Street Fighter rights sold to Capcom USA

LOL.

That doesn’t change the fact that it is dead.

…Wait.

So wanting good graphics in a game is bad now?

What the…

Capcom doesn’t even own the rights to GG, what the fuck are you babbling about?

(Damn, that whole post was so confusing it forced me to use a smiley)

Cough So um how do you pronounce “Gouki”?

I love SF but honestly SF is dead. After DS for the PSP there are exactly 0 SF type games(IE SF,DS,Vs series) in production. People wont play CvS2 and MvC2 in tournies forever. Tekken, SC, VF and KOF will continue, all SF fans will really have to look foward to is SvC2. :lame:

mac farlane toys should do some SF stuff

“GO kee”. Which is why I say the “u” is silent. All the games I’ve played that announce his name, that’s all you hear. You never hear the “u” at ALL. Pronouncing the “u” draws the word out a fraction of a second longer than I’ve ever heard it spoken. Here’s a little fun: Let’s all say “Messatsu Gou Hadou”…properly. “MesSAHTS go hah doh”. Anyone hear any "u"s in there?

The fucking truth!

perhaps not a bad move financially, rather a move that doesnt bode well for SF fans. If this news is true it means that Capcom Japan (the creators) has given up on SF. Hope Cap US will come thru. I lite a candle.

I think that this event might end up as an insight on the video game industry as a whole. I remember seeing some random commentary at E3 by some japanese developer, who almost sounded happy to predict a major shift towards the US in game development. He mentioned the prospect of most games being developed in the US in the near future.

Gaming is changing. It’s becoming mainstream big business, now and it’s getting bigger. Halo 2 claimed 100 million $(!) in sales on it’s first day. Some random dude on TV contrasted that with the 10 mission that the last Harry potter movie made on its opening day. Boom. There you go. Hype sells. That’s not to sal that Halo is “hype.” As damn good as halo 1&2 are, I really don’t think they would have done near as good 5 years ago, back when gaming wasn’t so mainstream.

So, maybe it’s a Good Thing that Capcom did this. Getting funding for american games would probably be easier than for japanese games. Distrubiting them from the US, to Japan, might be easier than the other wy around. See what I’m getting at? This is all just a hunch based on what’s happening recently in the gaming world, though. I’m no gaming professional, or anything. But anyone can see that games and gaming in general are changing rapidly. Fighting games are going to be interesting to watch. it looks like everyone’s going 3D, but you can’t ignore the recent influx of 3rd Strike fans with annaversary collection’s release and all. Is it just nostalga, or do good games just sell well? There really isn’t any way to tell except to make more games, and hopefully that’s just what’s gonna to happen.

If the U was silent his name would be pronounced as in GOCKEE.
The vowel sound for the ‘O’ as pronounced in BOAT is written as ‘OU’ in Roman letters or whatever you call them.

Actually, no I think you are right, it is silent, technically. Ah stuff it who cares?

In japanese, the o has the same sound as it’s name. O. In ENGLISH, the sound relative to the name get’s fucked up. “To” in Japanese is pronounces “Toh”. In English, it’s “Tu/Too”. For Gouki to be called Gockee, I would have to romanize it as follows: “Ga kee”.

Ga Cha!

Anyway back to the topic - wait and see eh? We’ll see…

Well that maybe true, but I think the SF IPs being sold to Capcom USA has more to do with licensing and distribution, rather than the actual games themselves. Capcom USA has been very busy lately pimping the SF licence to other companies, like for example those ugly US SF toys and the neat Udon comics. Back in the day the chances of things like that happening would be low because Capcom Japan had more say in everything SF related. But now with fighting games on the downswing and the fact that many of Capcom’s original staffs have left. Capcom Japan may have decided to give Capcom USA a shot at handling SF, and with the current success of the Udon SF comic and Capcom USA’s other marketing ideas (SFAC being a bundle, though some may say that’s because of SCEA, but eh), the decision to give them control of SF was a bright idea. That could also explain the Udon Arcadia CFJ cover that had not only Udon and Capcom Japan’s copyright, but also Capcom USA’s as well.

It should also be noted that Akira “Akiman” Yasuda is not technically a part of Capcom anymore, since he left a couple of years ago, but he’s still part of the company in sort of a freelance roll. But his “leaving” was probably just done for tax purposes though.

Anyway I still think the message is more related to his art releases rather than the actual games themselves. Hell he’s released artbooks that had both his anime and game work in them before (stuff from Capcom and Sunrise respectively), so he’s well known for releasing many artbooks. Well he is an artist afterall, an awesome one at that too.

So that’s just my 2 cents on the topic.

Alright, I guess you shouldn’t go bitching then if Michael Jackson ran for president and people gave him their votes. You’re not psychic, you’re not a master of the gov’t, you’re not good enough to predict the outcome, so you can’t pretend you’d know what would happen. Just wait and see what would become of it.

TEH END OF TEH WORLD!11

Yeah, I think it’s bad news as well. ;]

Guile as the main character for SF4.

Id have to say I am suspiscious of this move myself. At the very least, such a move could indicate indirectly that Capcom as a whole is attempting to make a move with the SF franchise, perhaps a move as in a new title. Otherwise, the sale of the SF franchise makes little sense to me considering there hasn’t been a real honest to goodness Street Fighter game obviously since 3rd Strike.

I dunno about that. Maybe the toys and stuff, but last I heard Udon was working with Capcom Japan on the comic. I’ll admit though, I was away for a while so maybe this changed and I missed it.

I wonder if this will have any affect on Udon’s comic actually…hrm…

This would have impressed me if it weren’t for the fact that the last Harry Potter movie SUCKED. Worst attempt at a book-to-movie I’ve ever seen. If you want, I’ll make a list as to why it exactly sucked, but if it’s not needed I won’t bother.

Generally, this isn’t TOO bad of a move, considering Capcom Japan has pretty much lost all their fire for the fighting genre ANYWAY, delegating it to someone else can’t hurt. Leave it to someone else to take the next step in SF. I hope Capcom USA doesn’t screw this up, but we might get lucky.

one of my friends who works for cap USA says that he has the project to make SF4.This guys legit too, Ive seen alot of stuff from him
-He told this to me last staurday BTW

There aren’t any silent vowels in Japanese. Gouki is pronounced GOU -ki/kee(or GOH-ki/kee, which produces that underlying u sound that should be there unless you say his name too fast), exactly how it looks. ???, not ???. Just because you say Kyaku like “Tatsumaki Senpu Kyak”, doesn’t mean it’s PROPERLY pronounced Kyaku. It’s not silent, you just never notice you’re saying it.
