Straight Outta Asgard, Thors thread

That wouldn’t be optimum, but then again, Strider Doom was Strider Doom.

Not that I expect Thor <insert amazing synergistic assist character here> to be that good. But I wouldn’t complain if that came true. Just have to see what happens in the next build, I guess.

TvC says yo

Sounds good, I’ll do my best to try all of this out. Hopefully, I can get a few chances to play someone who’ll also want to test out characters, if not I’ll sneak these trials into an actual fight.

I also wonder how XFACTOR affects Thor as well!

Hey in that video, was he charging his 236 projectile? At about 2:35 in the video.

Also a little earlier in it looked like he did his HCB grab and could launch after it. I dunno if anyone pointed that out yet. I’m sure someone did. That could be useful.

Its all arbitrary at this point, but I really think he can do something. If he can manage to keep away and exploit mistakes, I see Thor taking out characters really quick.

the projectile is bizarrely slow for the harder buttons, its one of its… ‘features’, and that’s what you’re seeing :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah we know you can combo out of his throw, thats one of the things people actually find exciting >

NEVER have I EVER said Thor was a good character after CFC I put him as the 5th worst character. only after eloborating with some of my freinds and seeing more about the characters that were below him (in my eyes) were capable of. after seeing that the east coast and keits further verified my fears. he is most DEFINITELY the worst character in the game (well i still think Chris is about as bad). Read the damn posts neither contradicts . one just points out the negatives and the other the positives. I displayed a much more optimistic attitude and spoke to the positives of Thors game (which was a much much smaller post as compared to my breakdown of the negatives).

Oh and Guy can combo in and out of throw in SF4

i hope that is’t our top display of Thor…because it kinda sucked. the opponent didn’t believe in blocking

Well Chris can zone, which even at meh levels is better than meh rushdown. Also, he has that trolling ability by going prone. The ability to combo his own hyper helps too. He’s not that great (with that stupid Grenade punishment they put in) but he can get the job done. He sort of reminds me of Rose, where he has the ability to switch his playstyle from offensive to defensive and back pretty quickly and do decent at it.

Yungkratos seems to be one of those ‘if I speak forcefully enough maybe people will think I’m an expert’ types. Not very charming, really.

It’s just an internal demo. Those aren’t gonna show great high-level play as much as just pure information about combos and properties.

Here, at around 0m55s, he does the super-slow air Mighty Strike.

And, in both of these internal vids, we can that see:
[] c.A,c.C,s.E ^ j.A,j.B,j.C xx Mighty Strike xx Mighty Tornado BnB does around 80% on lower stamina characters, with no relaunch and no DHC
[
] c.A,c.C,s.E ^ j.A,j.B,j.C,j.E v Mighty Smash xx Mighty Tornado/Thunder seems possible, for probably the same amount of damage
[] Both slow and fast air Mighty Strikes seem to recover ok on whiff (at least in the vid, they seem to)
[
] His slow ass air-dash looks to be cancelable. The problem is that his supposedly best air-to-ground attack (j.C) comes out too slow for him to do any kind of tri-dash rushdown. It seems like he’ll just have to do a straight-ahead airdash canceled immediately into j.C or j.E.
(aside: the note that his tri-dash sucks lends to the notion/misconception that people are trying to play him like someone he’s not, as opposed to Thor actually sucking. I mean, Chun Li’s projectile is ass, but that doesn’t say anything about her being a great/awful character. It just means her projectile is ass).

Mighty Spark A comes out about as fast Doom’s Plasma Beam. Mighty Spark C comes out about as fast as… if you dashed forward, waited, then did Mighty Spark A. But at least it has ok duration and good damage. All have pretty fast recovery and surprisingly large anti-air hitboxes, oddly enough

relax dude. i was poking fun at you. hence the

Chill. So you changed your mind on Thor. Big deal.

What can I say I talk big shit :stuck_out_tongue:

we’ll turn on you like a pack of pihrana!

Thor’s projectile better get fast Capcom or else…

if it gets ducked it should bounce off the wall and come back, therefore giving mad frame advantage.

If anyone is going to Fight Club tonight, any testing you can do of the good/bad/ugly about Thor would be most appreciated. I feel like this is potentially the last chance we have to really influence how he’s tweaked before release.

After watching what little of the stream was viewable tonight, none of my faith was restored. Thor was on the losing end of almost every exchange.

On top of that, I swear the next person I see pull out his Thornado hyper randomly from across the screen is gonna get smacked with a trout. I know everybody’s a long way from being an expert at this game, but it’s not hard to figure out that the super isn’t gonna hit on the opposite side of the stage, and if you do it more than once in a match (which many did), I think S-Kill’s beard should walk up and issue you an I.Q. test on the spot.

I think you got alot of the “Thornado” attack because people didnt know the supers. I think it was a bit counter intuitive- I assume most were expecting to get the large lighting column super (the magnetic shockwave-ish one) and got the “thornado.”

Speaking of which the lighting column super fills up the screen almost and has huge range-but its slow to startup. Be careful! Also, this is not a good super to DHC.

I played only 3 matches, all to really test out Thor.

Here’s what I found out-

As mentioned earlier, the easiest way to launch would be c.A c.C, E. It was simple and easy. B did that spinning hammer attack. I was able to hit Dante with this during his rushing forward with fire attack. So, when timed right, the hammer spin is useful.

The qcf projectile is ok. The A version is the fastest, the other two are really slow.

His 8 way dash makes for a nice way to maneuver around. It isn’t the fastest though.

He can fly. I couldn’t really exploit this, because I’m still unsure of the command for it. To be honest.

He has a mighty smash in the air that allows him to strike DIRECTLY downward. This move and jumping C allowed a good way to jump in on an opponent.

I didn’t get to really test Thor as an assist. I saw lots of Molecular Shield, and Dante’s missile attacks as assists tonight. I think Thor can get in with Trish as an assist though. Her hopscotch move strikes an opponent who jumps over her placed “mat” if you will. Once hit with that, I would use his torpedo (sorry, don’t know the name)move to fly forward and then proceed to attempt air combos.

Range on the HCB grab is very slight, you must be VERY close get it to work.

Also, it was a c.C… that would knock down if not followed up by launching. Its like a hammer sweep animation. Makes sense, I remember someone asking about it. The jumping E attack seemed to do a nice bit of damage for a normal- from what I could tell.

Sorry if this is all things you all knew- it was extremely crowded and no one really knew the moves, lol! Additionally, people wanted to really just use Dante/Wolverine and play. I was trying to play (since no one wanted to just test attacks) but at the same time I was testing moves. So, you’ll see me throwing out commands and normals. You can take a look here:

I think this video is before I discovered dashing in the air with the torpedo attack.

I think Thor will have potential in the right hands. He seems like a slower character however, he does have high mobility options in the air with the 8 way airdash, and torpedo move. The airdash is slow, but with a good assist it seems like it could work out!

I still see some potential, but people are already getting annoying with Dante, Trish, and Amaterasu. We’ll see how he fares. I’ll continue to use him.

Thanks, man! Really appreciate the efforts to test things. It’s nice to know you see some hope, but I don’t like the fact that we’re having to “work with a fine-toothed comb” (as my mother would say) to find good stuff in Thor. Honestly, it seemed like you were doing very well at dominating that match UNTIL you brought Thor in. Did I misinterpret, or did you find switching to him caused you to struggle?
