible tribute to the street fighter series IMO!

I hope we get a season 2!

Just finished it. Gotetsu was so badass, both character and actor. After reading an interview I’m even more amazed that Togo Igawa could pull everything off so convincingly despite not being well versed in martial arts. The series definitely lived up to the hype surrounding it.

A couple of things that irked me was

Spoiler

the headband being given to Ryu before the events of Alpha 2 as well as Goutetsu suddenly speaking English after his last spar with Gouken, which seemed a little out of context.

but they were really small details that really didn’t matter.

Netflix!

So many great moments in this. I’ll also chime in that the ending was rather tame and a little more calm than anticipated.

Spoiler

Was really expecting the Gouken/Gouki confrontation which never came. But I guess there’s always the future for that, if it does end up going through. The way it ended works out is perfectly fine too.

Seriously loved seeing Ken’s dad training with the boys and teaching them boxing. I guess that’s where the bounce in their fighting stance comes from.

That was early days Gouken. The Gouken we know in SF4 is the new improved, buffed up back from the dead/hiding Gouken.

I absolutely loved it. I hope this does great things for the Street Fighter franchise and they make a Season 2.

Big thanks and congrats to Joey Ansah and Christian Howard.

I do have some questions and some theories though…

Spoiler

Who are Ryu’s parents?

What was the special scroll the Goutetsu gave Gouken?

Who was the old monk that left Ryu on Gouken’s doorstep?

Who is the crazy old fisherman who gives Ken sh*t all the time?

Where does Sayaka go?

Was that Guile they bumped into when they entered the bar?

Why was Dan’s name on the wall of Ansatsuken Masters? Isn’t he too young?

I have some theories…sort of.

THEORY 1
I think the scroll explains how to either survive a raging demon or how to bring people back to life.
We witnessed Gouken bring Ryu and Ken back life (or maybe just consciousness).
I say these things because we know that Gouken is alive in SF4. So he either survived the Raging Demon or someone brought him back to life…like Ryu…?

THEORY 2
The old Monk and the crazy fisherman are the same person. Kind of reminds me of those old kung fu movies where the fool turns out to be the master after all.
Actually, makes me wonder if it’s Goutetsu…like somehow he also survived the Raging Demon / came back to life, having read the scroll in my first theory…

I don’t know. But I’m glad they added a layer of mystery. And Street Fighter is all about secret characters!

Not to mention he’s training them so he’s going to show them the proper way to do it, which is with both hands.

Edit: Dans actually a pretty old guy…He’s like in his 30’s or something in the Alpha series.

Loved how they managed to get that Dan shout out in there, bwahaha.

I’ll have a go at answering these.

Spoiler

Who are Ryu’s parents?
Never elaborated upon. One guess is as good as any.

What was the special scroll the Goutetsu gave Gouken?
Could be what you thought it was. Or it could just be a symbolic gesture as Goutetsu passing on the mantle and knowledge of everything Anasatsuken down to Gouken.

Who was the old monk that left Ryu on Gouken’s doorstep?
Who is the crazy old fisherman who gives Ken sh*t all the time?
The same person. Comic relief character that they created specifically for the series, Goma

Where does Sayaka go?
To birth to Ryu Somewhere lol

Was that Guile they bumped into when they entered the bar?
No Guile. Only Ono.

Why was Dan’s name on the wall of Ansatsuken Masters? Isn’t he too young?
I think that wall was just the name of practitioners? Dan briefly trained under the tutelage of Gouken before getting kicked out. From this it must’ve been before the time of Ken/Ryu.

You know, as much as I enjoyed this, it’s pretty fucked up when you learn why Gouki and Gouken are fated to fight. Goutetsu is a badass old man but damn, it’s crazy that he knew what would eventually happen. Gotta respect Gouken since he did spared Ken and Ryu the same fate.

Also the Shoryuken actually has invincibility frames. GGPO.

You know I wonder if they would have been better off with a animated series. They clearly have a great understanding of the tone and mythos so why not just go with 12 minute animated shorts…you could avoid all the expenses of CGI and makeup and hire great voice actors.

Because they wanted to do it live action. Besides it’s already been done animated, they wanted to see something they could relate to, them being martial artists/stuntment for film. The medium speaks to the creators because it’s their medium. Animation is not.

Besides this was pretty much answered in the interviews when Christian Howard said he and Joey went to see Legend of Chun Li and where highly disappointed and concluded they could do better.

My guess is, once Sayaka leaves Gouken at the Dojo, she finds Gouki and gets raped by a big satsui no hado tentacle and gets pregnant with Ryu(think Berserk when Griffith rapes Casca).

Or you know, it could be perfectly normal in that she realizes she’s pregnant with Gouken’s baby after she leaves, and when she has the baby, she drops Ryu off at the dojo and during that time Gouken hasn’t returned yet. She could have possibly died from giving birth too.

^ I didn’t mean anything serious when I blurted out the Sayaka Ryu connection btw lol

[details=Spoiler]But what you say can and does make some sense. I.E The reasoning why she left seems like she didn’t want to hold him back and being pregnant with Ryu would’ve gave Gouken more reason to mope around the dojo, putting off his journey.

Or it could be that she just tired of Gouken’s bullshit and ran off for greener fields lol Fuck yo drunk ass, imma go find a better sugar daddy [/details]

lol, you clearly underestimate the amount of work that goes into animation. It’s just as much if not more work in putting together a presentable animation project.
The beauty of live action is you don’t have to draw anything frame by frame and if you manage to do it right, the work becomes grounded in reality and feels a lot more authentic.
Plus these dudes are have a history of martial arts and being stuntmen, so it’d be a waste to not to make use of all their talent and specialty. I doubt a 2D animation would’ve been as amazing as this was, the very fact that this was an accurate and respectful live action adaption is mind-blowing in itself. The only other SF live action that I know of that manages to portray the franchise just as well would be the Balrog mockumentary by ChubbyBoyFIlms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8u-MYyRERk

To be able to get people who care as much about the franchise as both the Assasins Fist and Balrog teams really is a blessing and whatever medium they decide to make use of I’m all for it. When people get a chance to work on their passion projects in full force like so, only good things can come from it.

i never saw generations but they took the sayaka and akuma storyline from there but left it up to you to decide if ryu was their child. apparently generations heavily/basically said he was. this left for you to decide.
