Well⌠hereâs the thing. Season 1 of all ST shows suck. Characters havenât found their identity yet, writing is weird, episodes leading nowhere, etc. So i kinda expect it to suck for S1âŚ
Yea even TNGs first season was meh at best.
Thatâs pretty much any sci-fi/fantasy show⌠You havenât establish characters, set up the various factions and rules in order to get the audience to buy in.
Most of those shows donât start getting good until mid-second/third season, when shit gets real.

Uhura wasnât a main character on the original show. Spock, Bones and Kirk were the only leads.
Itâs like saying Zulu was a main character because he was allowed to dance like a gaylord and swing around a rapier in one episode.
Itâs kinda hard to call Uhura a token though, because in that time, there were no tokens to satisfy diversity in tv-shows. On top of that she didnât have a garbage job, she was equal to the other crew members.
Token black guys are used to satisfy political correctness, while she Zulu and Chekov were used to piss of nationalists/racists and to show sensible persons a future that does not suck.

Yeah im in the same boat. Despite people bashing the show its a light-hearted version of Star trek. Its okay.
Itâs a sci-fi show on Fox⌠It will be lucky to see a second season.
Yeah, it has more of a chance than others due to Foxâs obsession with McFarlane, but sci-fi and that network have a tumultuous history at best.
According to the internet the ST nerds are raging about Discovery: âit doesnât feel like STâ.

So I watched both episodes aaaaaaaaaaaaaand⌠I liked it. Now, Iâm no Star Trek nerd, but I did grow up on the old series. Maybe thatâs why Iâm not questioning why the degree of the sun is not perpendicular to the inclination of the ship, like some of the more extreme cases I read about online.
Uniforms make no sense. I dunno⌠they kinda seem to be a followup from Enterprise.

The crew is not memorable. No shit retard, they are temporary just like the ship. That alien dude might make a comeback.
The crew makes dumb decisions! Yeah, thatâs been a staple of Star Trek since day one.
I really enjoyed it and the rest of the season looks really crazy. Although Iâm surprised sheâs not the captain⌠yet. Iâm sure that alien guy will come back and she will be under his command or something to shake things up.
They could have made this after Voyager and the Klingons could have been a different race for a total win.
Discovery is not DS9 and I donât think it will ever reach that level, but for what it is, Iâm enjoying it.
