Sagat also won the first Godsgarden (offline) tournament.
and he was definately #1.
19 of the top 50 ranked players used Sagat, the closest behind that was no more than 5 or 6. That ratio was consistent from the beginning of vanilla arcade life right the way through to AE.
care to elaborate? I never thought hakan was unplayable but I never thought he was really all that good - he can win but I don’t think we’ll see too much of him.
Because in Super, if Hakan could stay oiled or created the time to oil, Hakan was a really decent character.
With all the buffs he got, and the ability to be oiled at will. Look at Makoto, a few buffs here and bam she is suddenly A tier Material. Hakan has a good high, low, OS, anti block, unblockable set up wake up pressure game, and from what ive seen a good offensive game. Plus very good, but i mean extremely good normals which sets up a good defensive game (Command grabs are a natural defense tool by default as well). Although I keep reading his unoiled SPD game is very weak. But players like Wildcat make dry Hakan really good as well. In short Hakan had more in Super than Makoto, and in AE Hakan got more than Makoto.
When palyers like Daigo and Mago talk Hakan being absolute shit I dont take notice because the probably don’t spend more than an hour with that character. the same cannot be said about the majority of their list regarding the best though.
If you read the Hakan stuff you’ll easily see he has a lot of great things going for him. All Hakan needs is more exposure. I remember reading that Hakan may be the best grappler in AE according to Ultra David and the best Hakan player in the world said Hakan can be top 10 in the game easily. And according to the recent tier list Zangief is top 10.
You probably aren’t going to see much exposure though, I hear he is extremely complicated so you wont see him being used until later in the game when people get tired of using their own character. Easialy a secret top tier character in AE like Cammy or Honda was in Vanilla.
RF is arguably the best performing SFIV player in japan when it comes to majors and guess what character he uses.
2nd to Iyo in capcom sfiv 1v1 nationals
won sbo 2010 with kindevu and momochi
won capcom sfiv 3v3 nationals with kindevu and momochi
Maybe Kindevu is better since he was top 4 in the first Capcom SFIV nationals and I think him and Momochi got to at lease the second round of Sbo 09. Not sure where RF finished in that.

There are maybe 2 sagats in the world who could have a claim to say that he was slightly too strong for the game. America and europe didnt even get to the level japanese sagats where at during the whole time he was supposed to be broken. Not one tournament in UK won by a sagat, neither in America. again another situation where people who dont even play the game at a high level talk and talk and talk.
These guys pasting RF and Mago and Bonchan and going "LOOK HOW OVERPOWERED SAGAT IS " need to stfu and for one reason only. Rf bonchan and mago would destroy every american or european player I know ( barring say 2 ) using vanilla sagat or super sagat or AE sagat. Dont judge a character by who uses him.
If vanilla sagat stayed exactly the same till now in AE fei long would be a better character then him and Akuma would still beat him , as would Ibuki , dudley , and super guile probably.
So… Mago says that Sagat is by far the best character in vanilla SF4… I assume that’s good enough for you? Bon Chan says Sagat is top tier in AE and he’s received heavy nerfs since Vanilla.
You’re an idiot dude. That’s some of the realist talk I can say. Here’s your argument in a nutshell:
Noone on SRK can say that Sagat is overpowered because they’re nobodies that haven’t done shit.
Oh, top Japanese players? Well, they can’t say it either because they’re so good that it doesn’t matter who they play.
Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!
Just accept that Vanilla Sagat was really fucking good compared to the rest of the cast and stop crying about it. Very few characters can get “accidental” wins. If Sagat mashes DP and he trades, free f-rh + Ultra no meter. If Sagat hits, FADC into f-RH + Ultra. If it’s blocked, dash backwards and resume zoning. If they get close, put them in the safe tiger knee string. If they get far, throw Tiger shots. Did they neutral jump a fireball from 3-4th screen? Kara-uppercut FADC f-RH into Ultra.
What would it even take for you to accept Sagat was really strong in vanilla? There’s no point of you being in this discussion if you’re just going to make an argument and then disregard anyone else’s opinion.
 whoa whoa whoa I only posted that where I thought nobody would read it ahahaha
my only comp is Trini in MTL. he’s probably better but I beat him in some mirrors online the other week. that makes me better, right?
also SmokeMaxX with the logic bomb, hell yes. great delivery too… the real facts mixed with just the right amount of condescension
