It could also imply Japanese players prepare for tournaments where counterpick is allowed. I cannot wait for mago’s Fei+Sagat and Uryo’s Viper+Sagat.
I dislike this post for one reason and one reason only. You don’t need some random “high level” Japanese player to “show” you how to play your character. I play Cody (as you know) and there’re no high level Cody players to “show” me how to play him (even though I know perfectly fine how to play him). I find things out by myself, I’m probably doing things no other Cody players are doing and finding things no other Cody players are finding.
The problem with having a high level player to watch videos from is lack of creativity and originality of the players watching. You end up trying to mirror their gameplay without thinking about why, how, when etc. When you find things out for yourself you create your own style and that’s when the beasting begins. Not taking anything away from watching top players however. You CAN learn a lot if you understand why they’re doing certain things.
i agree with ice for the most part, but tier lists are mostly popular opinion. so unless you are out winning tourneys or popping up in shinakuma’s youtube page, it will be hard to get people to agree that your character is better than people think
No you got it wrong. I don’t mind people not realising my characters potential, that’s doesn’t bother me. They’ll find out in due time. The UK have a top Cody player so they can tell you what Cody is capable of. I DO mind, however, people relying on other top players to show them how to play their character. I picked up Cody and learnt to play him myself, I’m not saying that’s the way it should go or anything but it seems everybody just relies on videos, instead of experimenting and finding things themselves.
The tier list thing is quite annoying though. Especially because most of the people that argue against Cody, have no clue what he’s capable of.
The problem I think we have now is that trying to discuss tier lists for a game most of us haven’t even played yet is questionable at best. I think this thread should be rebooted again in a few months after we’ve had some time with AE on our home consoles.
I understand what you’re saying, I would never be one to go and tell people to mirror some top players playstyle. Wildcat for me was the inspiration in showing me what Hakan could do, I didn’t go setting about to imitate his every move however. I’m not watching him to show me how to play my character, im watching him to see what techniques and strategies he’s employing, seeing how these guys play can give you an insight into what you’re doing right/wrong. All I was saying is that in AE, we aren’t able to really figure anything new out yet since there’s hardly been any hakan footage… I don’t think anyone was saying anything about watching top players and trying to copy them. Thats not how I’ve went about it anyway. It’s okay to take inspiration from these players.
I’m on the same boat as you in terms of trying to have my own style, and doing well with it. But I’ll always be watching the top players and looking to see if there’s any new things, i don’t think theres anything wrong with that. If you just want to learn on your own thats fine too, everyone has their own methods, but I think learning from the best is good IF you don’t try and straight out BE them.
oh, im not saying rely on top players to teach you or anyone else how to play. thats just silly
im just saying that most people wont believe you or anyone else without a top player showing everyone what may have known from the beginning
Nah, people are riding Japan’s dick too hard cuz of the rankings. The rankings in AE are not the same as vanilla rankings. The twins got the power but they bleed too. The top 50 is more diverse with the rest of the roster percentage wise even with all the twins compared to vanilla rankings with mostly Sagat and one handful of characters.
The dive kicks are strong in the sense that they force a lot more of that pressure. But it’s not like their jumping normals beat out everything cough like O.Sagat j.MP or forever tiger knee trap you into the corner and die.
I do wanna play you…sent you a pm a few days ago…
Oh yeah! Sorry dude, it’s just I haven’t been on my xbox in ages lol. I’ve been playing AE and offline lol, I’ll add you today but I won’t be on until tomorrow maybe.
@HNIC Mike- Oh okay, I understand what you’re saying now lol. Yeah that’s true or unless I win some big tourney.
No problem man, I also haven’t had much time to play lately, but if you add me i’m sure we’ll meet sooner or later, heheh! Thanks!
Think the same thing will happen to the Twins?
Then again, the same thing can be said for every single character in the game.
I trust the AE rankings more than the Vanilla ones because the players in Japan have had a lot more time with the game.
Over time I expected the number of Yuns to go down as people learned the matchup, and I was right. There aren’t as many Yuns in the top 50 as there were a while back.
Surprisingly, Dictator has shown up to be a very strong contender in AE (now that Guile, Honda and Chun-Li are no longer threats). You must respect the roundhouse.
has chun really got that much worse?
no. she got the same damage nerfs everyone else got and presumably 2 new bad matches
I know Nemo dropped her, said she was “boring in AE”. Yun’s dropkick wasn’t too kind to Chun in 3S, I can’t imagine its that much better in AE.
lol. too much sexy offence going around to throw kikokens and play all patient.
after seeing some japanese oni and e.ryu, they look damned strong. like top 10 material for sure
yun
fei
yang
akuma
e.ryu
oni
sagat
makoto
ken
rog
no particular order
Any opinions on ibuki’s placement in AE?
Really?
I wouldn’t place them that high personally. I think they’re B tier at best. They would be top tier if they had a vortex like Akuma. And I’m pretty sure Ken is stronger than both of them.
I’m also surprised to see you put Balrog in top 10. Is he really that much better in AE?
not really, but its between him and bison for that 10th spot IMO.
also i said no particular order. but who else is gonna be ahead of them in the rest of the cast
mid tier at best. its like she needs to be all the way in getting a knockdown, or running away attempting to zone with kunai’s. her normals arent really frightening enough at mid range.
scary as hell if she gets that knockdown tho
