SSF4 Tier List Thread REBOOT Super + AE (Updated: 02-01-09)

yo mike can you link some oni jap vids? havent seen any really.

also viper definitely has the ability to be top 10. i mean fuck she got 0 nerfs and a buff that really means nothing (u2 hitbox). shes the same. retarded damage, insane momentum based mixups, shit footsies/normals/buttons but really doesnt need them as her other tools make up for it. high barrier of execution as well but this doesnt mean anything since it takes maybe 4 hours total of hard training mode to be consistent with all of her shit. like the hardest personally is meterless fadc and being clean with feints/seismo chains.

theres a mirror on first, but at about 5:25 theres a decent match. not the highest level of players, but good enough to give you an idea of the potential

also you could check out the dudes channel. theres a bunch of oni and e.ryu sprinkled in there

SSF4 AE details on balance, version select & Spring Fighter stream : News : EventHubs.com

S-Kill and Sabin on stream. Sabin asked S-Kill to clear up a bunch of AE/Super nonsense.

-No new trails for Super characters
-The replay channel is for Super as well, not just AE
-**No Super vs AE. Its AE vs AE and Super vs Super. You pick your mode of play(AE or Super) from the beginning. **
-NO MORE BALANCE CHANGES, its a straight port of AE. Yun will still blow up you for free in the comfort of your own home.

Well that’s a relief. So people who don’t buy the DLC will still have the balance changes, and everyone can play Super if they feel like it.

Best possible scenario, after all.

I watched those a few days ago. It was brutal watching that Rufus massacre all those Evil Ryu’s lol. I was hoping to see some good Evil Ryu play. A couple of those guys seem decent but they’re also hella random with with unsafe DP’s and Ultras. And when it wasn’t Rufus, it was Oni finishing them off with air raging demon.

It’d be nice if we could see -6’s or Kindevu’s Evil Ryu in action to see how good he can be when played by top players. He’s probably high mid at best, but at least still very viable for tourney play.

No cappo, no down-lo’.

As I see it.

The hardest thing with Viper is learning how to defend properly.

I have yet to see a viper player that knows how to block and the sad part about it is the character is so derp that you don’t need to. Just watch any video of wolfkrone, he never blocks and the guy is winning tournaments (same as gamerbee with adon because of his broken wakeup)

Viper just makes doods salty as fuc. I see more people walk away from playing her upset more than any other character including akuma. Part of the issue is not many people get to play solid vipers often enough.

My name is viper and I can dash in and ex seismo so don’t press buttons son…

Even Fuerte? Then again, not that many Fuerte players out there.

In all honesty, I feel a lot of the complaints toward characters like Viper are from people that simply do not calculate risk vs. reward and their opponent’s options.

Viper has a very varied wakeup game, where blocking actually isn’t her best option. Her risk:reward ratio is much better if she wakes up doing something. Look at how many ultras are landed here during during wakeup situations

It doesn’t help that half a dozen characters can unblockable her either, which gives her even less incentive to block on wakeup.

Gamerbee blocks more on wakeup in AE, or in super when the opponent knew the timing for Adon’s wakeup. If the other dude doesn’t know how to adjust to your character’s wakeup time, abuse it. I wouldn’t start blocking till people stopped getting hit by wakeup low jab.

Don´t get me wrong, I´m not complaining about viper being good or bad. I´m just saying the character is absurd and her gameplay revolves around luck and herp derp I can´t block.

Other luck relying characters took a big hit in AE (Abel, El fuerte), yet viper remains the same which is stupid.

Doing random shit on wakeup hoping to have luck and get the momentum/ultra should NEVER be the best option in a fighting game, and for viper it is.

Gamerbee didn´t even block against the best players in the world, he is a very very good player but his defense is horrible and adon is a big part of his success in that regard. He will be even better in AE when he will have to block. Most viper players could never play another character and have half the success because they don´t know where the down back direction of their stick is.

Or they’re complaints from people who just think her play style is absurdly stupid. Mix up characters are dumb, but I’ve gone into detail about this too many times so I won’t repeat myself.

Kind of ironic how Rufus, Akuma, Ken, and Abel are listed as your characters, but whatever. The only one of those who is pure mixups is Abel I suppose. As you were.

Yep, some of the characters I play have absurdly stupid play styles. I don’t play these games where I just insult characters that I don’t like or play. I just call it like I see it and after playing a shit load of mix up characters over the life span of SF4 I see how stupid they are. Great argument bro, too bad it fell flat on its ass.

Which is why I didn’t get overly hostile about it and said as you were, implying there wasn’t any resentment or hostility. Curse tone and inflections impossibility to convey via text.

Not really true. Chars like Ryu have safe jump OS that beat (or trade favourably with) anything she does on wakeup except blocking or Focus Backdash.

I´m not talking only on wakeup, but still she can blow up OS´s with EX seismo cancel and then punish with obscene damage. It´s a fact that viper is most effective played random than solid, and that´s stupid.

ex seismo cancel loses to os DP. Loses to a lot of os’s actually. I os against it with Blanka using cr.strong. It’s good, but it’s only one tool.

Also Viper isn’t really random. If that was the case the Vipers with the best execution would be winning the most. She generally has to play solid to get an initial knockdown, and play smart to get an advantageous position if you happen to block correctly.

Most Viper tournament players I’ve heard of on these forums have solid alts.

As against any mixup-based char, not understanding what’s going on in the opponent’s mind make it seem really random.
