Street Fighter rights sold to Capcom USA

How do you figure it’s their fault? They have no idea what’s going to happen after they make the game. They can’t predict the future. All they can do is go by how the market responds.

To make money, like any other business. They don’t owe anyone anything, despite what you, me, or anyone else may think. If you believe otherwise, you are out of your mind.

All speculation. First of all, what makes you think that if you buy it, they’ll do the same thing over and over again, and second, how will they know people care about their games if no one buys them?

Really? In what sense? Do the tournament winners donate their winnings to Capcom? If they do, how come nobody has heard of this, so unless they’re sponsored by them, I don’t see how they make money from them. As for why ST was re-relased, there could be a lot of reasons for why they did that, but I highly doubt they did that because they saw people play it in tournaments and speaking of tournaments, tournaments and loke tests are two different things; one has game developer sponsorship, one doesn’t.

^All valid points that I agree with D-force. I think the best thing to do is to give CapcomUSA a chance, I don’t think it would hurt anyone.

Yes, and going by those reponses is something they have not done as well as they could have, because then SF would not be in the state that it’s in. If they want our money, they’ve gotta start communicating with people so they figure out how to correct their problems and not avoid them.

I thought it was clear that making products that satisfy people is the only way you can make money? Why would you not put more effort into something to ensure that it does, and on a much grander scale? There’s no sense not to.

First, because they ARE doing the same thing over and over. They had three years to come up with something different after CvS2, and we’re left only with CFJ. They have absolutely no incentive to move on. Well, not by themselves at least, now that Capcom USA’s involved.

Second, some people do continue to buy their games. Capcom knows they care, but they also have this crazy notion that they don’t care if they do keep doing the same thing over and over, which they are. That might change now that more people are finally starting to shit all over them for it, but then again, maybe Capcom will refuse to hold themselves responsible like they always do.

Does Capcom not acknowledge tournaments, or the people who attend them? Do arcade units not generate the same income on both a casual and tournament setting? People have been playing ST for 10 fucking years. Playing on and on IS donating money, little by little. And nobody else but tournament players do with a game that old. What other audience could they possibly target with AE/SF Collection? Not the casual market, because as we all know, people back then got sick of SF2 after four revisions and badly wanted them to move on to 3.

No need to go on with the differences between a loke test and a tournament. What matters is that the more focus they put on gameplay (ie. attending loke tests), the more people can get into a game, host tournaments and break it down, all the while feeding them money.

I will, now that I’ve read sano’s answer to this.
This argument’s just going in circles anyway, so I’ll stop here.

what will happen to Sammy vs Capcom? i smell SF vs MK! :xray:

First off, Funamizu and Okomoto headed FFR and it still sucked so having a good producer won’t result in a good game if the team sucks. But Capcom USA can’t even hire Funamizu or Okamoto because those two already got so fed up with Capcom that they left the company (Okamoto’s Genji looks awesome btw).

As far as fighting game producers go there’s only Ono left… and I do like Ono (hell, I love the guy… the UK PC version of Chaos Legion is the best action game ever) but Ono is not good for fighting games. AFAIK the only fighting game he’s produced is CFE and it was a ridiculous concept from the start.

So what else could Capcom USA get from Capcom Japan? Capcom sold the rights to USA most likely because the Japan side has given up on the series. They’re not going to send over the artists who worked on DMC or anything. If they were willing to give Capcom USA anything significant they would just develop the game in Japan instead.

So don’t expect any good help from Capcom Japan on this. If Capcom USA makes anything it will be with their own resources. Who knows what Capcom USA team is like at the moment, but based on their past efforts of genesis punisher, sf movie, ffr, maximo, and the sfz gba game… I’m not optimistic.

If some US fans are unhappy about this, just imagine how the Japanese Street Fighter fans are feeling.

And while on the topic of DeeJay, has anybody else noticed that he’s almost a carbon copy of one of the bad guys in SNK’s fighting game, ‘StreetSmart’?

cause Dee Jay is the original man nucca, stop hating

Lol I give I give. I wasn’t hating on Dee Jay, he’s one of my faves. I’m just saying that CapJap seems to subliminally hate on him.

Thanks to this move, I predict a crappy new animated/live action tv series, the artist for snes SF2 and Hyper Fighting getting more work for US SF artbooks, and a live-action SF movie for EVERY game in the series…with Van Damme as the star.

SF is dead. I rather them not make SF4 and ruin the franchise. Ill be happy with SF3 for the rest of my life.

shoryukenH2 - The point is that Capcom USA has yet to make a game without Capcom of Japan or Japanese involved.

Now that I think about it Street Fihgter 4 probably won’t ever see the light of day. The IP rights were probably just sold for the comic and those figures, after they have had their run (one year max) I predict Street Fighter products will never be seen again.

You know, talented fighters DO exist outside of Japan and China.

Anyways, I’m also interested in seeing what his original design looked like, too.

To Everyone

I asked it to Capcom USA here

So CFJ was made by Capcom USA? :xeye:

“Capcom USA” is a user, not a mod. I don’t think he actually works for Capcom.

Sort of new here, but going to throw my 2 cents in…

  1. Personally, for art and story, I think Udon should get to help in the tasks. Not to speak for them, but I think they might be up to the task.

  2. I’d like to see a new SF made, even by Capcom USA, as long as they don’t farm it out to, say, Atomic Planet, who couldn’t even replicate a two-button control scheme correctly, among other things.

  3. Capcom USA were the ones behind SFAC, right? I thought it was lackluster. I loved getting to play Street Fighter 3 again, though storywise, I wish 2nd Impact had been there as well. As for SF2… I think it was a ton of work for nothing, personally. No one I know seems to care that you can play as original Ryu against SSF2T Ryu. And there was no SF1, as well. So it felt incomplete to me. SF1 may not be the greatest game, but that’s where the whole series started from, dammit.

Bonuses were lacking as well. There was the SF2 anime movie and… that was it, wasn’t it?

I think Mega Man Anniversary Collection came out like crap, particularly as a celebration of the 15th anniversary of the franchise, and I think SFAC came out just a bit worse.

Mind, I love Street Fighter. My case is that I think it deserved better.

Anyway, I’m willing to give Capcom USA a chance here… they gradually seem to be coming around to the notion that many of us fanboy types are the ones oiling their wheels here, as we tend to stick with the franchises we love, despite what so many others may say. I’ve had a lot of beef with them in the past for what can only be described as laziness, if not flat-out incompetence, but lately I’ve been seeing gradual improvement.

LBD “Nytetrayn”

Uhh, I haven’t read the whole thread, but you can’t sell rights within a company. In other words, Konami Japan, the makers of Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIdx, and the like, can’t SELL the rights or turn over the rights of those games over to Konami Usa, as those aren’t individual companys, they arent even a conglomerate, so check your source.

Well, it happened, and we can’t do anything about it. Let’s hope that they make a new Street Fighter game or something like that (CFE doesn’t count)and get some REALLY good artists to make the sprites.

Another thing. Capcom USA might be able to help the franchise by actually advertising the damn thing. If they want people to play their games, they are gonna have to say something about it. Why do you think Mortal Kombat is so popular? Aside from the fatalities, Midway advertised the crap like there was no tomorrow. Even SNK Playmore is beginning to tell the US about their games since they are much more accesable now, and how do you think Tekken got so popular? The advertising can make Capcom USA rich and actually willing to make GOOD games.

Of course, none of you give a damn about the advertising because you are all “hardcore”, but they should still add top-notch gameplay. Even if SF4 ends up being SF3 with new characters, I’ll play the game because SF3 is so good. Innovation is also a good thing, though, and it’s something that 2D fighters are lacking now and days (aside from GGI’s 4-player matchups). It almost seems that 2D fighters are dead, not just SF (even though they are much more fun than 3D fighters), and aside from the new SNK and Sammy games, we have nothing else. Let’s just hope that Capcom USA delivers.

BTW, aside from good gameplay and strong adverting, PLEASE modernize your games. Nobody wants to see 10-year old sprites in a 2004-05 fighting game. Gosh.

So basically, we have on one side, Capcom Japan, who lost all the good peeps’, who recently came out with Capcom Fighting Jam. Heck, if their going to make another fighting game similar to CFJ, im going to barf.

On the other hand, we have Capcom USA, who made SF the movie, etc… No explination needed for this?

It’s dead both ways, but I’d rather have CapJap make a SF4. CFJ > Movie anyday.

Ahh well, looks like we’ll have to revert to SNK or Sammy… Gee, tough choice. King of Fighters vs Guilty Gear: Isuka… GOGOGOGO!

Looks like 2d fighters are dead.

QUICK REVIEW ON COMPANIES:

Capcom: From SF2, CVS2, MVC2, SF3, to CFJ? SF Rights moving onto Cap USA? Dead

SNK: King of Fight… wait a moment…

Sammy: GGXX to GG:Isuka? Gee
