Street Fighter rights sold to Capcom USA

I don’t buy this Cap America have the rights thing, I’m sure if Capcom JPN want the SF rights back again at any time they can just grab CAP USA by the nutsack and say gimme my SF rights back BEEEEEEEEEEEE-iatch and now!!!

But anyway the SF saga has been a great ride and I’m more than pleased with Capcom.

great, great games.

Maybe they’ll make a new Rival Schools that rivals Tekken or VF you never know, or even a 3d DMC fighter, you never know in the mean time I’ll play Resident Evil.

Too bad about that major guy who created SF and RE leaving Capcom : ( he might come back, hope so.

2d fighters have been dead for years. I’m not sure why people keep making this observation… We can take it as read. I guess we all have to move on to games with 3D graphics or go back to a game that’s 10 years old…

I’m not hating on Capcom USA, but did they really make those games? The credits sequence is more or less identical to WW. DJames for Design Support, and a couple in the Thanks list, and that’s about it…

And come to think of it, what did they actually do for HF? It might be one of the best SF games, but to be fair, there’s nothing to it. I don’t think there are any new frames, and all the game was was a kneejerk reaction to a few hacked versions, so it didn’t take a lot in terms of ideas or programming…

Why is everyone so angry that Capcom USA is is the new SF authoriity? Actually, that can be seen as a good thing can’t it? Think of it this way, with Capcom USA making SF, there is a greater chance that SF fans, like the members of SRK could be working at Capcom USA. If anyone is a game developer or animator (becuse we’re the best), you’d know that it is easier to work here than in Japan. So maybe the games will be better…

I dont think the game is going to be better. I think its just going to sell more. What has Capcom USA pulled out that’s been good? A couple edit’s, which they cant do without a new game, and what else… SF The movie? Do we want more games like that? The only reason people might buy the games is probably because of Hardcore fans and because of advertismenets.

ADVERTISEMENTS.

EDIT: Added USA :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree. It’s something to think about.

I don’t know what it’s like at Capcom, but at most game developers, the teams are so huge now that one individual member has little to no control over what work they do on the game. The actual content is probably decided by a very small number of people. Also, it’s unlikely that you’d ever have enough people that actually understand fighting games on a project to make a difference.

I am really skeptic of this. Really don’t think it is possible to sell rights within a company. Hand off developement to a different studio of course. But not purchasing ownership from oneside to the other.

Deosn’t strike you as a bit odd that Capcom hasn’t said a thing about this? This would be huge news I would think and there would be a press release or some sort of record. Something of this nature wouldn’t be quiet.

So until I see official Capcom confirmation (Not a toy maker or other secondary source) I won’t buy it.

Many large companies work like this. The company that I work for does business in this fashion, too.

Hmmmm… thanks for the clarification. Seems completely bizarre lol. Still not sure why Capcom wouldn’t tell anyone though. I would really expect something like a press release.

This thread is probably a good example of why they didn’t send out a press release.

For you people that don’t like CFE: What were you expecting? It was obviously going to be exactly what it is. I think maybe the only people that like it are the people that understood what it would be.

On another note, Capcom still makes the best 2D fighters, even CFE beats out any of SNK or Sammy’s recent releases.

I agree with your last line, CFE did seem MUCH better than Isuka, IMO.

Personally…I think it’s a good move in a sense. Mainly in the sense that it’s now USA that’s leading the pack in terms of game blockbusters. Whether or not that is a good thing (in regards of whether or not you like US games or Japanese made games) it’s up to the individual person. But localizing the game like this could possibly revive the series in an industry where some of the top selling games are made in North America now.

I know that this might sound like the stupidest thing ever…thinking just because In the US = success, but perhaps now it’s not that far off to suggest that might be more accurate nowadays.

Maybe now Ken will kick Ryu’s ass storyline wise, as should be the case since he’s a far more interesting character.
