OK I’ll bite. What was the point you were making because it’s unclear.
Considering i quoted Blitzfu and you then started talking about Heavenly Claw i don’t think i could explain it to you in a way that would make sense to your reasoning.
I’ll give it a try and simply say you should all be glad you even have the option rather than arguing over who of you have the longest drive to your chosen area of available competition .
Ok well, to level set, I was referring (or trying to refer to) your post where you said “quit whining”. It doesn’t seem fair to say that, IMO.
jfc, not only is everyone off-topic, but nobody is on the same page. i think lemon juice and coke isn’t the right analogy either. i’d say more like alpha 1 ryu vs alpha 1 dan… that doesn’t work either. dan was fun to play in that game. how about a 2010 jet black f-350 duelly with big country knobby tires right off the lot vs a 1977 rusty lime green ford pinto with bald lopsided tires.
No that doesn’t work because the second car is too disparaging.
It’s more like… coke versus coke zero. There’s classic coke, its great, its refreshing, you know what to expect. But then there came this new coke, which claimed to have all the taste, all the flavor, and none of the calories! Well, the coke drinkers were very happy at this thought…
But then Coke Zero came out, and when it was nice and cold and drank from a can… you could still tell it wasn’t coke, but it was okay… but there were alot of people who had never drank coke but had only had coke zero and they thought it was the best thing ever. Well… a little while later, people decided to go back to coke and told their coke zero drinking friends to try coke, well they had been so conditioned on coke zero that the coke didn’t taste right! So they said “Ewww! That’s not coke, THIS is coke!” and lifted their coke zero can.
Personally, I’m a fan of coke, I can drink coke zero when its cold in a can (I.E. when the competition is good, not scrubby, not throwing random ultras, etc.) But when I’m forced to drink coke zero warm from a fountain (I.E. watching people mash DP on wakeup, randomly throwing ultra when they’re low on life, seeing people turtle… no matter who they play)… it makes me want to throw up. Now, obviously I prefer my coke cold and out of a can, but I love coke so much I can drink it warm and from a fountain (any time anyone plays Akuma, getting ToDed by Dictator, being zoned by DGV… oh wait… that’s awesome… for HIM! lol)… It’s the same thing with the SF4… I mean Coke Zero lovers. They love their coke zero, its what they know, Coke maybe is too sweet, or you drink it too fast, or maybe it has a funny aftertaste or something to them because all they’ve drank is coke zero that’s what they know and they’ll prefer it cold and in a can but drink it warm and from a fountain. Many coke drinkers can taste the hint of coke in the coke zero, but many feel its not what they were promised from Coke Zero…
Now there are people who like both when they’re cold and in a can and don’t want to accidentally run into warm fountain coke or coke zero (the strictly offliners). There are some who will only do one or the other cold and in a can. There are some who just love soda so much more than water they’ll drink whatever whenever just to not have to drink something else, no matter how it is…
So I would say most people on this forum are coke drinkers, we prefer it cold and in a can but we’ll take it how we can get it. We’re not big fans of coke zero because the differences in flavor are just too much to overcome its zero calorie benefit.
There are some like Coth who like Coke and like Coke Zero and since he prefers it cold and in a can, and the only way to get the can where he lives is to drink coke zero, drinks more coke zero nowdays. That’s okay.
what about a real guitar vs guitar hero? i’ve never tried coke zero and i don’t think many people overall have either. or maybe angus beef burgers and tofu burgers. sean connery bond vs timothy dalton bond. dukes of hazzard before actors’ strike vs dukes of hazzard during actors’ strike. wow, this could be the coolest thread.
honestly, the best analogy i can think of is playing basketball with a good basketball vs a lopsided ball. you just have to make do with the lopsided ball because you don’t have much else to go with sometimes.
But that analogy unfairly characterizes the opposition. I mean if you feel that one is blantantly inferior to the other than the analogy works, but for the purposes of the discussion above, I think you have to start with two separate yet equal items which have strengths and weaknesses which create preferences and encourage rational decision making… Or at least that’s what I teach my econ students when they’re making decisions between two items… you have to do that because when choosing between two unequal items, like your basketball versus lopsided ball, well the basketball is clearly superior, but what drives people to use the lopsided ball? Is it cost? Are there unknown innovation benefits that we couldn’t previously meausre?
Hence I think the better analogy is between any item and its reasonably equal substitute. Then you have to discuss the analogies between each item and the game its supposed to represent while discussing what makes the items dissimilar so that you can then identify why people would choose each possibility based on the preferences and qualities provided… and that in a nutshell is the basis of Rational Decision Making Theory.
Well with the Coke and Lemon juice, I’m surprised no one picked up that I was being fecetious. Coke is sweet (like ST/HDR) and lemon juice leaves a nasty taste in your mouth (like IV).
 at the analogies, but some of your analogies are obviously biased.
It seems that alot of you don’t like IV often because it isn’t II, I know I’ve said that before, but that tends to be the reason for most of you.
Oh well, you’ll play what you want. I just hope for you guys xbox hdr support doesn’t drop if they ever upgrade to a new console.
PSN HDR can go to hell for all I care.
Honestly not sure what is going on here anymore, but…
I main Vega in both SSF4 and HDR; I have no troubles transitioning between the two.
In the end, each Street Fighter game is part of it’s own series; HDR is part of SF2, 3s is part of SF3, and SSF4 is part of the SF4 series. Comparing them to each other is like comparing Golf to Soccer.
see, these words are your problem right there. anyway, i did insinuate that having a lopsided ball is better than not having one at all.
The soccer fans are going to complain because golf doesn’t require lightning reflexes or fast execution or abuseable loops and its not turbo speed.
it isn’t soccer and golf. it’s more like tackle and flag football.
you want to get the right sf rush, these are the necessary changes. these are not debateable based on the fact that you CAN choose how you want to play ssf4.
number 1:
damage scaling option- you should be able to turn damage scaling on/off. once the gloves come off, you’ll see who can do what. at least allow for damage scaling reset with fdc’s if turning damage scaling off completely is not an option.
number 2:
three speed options- this one doesn’t need much explanation. normal, turbo 1, and turbo 2.
number 3:
ultra scaling- if and only if damage scaling can be shut off. maybe 20-30% reduction on ultras.
number 4:
jabs and shorts should push out further if connected.
if the faint of heart want to play the current version, keep the options at default. for those of us who miss the adrenaline, no damage scaling at turbo 2.
The trials in (S)SF4 are stupid and a real missed oppurtinity. Most of them are impractical and not relevant in a real match. They should have been set up to where they could have been used as teaching tools to show players things they could have really used in a real match. They are (for the most part) just randomly hard, not practical, just for achievements combos.
Played a bunch of SSF4 over the weekend. Still thinks it’s just OK. I kinda like it but there is just a bunch of sloppy design in the game that holds me back from really liking it. The thing that still makes me the most mad about SF4 is the wasted potential I see in it. When I went back to HDR late Monday took a little bit to get the timing for that game back down, but overall wasn’t that hard to switch.
I could learn to play SFIV. My absolute biggest gripe is this bullshit ultra system. Get rid of that and I’d be willing to play it as a side game. I’ve actually been playing some SSFIV today and the amount of bullshit I got hit by was funny. Sagat does a jump in kick, mash ultra and it connects? How easy do you want to make it for the guy who is losing to even it back up?
Then as Ken I attempted to punish something with my ultra. I saw that the limb was in recovery and hit the timing perfect. If it was ST he’d have been dead and buried. But no, somehow despite the arm being obviously hittable, it somehow whiffed.
Also Bisons ultra is pretty laugable. Does some kind of headstomp shit? I got hit by that and it didn’t even connect, he landed behind me because I moved out of the way.
Horrible hit detection.
I’ll never take it seriously, but I’ve got a new guilty pleasure that is trolling all the scrubs with my pink T.Hawk. I won some 15 games in a row earlier which was funny. I suspected one of the guys was using turbo, and sure enough the input display confirmed it. When I asked him he denied it, but when I told him I saw the inputs he made some whack excuse about he is used to it being on and forgot to turn it off.
I’ve had 4 people remove me from lobbies for winning lol. Also had 3 ragequits (I played around 30 in total). My best moment was beating a 5K points Ibuki with Ken with ease. I don’t get what those points mean but I gather 5K is supposed to be decent? He looked to be owning the guy before me, perfected him.
But yeah. People still turtle to hell, the hit detection is weird, the walk speed is way too slow and ultras are retarded. Apart from that I would be tempted to take it seriously. I don’t think it will stand the test of time very well. People will forget this as soon as SFV hits because it seems like the fans who are playing IV now are the Shooter generation who just move from one title to another. The kind of people that miss out on ST/HDR because it is old.
It wasn’t hit detection, it was hitboxes, it has a wide hitbox on both sides, so he doesn’t have to actually land on you.
Losing to mash/random ultras? That’s your fault sorry, but that isn’t the games fault.
Ken actually has that very same combo in HDR… and it’s not like your ultra doesnt fill up when you get hit.
It’s been a while so I don’t remember, and someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you actually block it low on the ground. Here’s the hitbox data

People said the same thing about ST and complained how it wasn’t like Turbo.
Ironically enough, they also complained about the supers in that game as well. It’s waay too early to make the conclusion that SSFIV won’t stand the test of time. From a business standpoint, its a fantastic thing that this game is as popular as it is. We’ve had a drought for almost 10 years in terms of Capcom fighters. With SF4 being as popular as it is, Capcom is taking notice. This could potentially mean more classic Capcom franchises being revived.
I hated SF4 when it came out because it wasn’t ST and because I tried to play it like ST, and wanted the game mechanics of ST. When I stopped wishing SF4 was ST and just accepted it for what it was, I started to enjoy it a lot more. When I accepted the fact that the majority of stuff in ST simply didnt carry over as well as I would have liked, and just accepted the fact that I’d have to learn street fighter all over again, then things started to make more sense.
That’s blasphemy Warrior, why should ST players have to learn a different SF game, since obviously ST is the best.
because ST is not isomorphic to SF4. It failed the onto property. For example, Ken’s ultra 2 has no ultra in ST that gets mapped onto it
Again guys SF4 is too defensive. The amount of defensive options are more than the amount of offensive options. The defensive options are also very high damaging. If you like to rushdown then SF4 is not a good game. I like how in ST/HDR you can beat a new player in ten seconds with pure rushdown. SF4 you have to wait and the pace is just too slow. That still doesn’t mean I like a pure rushdown game where everyone is flying all over the place.
Some of the defensive options such as crouch teching should definitely be removed in some way.
Guile I am also noticing I am hating his new balancing more and more. You can hit him with a jump in almost simultaneously as he is throwing a low punch sonic boom and he can block it.
Rufus I was giving a go because it felt like the way to go for rushdown. I can pull his 1 frames off in training and versus mode. Online though that 1 frame drops frequently so Rufus is stupid to play online. Akuma is not as good as he used to be and is also risky online. Zangief is too frustrating to play with people who run away the whole match. Balrog isn’t even the same character that he was in ST/HDR.
I remember playing HDR almost everyday. Now I play SSF4 like once a week and am not really into fighting games much anymore.
