SSFIV has killed my GAME! Noooooooooooo!

you’re not getting it. people who have been playing sf for years aren’t comparing ssf4 to ST/remix. we’re comparing ssf4 to all other street fighter games (ce, hf, the alpha series). some of us are even comparing ssf4 to other games such as vf, tekken, samurai showdown, guilty gear, etc, etc. it’s not about learning a new game. it’s about wanting to learn a new game. i’ll put my time in if i see it worth my time. i just don’t get that high with ssf4. i used to skip classes just to learn ryu’s 23 hitter on alpha1 on a pad or try to beat the game at the highest level without losing a round.

Of course, how stupid of me to even think of challenging a wakeup on someone who looks like he only has a basic grasp of the game. Oh wait, that’s right I forgot the reversal window was so fucking huge.

Everyone gets hit by random shit at some point or another, or it wouldn’t be random. Quite often scrubs give decent players more trouble than they are worth, simply because the good players give the bad players too much credit. Something along the lines of, “He is no way going to reversal super here because that would be obvious and I’ve punished him twice with that bait already”.

It wouldn’t be quite as bad if the ultra bar only filled once you were at 25% damage. At least you would have to risk something for landing that ultra (eg fuck up and it’s punish=dead).

It’s like krknight said, I’d be happy to learn 3rd Strike or Alpha 2/3. It’s not “we are hating IV because it’s new/not ST”, we just don’t like it because it has nothing that appeals to us. The ultra system is just a complete turn off too.

Just curious, how fast can you kill somebody in SF4 vs SF2?

I think he was being facetious towards me.

Isn’t it? Honestly, you’ve played both and you can’t tell me that IV > II. ST just feels more solid as a game and it doesn’t compromise itself to try to appeal to anyone that isn’t interested.

Honestly no, I don’t really give one game more credit than the other. There are things in both games that I really don’t like.

Seriously though, I’m done, play what you want.

Personal best was 92 seconds remaining with Ken on HDR.

In competition, or as a combo video? The touch of death stuff tends to take about 10 timer ticks in Super Turbo. SF IV has

In four I’ve had matches that lasted maybe 20 to 30 counts. I’ve seen others like that too. It seems like charge characters drag out matches more than footsie/motion characters do.

Coth - you are correct on a few points about IV, but mashing is definitely a huge part of the game. It is very easy to cancel into supers, wake-ups can be done 100%, and so forth. Watch this video:

Not to discount Onslaught but Rawkus is a superior player. While he did fail to capitalize on HORRIBLE choices like Akuma using teleport to get in, the lenient reversal window left his combos victim to random SRK’s.

Take this from a person who has actually decided to make IV/SSIV a priority over HDR  Maybe I’m just hyped because I’ve learned how to FADC properly and suddenly the hard trials have become ALOT easier  Anyway, everyone has some valid points in this debate so let’s not go crazy over it.

Traitor.

Then they weren’t combos. . .

Granted its online, but thats a problem with online games not the game itself.

You should also listen to what gootecks and the other guy say. Y’know about not mashing, and he’s doing random uppercuts, so stop trying combos that are easy to drop, especially online.

If you are losing to mash srk, then start baiting it, good players aren’t going to mash them because they know how bad it is if you do that and don’t spend two bars to make it safe. Mash srk only works if you leave a gap in the combo string anyways.

I didn’t betray HDR, PS3 HDR betrayed me, and I got tired of it.

The real problem is that people are supporting it just because it is the new thing.

Even though it is really a mediocre game, why has it been so successful

I actually don’t have too much of an issue with mashing because I’m a cautious player, but that in itself is the problem. I rely on simple punish techniques and my ONE basic Akuma BnB combo for everything. I’ve been afraid to experiment given his low health and the randomness of online. The only safe combos are ones that have a string of jabs, otherwise you’ll be open to random reversals. Even the simplest player can mash out, for example: j. hk> cr. fp > haoudken > super with Ryu. And again, that vastly inferior Akuma player beat a decent enough Cammy. It happens more often in IV than anywhere else. When I speak about this its just the general experience of it all, and I pretty much play both HDR and IV almost daily. The evidence is undeniable (to me, at least). As for PS3 HDR? Yeah, it blows. I got it for free, played for a few hours, went back to XBL. I had an idea of using it as a way to train while remaining anonymous… Didn’t work.

Heavenly,

No worries at all. My apologies for jumping to conclusions and reading too much into your comment. I find as I get younger, I get crankier :stuck_out_tongue: Yea, it’s unfortunate that practically no one has anyone in their city or remote area to play offline with. You play a solid claw so it would be awesome if you were able to make it out to a Bay tourney next year. Anyway, off to Vegas!

Incorrect, because of different hitstun and blockstun, some combos are unsafe on block.

That is one of the reasons you only see jabs and shorts, nothing else has enough blockstun

So now you’re a robot who ages in reverse?

Thats perhaps what sucks most about it: they pretty much force you to play hit-confirm-fighter style.

Big problem on SSF4 is where is the competition at. You need a scrub and trash player filter. It is so boring to go 50-0 in endless against bad players so I really like the new option to remove people from the room. Also you can remove laggers. HDR needed this option. There is bad that comes with it but the good out weighs the bad.

I have been working hard to clean up my act. Games aren’t as fun that way but I guess you can now get credit if that even matters. I don’t ragequit ever anymore as a joke and am trying to keep the bad mouthing down to a minimum. I try to avoid using the headset now. It is annoying the amount of hate players give when you remove them from a room because they have no chance of winning and I have to hold in trying to fight back with them.

Not necessarily, most hitconfirms using lights in IV are also blockstrings. The only reason mash dp works is if you drop a link, in which some cases some lights do have to be linked.

Just as an example fei’s cr. lp x2 xx rekkas, the two cr.lps have to be linked. If you drop that link(and don’t chain) it is no longer a combo, if you don’t drop the link then it is a combo.

Mash dp only works if you leave a gap in your string, so…

A. don’t do blockstrings that have gaps, or be able to do your links.

B. Like both said in that video, when you realize someone is mashing dp, then give them an opening and punish for 30% of their life.

Cammy can hitconfirm off of cl.hp, but in tight punish situations the startup eliminates that option. She could do divekick into cl.hp xx whatever, but doing lights also gives the opportunity to tick throw.

I suppose this is like trying argue evolution in a church of course you guys are gonna disagree.
