That’s exactly the attitude I’m expecting Capcom USA to think fans have towards any new Street Fighter products. I mean just look at those ugly Street Fighter Action figures ~ Shudder ~
Pretty much, when you compare the Japanese stuff to the U.S stuff.
Sarcasm just don’t go over well over the internet.
How about this: Instead of this elitist “If another SF game is made, it’s going to suck only because it’s not made in Japan” garbage, how about something that might actually make sense – wait for a Capcom USA-made Street Fighter game to be released at some point after this transaction and pass judgement then. You never know, they might have learned a thing or two and could very well release a superior game.
Hmmm… I can’t decide if this is good or bad… the voices in my head just can agree
Umm, you guys do know that the message on Akiman’s site was just to say that he needs approval first from Capcom USA if he decides to release another artbook featuring Street Fighter characters right? The news isn’t really about the games themselves, but the fanboys and haters just come in to do their thing.
CE, HF and Alpha2 were created by Capcom Japan. Just see the game credits. Capcom USA only released them in American territories. Evil Ryu also was created by CJ, and also appears in the different japanese alpha 2 revisions. But he only uses that name in Zero 3. The japanese complete name of Evil Ryu is “Satsu no hadou ni Mezameta Ryu”, that’s the name used in the japanese guides of the various versions of Alpha 2 and 3.
The only Street Fighter maded in USA, as I remember is Street Fighter The Movie (Van Damme’s), the arcade version (the console adaptations were maded by Capcom Japan), and it was maded by Incredible Technologies under Capcom supervision.
But Capcom USA maded good games like Maximo.
“Gouki” with japanese pronunciation sounds like “Gookee” in English pronunciation. And the japanese writing is based on the pronunciation.
or Marvel Vs Capcom 3?
I think this is Bogus! Why would they sell it in the first place knowing the arcade market is dead here and still roaring in Japan?
this sounded weird at first but after I thought about it, no it doesn’t. Capcom Japan has lost interest in develping SF and has dropped the ball on a few things, including story and characters. Capcom USA has seen abnormally strong sales for SF Anniversary, a successful US comic, and an accompanying toy line. I think Capcom USA is finally realizing the profit that can still be made from the series and they know that the Japanese branch won’t do anything other than rehash and license. They have made SLOW changes. SSF2TR had the “correct” ending for Cammy. SFA3U kept all of Eagle’s suggestive quotes. SF Anniversary was packaged as a two part and reasonably priced instead of being broken up (coughresidentevil2&3gamecubecough). There was a massive push at Blockbuster Video to promote SF Anniversary and the Udon controllers. And the most important one of all–THEY ASKED THE FANS. Remember that survey/product discussion they conducted a while back for the California residents? They asked a number of SF and fighting game questions if my memory of a few attendee “transripts” is correct.
I guess they listened.
Capcom USA just might make a few missteps here and there but unlike Capcom Japan, at least they still feel steps can be made. They made FF Revenge (I’ve never played it but I’ll take everyone’s word that it sucked) but they also made Dee Jay (preventing Capcom from doing the Ken/Ryu thing to Fei Long). They’ve made their share of mistakes but they aren’t total idiots either.
I pray that Udon will have a larger part in whatever SF game comes out of Capcom USA division. I also pray that whatever SF comes out is 2D. Contrary to popular belief, there HAVE to be some good artists somewhere in the country.

wow…look at everyone over reacting, all it says is Capcom gave the sf rights, to capcom usa…that’s it. Capcom JPN (going by capcom JPN’s record this year, I’d rather they give it to someone else) wasn’t doing anything with the title so they gave it up…actually American companies have killed Japanese companies this year in making games, in terms of innovation, sales etc.
…why is everybody ignoring this post?
nice points. i totally agree
Because they’re all idiots…=/
Because no one wants to admit that SF is dead.
Everyone who posted that this is a bad move is an idiot.
I don’t give two shits whether you’re a fanboy or a pro, either.
You’re not psychic.
You’re not a master of the video game market.
You’re not good enough to predict the outcome of this decision.
You’re not going to make people flock to SNK because you act like a hatin’ retard (coughtimestopcough).
The only thing you can do is wait and see what becomes of this. If they make a shitty SF game or NO fighter at all, then, sure, say it was a stupid move. But until that happens, don’t pretend you know what’s going to happen.
That’s all I gotta say.
Umm, well I don’t know kyoji, I speak Japanese well, and the first sentence says “The rights to Street Fighter have apparently been sold to Capcom U.S.A., so from now on it will be hard to put out art collections and things of that sort.” Then he laughs for some reason.
by the way for those who speak japanese and want to take a look, that passage in the diary was moved here: http://cgi.no-ip.org/cgi-bin/akiman/index-2004-11-10-021025.html
The haters want SF to be dead.
The real players will keep playing and having fun though, regardless of the anime/Japan fanboys that demand Guilty Gear ultra hi-res anime graphics in the games. I just hope Capcom doesn’t read these boards. They’d be like, “Wtf, the fans of SF–the only people who would play a new SF release–don’t want SF anymore and want something totally different? What a bunch of PMS-ing haters. But okay, 3D/Guilty Gear it is I suppose.”
To the people in denial, the president of SOTA confirmed it:
“its true…happened a couple weeks ago. It doesnt affect us at all as we’re friends with both ends of Capcom.”
why am I not good enough to predict? I’m not good enough to make an informed guess reguarding the outcome here based on the history of the companies? There’s nothing wrong with predictions man; and they dont mean you presume to be psychic if you make them. Not trying to hurt the scene but im skeptical however waiting to be surprized by an ill 2d US SF in the future (i hope they just dont try and milk for merchandise nshit, but actually make some 2d fighting games). I guess it could happen, I mean weaponlord was the bomb (no sarcasm intended, really).
