SSF4 Tier List Thread REBOOT Super + AE (Updated: 02-01-09)

In a defensive nerfed game…Viiiiiiippperrrrr Chris Hu voice. gdlk

Nope. More free on wake up now actually and laughable reduced damage on U1 combo. Only new tool is some force stand combo-ability. So maybe some more RU loop stuff. Just a solid character tho.

I do think Rufus/Dhalsim/Dictator may be fighting pretty hard for a few of those spots.

Chun also got some worse hitboxes. The df.lk kick got severely nerfed I believe, making the Zangief matchup (specially with his fullscreen SPD) probably in his favor.

Also, hasn’t Ibuki’s vortex changed/been removed? I remember reading that she lands farther way from the opponent after a neckbreaker knockdown. She also had her stun output nerfed, although I consider that a buff for vortex oriented characters.

I can maybe see Oni being top 10, because he has Gouken-like damage output paired with better, very solid normals, best reversal in the game, assuming his DP is a regular 3 frame one, and room for some shenanigans with slash (specially if you can frame trap people to not mash between it) and crossup air tatsu. But Evil Ryu looks bad, can’t think of a reason to play him over Akuma, unless of course you dig the character.

Also his far standing jab whiffs on crouching characters, making the Abel match-up just a bit harder. Still, pretty solid character overall, if not top 10, then definitely top 15. Of course, this is all Theory Fighter HD Remix.

How can Oni’s DP be the best reversal in the game when he can’t FADC it on block?

cammy still seems pretty strong - gief, viper, adon are all top 10 material or around there

e.ryu is meh from what I’ve seen/played of him - he’s okay but not great, his damage output is crazy though.

oni is ???

charge characters suck in AE - maybe boxer/dictator are still good but the rest seem kind of weak

the super mentality still applies - any character can win and everyone except yun/yang has a well known set of good/bad matchups and people are already figuring out counters to the twins

I meant “best reversal” in the game as a general reference to Shoryuken, but that’s a valid point.

with e.ryu, im seeing akuma with slightly less emphasis on vortex, and more comboability.

akuma may end up being better, but that dosent make e.ryu not strong

i really think Gen can be top 10 in AE.
just wait.

I would say Abel before any of those three

Everyone saying that charge characters suck in AE obviously haven’t played good players of those characters. Guile is still annoying as hell to get in on (and he fights the twins well), DeeJay is also annoying to get in on (and he also fights the twins well), E.Honda is still very annoying to approach when he’s holding down back, Balrog and Blanka can turtle EXACTLY the same as they always could and Chun Li and Vega still have crazy good pokes.

I was playing AE yesterday and Dieminion played his Guile against Zak Bennetts Yun and made it look in Guiles favour. Zak even said Guile does well against him. Charge characters are far from rubbish in this game, I don’t even know why that statement has been stated =/ but they’re still very good.

They’re not rubbish. They’re just not as strong as they used to be in SSFIV.

I just noticed he was missing from that list, a good point, I would put him on par with Rufus.

yeah, its debateable.

as much as people were arguing the balance of the game the last few pages, there are still a lot of really good characters.

you could probrably make an argument for 15 characters in the game as to who is sitting right outside that top 4. that means that half of the characters in the game are in really good shape. and the rest arent that far behind

I think Dictator is the strongest remaining charge character. His offense and defense are as good as they always were, his only downside is a lack of a reliable anti-air from close range and low damage output.

People want to fit 20 chars in the top 10 spots, that’s a pretty good sign of balance.

The twins will definitely have some bad matchups (Gief and Sagat come to mind, at least).

Why people keep saying super was a defensive game when the top 3 are mostly rushdown/lockdown characters and none of them is a charge character?

because charge charcters and defensive characters in general, really did well against most of the characters who were lower on the tier list

in AE they dont dominate low tier characters because of the various nerfs to them, and buffs to low tiers

also, the more casual players see the amount of thought that goes into most movements in high level sf4 and pass it off as boring to watch on youtube

they will think the same thing about AE unless there is a dive kick character on the screen

Honda, Balrog and Bison are considered Top characters as well, aren’t they?

Yeah charge characters are still good.I dont think anyone can say all the nerfs they got were deserved though(jumping over a sonic boom and landing a counter hit on Guile is a bit much).Thats why I think people are reacting this way.Even with the nerfs the charge characters can still hold their own and use the same strategies they used in Super.
