that vid showed some properties of moves i’ve been speculating about. good to get confirmation…i was right. I’ve got so many combos and experiments in my head for months. 100%s, resets, tentative teams, strats, tricks, etc. its gonna be funny when ppl are getting bodied by Thor. i actually saw some things that could’ve been done differently in that vid.
also i dunno how p2 built so much meter with Trish/Skrull duo AC inbetween :50 and :54 but that was pretty ridiculous. he went from 1.8 meters to 4 in about four moves. might be a developmental oversight for now, pretty sure it’ll be fixed later. Wesker did something similar in one of the gamespot showcase vids.
Thanks for the info! It’s really appreciated. Looking at the vid:

[]Tri-dash (air-dash down-forward) lag does look way too stupid. Regular air-dash, on the other hand, looks ok. In my mind, Thor has a 7-way dash. Down-forward doesn’t exist.
[]Air-dash j.C looks to have really nice priority, if not the best startup. I can easily see a good assist backing up that approach.
[]Mighty Spark A (and even B) startup really isn’t slow compared to other beams. Coupled with another, chip-damage projectile assist that the opp can’t duck (like Doom Rocks), I can see that being a semi-annoying ranged series. Anything that forces opp to approach Thor is a good thing.
[]I was wrong about Mighty Spark durations :-/ They don’t seem to last very long. Still, extremely good recovery.

I still really think Thor will need those long-duration, area-of-effect assists, because most of those same assists (like missiles & rocks) will be the bane of his existence, along with push-block. He’s gonna need a lot of cover while he air-dashes/Mighty-Strikes to get in. Hopefully, Thor will be able to do a LOT of damage to if not straight-up kill) assists with his BnB air-combo before the opp can stop him.
thor NOT getting his ass beat?

Once Thor gets figured out he is going to be top tier. He looks like if you want the most out of him then you need to utilize assist. The its just rape your opponents health bar. That’s not even considering using KFC. Then they just got ravaged.
Damage isn’t all that’s important.
Holy shit, that was painful to watch. People seriously need to start picking Simple Mode.
True, but the point he was making (“once Thor gets figured out”) is kinda assuming that damage is only part of the equation.
And I agree with him… partially. If Thor has anything to figure in the first place, he could be top tier.
People are actually…excited about Thor? A definite Low-Tier character!?
Pahahaha! Never change, SRK.
There is nothing definite about anything in this game yet since it is still in production. Your argument is invalid.
Whatever you say buddy, you just know as well as I do that Thor will be Low to Mid-Tier AT BEST.
just like how dudley and ibuki were broken tier
Hey SRK, remember when Dudley was gonna be amazing in SSFIV and Adon was thought to be worthless because people couldn’t come with shit on their own?
Thor may end up a shit character, but that fact certainly won’t be proven by Dante/Trish dick-riders replicating combos they saw on Youtube.
If he stays the way he is now, maybe. They could make the slightest change between now and release time that could put him over to completely broken God Tier with the way he puts out damage. From a developers perspective I’d be trying to balance him from the bottom up with the high end damage he does, because the TINIEST miscalc will probably break him.
Game doesn’t release until next year though, so ANY kind of tier placement right now just makes you sound like an idiot.
Speed up his tri-dash and make it cancelable, and I could certainly see that happening. Which is another reason why I think he needs a damage tone. They’re not gonna risk giving him any mobility if a BnB combo with no DHC/XFC does 75% on any character.
So, they balance him by making him a Zangief in a game full of Akumas :-/
As I understand it, the build at the Atlanta Fight Club was the same ol’ build that was at the NYCC. Fuckin’ hell. At this rate, we’re not going to get anything really definitive until launch. Still, thanks to Arttronik for providing some more insight on the God of Thunder.
I’m still not giving up on Thor, though. At some point, I do hope a Fight Club comes along that actually gives us new shit to play with.
Yeah thats pretty much how I see it. He really does seem to be the Zangief of this game at the moment. Which even as he is now, I don’t think he’s THAT bad off. It’s just going to take some skill to get in with him. If his damage stays the way it is, it SHOULD take some skill to get in with him. Obviously nobody has any skill with the character as of yet because the game isn’t out and anybody who’s played it has had maybe 5-10 minutes with it.
I think mighty thunder/shockwave be a good DHC only in certain situations. Like, you’d need to use it as a DHC if Thor comes in really close to the opponent, like DHC’ing to magnetic shockwave with Magneto.
I imagine it could be good after Spider-Man’s maximum spider, during Captain America’s hyper charging star, or other such DHCs that would put him very close. I mean, I remember watching S.Kill’s demonstration of Thor during TGS, and he used mighty thunder/shockwave against Iron Man and it wrecked him. Granted, Iron Man was at low HP, but he died before all the hits of the super hit, and he had…I think 25% HP left. So, I think it’ll be ideal for DHC’ing if you’re in the proper situation.
No problem. I didnt mind doin this at all! As far as the switch to Thor went… you’re right. Trish and Skrull were much easier to get in with, so I figured I’d try to DHC to Thor- and unless you’re in your opponents face, Thor really isn’t going DHC well. I Also compared to my teammates, his pacing is far different. I had to compensate for that as well.
If youre talking about the part with the team Aerial combo (vid isnt up at the moment) those seem to build meter nicely. I’m surprised people didnt use them more. I think most people tried to knock down on air combos in hopes to doing resets. I personally love team air combos- I think you start with a strong hitter like Thor, you can keep going and building meter without damage scaling affecting you too much. Thor first will insure damage, the other two are getting you meter as the damage scales away.
No prob. Jumping C is useful. Mighty spark A is pretty good. I saw no issue using it. B and C are a bit too slow for my preference. I think those are going to be used for mindgames. I agree, a good assist will help him to for. I like Trish as an assist, but Doom/Dante ranged assist can really help him get in and do some damage.
No problem, man! I think you’re right, I haven’t seen all of the characters yet- so it may come in handy! It still seems like the time between the pose and the actual first lightning column is enough time to either block or jab him out of it. I’m not sure yet- but it did see odd when it use. I was expecting a magnetic shock wave, lol. But, who knows- it may be great! I should have tried performing the super after a c.C. Lol.
I’d like to see some fly (and possibly) unfly setups and see what he can do. I wish I had more time to do anything with the character!
Something I thought of doing is the standard aircombo and grabbing the opponent then launching after it and repeating? Just theory, I dunno if it would work. I was trying but I couldnt seem to get my air grabs to connect. User error at that point- I know its possible.
Lets see what we can figure out…
After watching the video I was way to post a joke about how people will be saying he’s top tier now. Too late…
Seriously though, it looks like Thor can work his way in fairly decently after pushblock by using Cap assist to hold em still. I’m not saying he’s therefore great and under rated, just that the whole pushblock problem might have been really exaggerated.
Yeah, I was thinking that as well. The problem that everyone has said is that his throw range is garbage, and people will likely be mashing buttons anyway, preventing the grab.
But, on the terminally optimistic side, maybe it’s all down to playing more to get the perfect timing and spacing. And looking at the damage he does off normals, one air-combo throw-reset into BnB Tornado could end up being 100%. That would be, I dunno, stupid?
Stupid? No. Unfair? Hell yeah. LOL.
I think the grab is a hard move to pull off. In the video I had, someone advance guarded my grab attempt. I was surprised. It wasn’t a “break away” or “tech” he literally just advance guarded.
That grab is gonna be hella tough to work with, maybe a stun/freezing assist is in order?
