This is all I was trying to say.
What changed between Guile and Fei in AE? Is it just damage? There doesn’t seem to be anything between the two characters that would indicate that Fei still doesn’t lose this matchup.
In Super, Daigo made Mago look free. To the point where Mago had to choose Rog first, cause he knew it was going to be bad.
Guile got almost everything nerfed - meter gain, special and ultra damage, making ultra 2 one of the most useless ultras in the game.
Fei got buffed even more than he was in Super. Do the math.
Yeah, but it wasn’t like Guile was relying on U2 or flashkick damage to clutch Fei out. Less meter for flashkick FADC is the only thing I can think of that would be a problem, but is that enough to change a losing matchup for Fei? That was kind of the question.
Fei’s changes don’t seem particularly helpful for this matchup either.
Actually Fei is a template for what “should” happen to every character from start to finish.
A character who gets tweaked ever so slightly without getting their balls chopped off at any given time.
What then happens is they become a character that is so balanced , in the hands of anyone good they seem over powered - read Mago.
Fei is not even close to God Tier, he’s just deadly in the hands of someone who knows how to play the game.
I would love to see an incarnation of SF4 at the peak of each characters strength, but
Capcom seems hellbent on everyone getting a shot at the top.
You’re crazy. Even Mago himself acknowledged in an interview that Fei was dumb powerful and had a huge advantage on the whole cast right now except Balrog, Honda, Bison and Blanka.

Fei has a huge advantage over Blanka.
i havent played AE, but its probrably still a bad match. feis addition of jab sweep will help him apply pressure more regularly, but not enough to stop guile from winning. guiles second ultra is probrably a bad choice against fei anyway, so nerfing it didnt affect that match in a bad way for guile.
IMO, it was 6.5/3.5 for guile in console super. it may have shifted to a solid 6-4. that score may be debateable, but no way fei wins now
mago says otherwise in a more recent interview. y’know since his word is gospel and all. he said fei basically loses to every charge character. im more inclined to think its 5-5
you guys are like extreme opposites. the truth lies somewhere in between. fei is better than the mid tier character highland sees, and is less powerful than the SSS tier character vulcan sees
I honestly don’t know much about those two characters as I don’t use either. I was only reporting what Mago said. And he says he has a hard time vs Blanka players.
But yeah according to Iplaywinner’s tier list, you’re right. Blanka is 4-6 vs Fei. But it’s still arguable like any matchup.
Tier lists are very hypothetical theories. And they’re only true until proven false. If some Blanka player convincingly beats Mago in a tournament, then people will say it’s 6-4 for Blanka.
If you just break down each stage of the matchup Blanka loses every single one. Not by a lot, but it adds up over time.
Fei wins in footsies.
Blanka has bad corner defense if you know how to option select against ex rainbow.
Fei’s pressure on knockdown is hard to deal with because he can punish your reversal on hit, and you are vulnerable to command throw if you just block.
Blanka can’t safely pressure Fei’s wakeup with anything but safejumps(which aren’t ambiguous), because everything else loses to DP or Chicken Wing.
Blanka has little comeback factor, Fei has airtight defenses.
Fei long is also one of the few who can punish horizontal balls in super. Hop kick shenanigans can only get you so far…I think it is in Fei’s favor, but still a very annoying matchup that you have to play patiently.
Actually normally spaced balls can be punished by most of the cast. Well spaced balls fei can only punish with super.
without meter vs. normally spaced balls:
Abel
Adon
Balrog
Blanka
Cammy
C.Viper
Chun
Cody
Dhalsim
Dudley
Honda
Fuerte
Fei
Gen
Gouken
Guy
Hakan
Ibuki
Juri
Dictator
Makoto
Rufus
Sagat
Seth
Claw
That doesn’t really put him in exclusive company, and I’m probably missing a character or two, I almost forgot kara TU.
I’ve seen that interview. I honestly don’t know why he said that. Maybe he just finds the match annoying, but as Veserius pointed out, Blanka loses every aspect of this match. There’s not much Blanka can really do except focus fish or nj hk to catch random rekkas, buffer jab xx ball during footsies (or punishing bad rekkas - won’t work if Blanka’s cornered), or score a random hop that won’t even necessarily lead to damage (this is really a last resort, and usually only works against focus happy opponents).
To me, the match feels somewhere between 7:3 and 6:4 in Fei’s favour.
And correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the Blanka Balls even more punishable in AE?
i may not be good enough in that match to give an accurate score, but fei has a hard time with characters with a strong turtle game. lame beats fei. not disagreeing with you guys tho.
everyone can punish hp/mp balls, yeah.
Also yeah, Blanka can lame a lot of his bad matchups out(Fei/Rog/Bison/etc.), but that still requires perfect play for a long while. Fei can work his way in, and start with overheads/well spaced rekkas/etc.
The problem is getting that initial life lead is hard.
hilariously easy to punish. there isn’t a single character who can’t land big damage on a blocked blanka ball now. i hate the character so i just laugh whenever i take a good 200-300hp off him for throwing it out.
coward tastu from ryu also makes me laugh. it’s hilarious watching the ryu’s who are so used to a free out slowly float down into my combos
want to know what else is funny? yun. LOL
im finally starting to see why he’s so damn good. a person at my arcade i usually wail on walks in starts using yun and gives me a run for my money. definitely made me raise an eyebrow
safer than a military base embedded in a mountain and more offensive than a rapist with rabies
Yeah, Marn’s Yun just dominated AE section at Guard Crush today. Like, it wasn’t even close.
Art: So Marn, about Yun: bullshit, right?
Marn: Bullshit
Art: ArtLaugh Yo shoutouts to Capcon, Ono on blast
well they nerfed zoning/defensive play-styles and then threw in 2 characters with extremely high damage output as well as every offensive and most defensive options available to them.
also please keep in mind that that interview was literally like, a month after AE dropped - it took a little time for people to develop Yun/Yang but I think if you asked them all again, everyone would agree Yun and Yang are the best.
He had to counterpick darth arma’s evil ryu with dudley after losing with yun though.
