im not just talking about fei. he can be in the top group. to me, there are about 10 characters who are all pretty much equal, and yes, i think fei is in that group
i just find it a little biased that each of them picks their own charcters to end up in the top 5. if any of those three were playing different characters in that top grouping, i almost feel that they would just flip that character into the top 5, and the others would agree because they are really strong players.
obviously they wouldnt play bad characters, but can anyone really make the argument that fei for example is definatively better than characters like balrog or chun. they all have different strengths and weaknesses but its not like any of them are steam rolling thru a bunch of matchups that dont involve the low tier characters
this game is way too well balanced to be able to throw out definative numbers 1, 2, and 3. and it looks more like it boils down to who is using what character in the top group
if i had to make a list there would maybe be 4 different groups, and there would be no particular order within those groups
on a side note, i havent mained fei in about 5 months
Fei is too good in ae, and ae is about holding forward not downback. If you play a turtle character you are fucked. If you rushdown then you are gonna love this game plain and simple. If your playstyle revolves around not blocking then you’re gonna love ae too
Fei is definitely top tier and most/all Fei players agree as we haven’t seen any wall of texts from Fei mains defending why their char is mid tier like in the ssf4 thread
eh, whatever. im sure most of the people in the fei forums think he is in the top group, just not a definative best in the game like most of the people who either dick ride japan or dont know the matchup
Darn it, I wish you would’ve replied to my last post. I’ve been thinking- the best way to get a quick breakdown of all of a character’s weaknesses is to claim that that character is top tier. Then everyone who plays that character will start explaining why that character sucks haha.
Isn’t that what people were complaining about in the first place? That sf4 was too defensive… So crapcom first add a slew of new rush down characters. Oh, you think they suck? Ok lets nerf defensive characters OR make them more offensive. Get what you wish for i guess.
Evans even said his new jabs mske him almost overpowered. Anyway most dissenting opinions come from either subpar players or people who have yet to play ae. And the places that do have it are behind in the metagame compared to japan due to less players. That was expected to happen though
I’m not ready to say fei is the best but compared to super he’s really good. His small jab buff is huge. Charge characters don’t give him as many problems as before either. He’s not a pick up and play character though obviously
I don’t understand how ae nerfs defensive options when the offense is mad good now. Should have left defensive options in there while buffing offense up but oh well.
A game that rewards offense is much more fun and interesting to play than a defensive game. I approve of every single change Capcom has made in AE. Even Zangief’s light SPD, the suction grab of destruction.
If Fei is #1 I can accept that. I still think he has trouble against Balrog, Bison and Akuma though. Also whenever I flip on tournament streams I never see Fei Long ever, so either he’s not reliable as a tourney pick or it just takes too much time to learn how top tier he is.
For those crying about your precious charge characters, Bison is still great in AE so pick him up. Oh wait, he doesn’t do ridiculous damage or have a piss easy anti-air? Guess I won’t be seeing THAT switch, especially online.
A game that rewards offense or defense to much isn’t a good game. When mixups are so strong that people would rather evade than block something, because the mixups are that good across the board, then something seriously wrong.
Fireballs and zoning (this includes charge characters) have always been at the core of street fighter from a gameplay standpoint. Sf traditionally is about spacing, positioning and pressing positional advantage. Games like sf3 series (and now ae) deviate from that core facet of gameplay due to system changes nerfing zoning play in general.
Wish capcom would make a game like st/a2 where rushdown and zoning can live in harmony but
I guess that’s too difficult
About fei, it takes a while to get him to mago status so you won’t be seeing him picked across the board. Poster above me sounds really bitter at charge characters from the last game though
I do not think SSF4 is a game where you can have ridiculous offense and still win. I think they struck a good balance that slightly favors offense. Invincible reversals and backdashes haven’t disappeared. Neither has good teching.
When I watch AE videos or play at my local arcade, people aren’t going crazy on each other, rushing down mindlessly. But it’s probably true that thinking you can control 75% of the screen and all options from one position is gone.
Well, you live in a area that is traditionally known to turtle with the exception of dr chaos. Philly is generally a crew of wait warriors especially Josh wong who is one of the best over there
I have to lol at your “slightly favors offense” comment though. When people will do anything to avoid taking a mixup because it’s too dangerous to block, that tells me the game heavily favors offense. Watch the latest Nagoya street battle, you can see in most matches offense is so scary that people are actively moving, scared to take any mixup. Blocking for more than 5 seconds gets you killed.
There isn’t a character that can control 75% of the screen/options from one position in ssf4. If there was then said character would be the best due to a impenetrable wall but that was never the case.
I also didn’t say mindlessly rush down either lol. You’re right that invincible reversals and backdashes still exist. I see players using those tools more often now rather than take a mixup, cause generally it’s that dangerous
Personally I’m just going to chill out and wait til the DLC and the dust settles a bit.
Reading this thread is class though, fans are like a good wife, spend all year bitching about a new kitchen and you give it to them and then they spend all day bitching about that new kitchen.
On a side note I find it hard to believe Fei is S teir. His damage output & mix up game are both average and no combo into either Ultra. Not really the tools of a God Tier character.
