Street Fighter rights sold to Capcom USA

That’s good, because it doesn’t have shit to do with this thread.

And whose fault is that? If no one gives their other games a shot when they DO try something different, can you blame them for sticking with something that works?

Bottom line, this works both ways. It’s not their sole responsibility to make something worthwhile. In order for THEM to give a fuck about US, WE have to show that we give a fuck about THEM and by that, I don’t mean host tournaments and discuss the game in forums until you turn blue in the face since Capcom doesn’t profit from neither of those things. You want better quality games? Play/buy the ones that are out now. Just as people here say they have no excuse for making games like CFE, the people have no excuse for not buying/playing them.

I understand your concerns believe me I do, however I do not think it is wise to dictate to everyone exactly what’s going to become of the Street Fighter franchise just yet, especially with the level of confidence that you have in saying it. Let’s wait a while and see, Capcom USA might be more in tune with the genre than you think, so let’s give them a chance. Even if it does fail, Street Fighter will live on…because after all SFII:ST and SFIII:3s are STILL popular today and will be popular for a long while amongst it’s fans, so the competitive heart in you will always find a place.

Well the thing is, even if people wanted to form a party of players to force a ban on Roll Cancelling, I doubt it would happen, not to mention the people who would want it would be called scrubs for not accepting and adapting to something which is as of right now considered completely legal in tournament play and otherwise. I guess if anyone really wanted Roll Cancelling to be banned, then it would simply come down to a group of people getting together and making a perfectly good case as to why the game is far more balanced without it, and in a detailed way explain why it’s a highly broken tactic, otherwise I don’t see Roll Cancelling being banned anytime soon. Anyways, I just realized how completely unrelated this is to the topic so I apologize, but it was a comment that I personally wished to reply to so if you do not feel it applis to your focus in regards to the thread topic please disregard it.

Japanese 101, bitches! =D

First time i post in this forum, but can anyone explain the importance of cUSA inventing dee jay?

^Nothing other then the fact that Dee Jay rules.

Actually I have always found DeeJay to be one of the least inspired character designs in SF (even before I knew he was done by CapUS). The “maximum” written on his pants is kind of lame. The way his in game mouth looks is pretty bad. His fireball looks crappy and his character design in the character matchup scene sticks out like a sore thumb. He’s got sweat, pulsating, veiny muscles which is unlike all the other characters and is reminiscent of American comic book stuff where most everyone has crazy, sweaty bulging muscles.

I do have to say though I like his super in SSF2X.

That being said I completely support CapUS in all these rights or whatever they have just acquired. And even though I dont like DeeJay, I think they’ll do a good job on catering to SF fans.

Who are you talking to about that? I mean I barely play SF games unless you wanna consider MvC2 a SF game.

Daywalker

The fault is theirs. I know that’s not the answer you wanted to hear, but it’s true. If something’s different and nobody likes it, there has to be something wrong with the game. What’s more pathetic is that for Capcom, there’s only black and white, with no grey areas inbetween. If a new game doesn’t do well, such as SF3, they’ll just flat-out assume nobody appreciates their work anymore (or what’s different doesn’t work) instead of capitalizing on their mistakes so that their newer games DO become appreciated. People don’t care, and Capcom still doesn’t understand why because they don’t want to investigate beyond looking at sales figures, not even listen to fans. So their solution is to put out rehash after rehash until the genre’s depleted of all interest, which further adds to their belief that, again, nobody appreciates their work. And now this shit with Capcom USA? That hardly makes sense, seeing as how their communication with them sucks, and CapUSA themselves have got their heads so far up their asses that they have to make excuses and lie to their consumers.

Are you kidding? If it’s not their responsibility, what the hell are they doing in the business?!

I’m more than willing to try each new game as they come, but that doesn’t mean I have to buy them and make them feel loved, ESPECIALLY if it makes them feel like it’s okay not to do anything new and CORRECT their mistakes instead of avoiding them. Fortunately for them, I’m not going to stop at CFJ. That game at least has some parts to it that I’d really like to explore (Warzard, new matchups, etc.).

And I don’t know about you, but hosting tournaments IS profitable to them. Why do you think they’ve re-released ST so many times? AE’s like a banner for that. Plus, everyone knows CFJ was made for the hardcore. If attending the Japanese beta and loke tests isn’t indicative of that, I don’t know what is because it certainly hasn’t got as good of feedback as CvS2 so far.

A few points. I apologize if some of these have been made already but it’s hard for me to sift through and read all the hate.

Capcom USA made Maximo 1 & 2 after Final Fight Revenge. Both Maximo Games sold well here and in Japan. FFR was their first Game and they learned a lot of their mistakes from it. Judging what they will do based on FFR is ludicrous. Do you base what Capcom will do based on Commando 1 or hell, Street Fighter 1?

Second, who says Japan is out of the equation 100%? Akiman provided character designs for FFR. All of the Maximo Art was provided by the Japanese guy who does the covers of a Japanese Video Game Magazine. They can hire anybody, even the Executive Producer of CFJ who worked under Funamizu since FFR was Executive produced by Funamizu and Okamoto (You can tell how much they cared by not stopping this fiasco, but I think something with the title of SF4 will recieve lots of attention on both sides of Capcom IMHO.) All that would change is who signs their checks, Capcom USA or Japan.

The deal with Dee Jay is that though not everyone likes him, his creation was a better idea than doing 2 of Fei Long which would have diminished his appeal. It also showed that long ago, Capcom USA and Japan had a seemingly decent relationship.

Dee Jay’s sprite has a monkey mouth. They also fucked him up in the Street Fighter II Movie(the one in HSF2:AE). His sprite overall is just wierd looking. “Max Out”? How can Dee Jay have the competence and concentration needed to manifest his ki in projectile form? Who could he have possibly learned it from in Jamaica?

There’s a larger issue behind that one.

Deejay is the first time CapJapan let CapUSA completely design a new character. That’s kind of huge, if you think about it.

The original US design wasn’t as, ah, “ethnic” as the Kool-Aid smile step n’ fetchit that he became though. Thanks CapJapan. Fuck you very much.

N

Maybe Capcom Japan sold the rights to Capcom USA because they wanted the next street fighter to be 3d but hacked up with spyware and hacks but Capcom Japan didn’t want anyting to do with it so they sold the rights.

Got a pic of Goddard’s OG Deejay before the CoJ change to smiling jack?

judgemental bastard

The word MAXIMUM was used because it was the only word long enough to fit the side of his pants that would still look the same if you flipped it backwards…so DeeJay doesn’t suffer from the Sagat eyepatch syndrome.

I think DeeJay is one of the more colorful characters in the SF series simply because of his cool laid back groove appeal…you know that fucker smokes weed too

Now THIS has actually gotten me to reconsider my view. Thanks for the insight. If they can really hire artists or execs from Capcom Jp, (*) in spite of their attitude and sheer stupidity towards customers, then maybe things can still work out from this after all.

Anything less than that though, and I think a SF4 may flop without Capcom Jp’s expertise. Sure, they could see FFR was a crappy game, that’s true. But it doesn’t change the fact that they haven’t worked on a good fighting game project since HF, which is still just a mere correction of SF2. I don’t think we should be discussing Maximo either. It’s a totally different genre, so it means little.

  • The stupidity I’m referring to includes their denying the All About books exist, their covering up mistranslations with deliberate canon alterations (though it doesn’t matter here, it’s still a fucked up way to handle copyrighted material), neglecting one person asking for brochure till months after their Capcom Edge program ended, writing false info regarding possible US ports in reply to fan mail, etc.

It’s funny that a discussion here about the quality of a character design (Deejay) means discussing art and style. Does anybody care that Deejay was a fun character to play? If you’re like this, then it makes sense to think that SF sucks now. The only reason you’d be playing up to now is if you were a fanboy of sorts.

As for this news about the rights being passed to CapUSA, just wait and see what actually happens, because I still think it’s pretty uncertain. Will they personally develop the next SF entirely? Maybe the info was misconstrued? And you can’t know for sure how the next SF will turn out anyway. Just wait before you hate.
