With adon it’s not so much adjusting your timing as it’s he gets a bunch of escapes for free because you don’t knockdown him long enough to safejump. Most common would be ryu sweep>jump. Doesn’t work, same with some other setups.
Adon wakeup will still be good in AE I think, he can still dash under, GTFO meaty crossups with ex rising jag (costs meter tho, but virtually unpunishable by some characters) he still has great autocorrect, etc. You’ll see less retarded things like “lets jab/neutral jump when waking up, WOOO it hit” which is fucking gay and even if I do it often I’m glad to see it go.
As for safe jumping 3f things, weren’t there a couple setups involving either far jumps or neutral jumps that worked as true safejumps because you make the DP reach you on the 4th frame? I don’t play characters that have one of those so I don’t know for sure.
Those are the hitbox safejumps dime_x was talking about earlier. A few characters have them. Bison/Guile/Fei do off the top of my head. Probably a few others.
a “fake” safe jump? Just because its early? Seems like the same safe jump principles are being applied here. Just a whole helluva lot tighter. You just need to land in time that your vulnerability frames have passed.
This could all just be semantics but if we were to use the definition that a O-S meaty timed appropriate can safe jump, then shotos aren’t 100% immune. I do admit the real world usage is fairly limited… at least i cant remember ever seeing it done in high level play but…
Now making a reversal whiff OR stuffing a reversal on a x-up after invincibility frames have ended are another story.
It’s exploiting the fact that the 3 frame reversals gain reach after the 3rd frame. Jumping at the right position around the tip of the Shoryus full reach means the first active “3rd frame” whiffs and then you can block on the following safe-jumpable frames.
I’m not disputing that Gen’s super was buffed, but that doesn’t make any sense if Gen’s Crane super is 1+0. It would catch the airborne attacking frame of a safe-jump, therefore making safe-jumps impossible.
Some of the Gen threads list it as 1+1 startup, which would make the super safe-jumpable, though. There seems to be a lot of contradicting information floating around.
DPs are safe-jumpable, just not in the common safe jumping way.
it’s either with an attack that’ll make the dp whiff coz your positioning. Take juri’s backthrow walk a bit then j.lk safejump, this works on all DPs even the ex ones. Reversal timing dps get stuffed, late DPs and autocorrects whiff coz juri is right above them.
The Other kind is safe jumps with Long range attacks, the only one I know of is vega’s backthrow>j.mp, which works on all DPs coz of j.mp’s range. Ryu’s super beats this cleanly though so it’s mainly a gimmicky safejump but it works on DPs.
on topic, do you guys think yun is going to maintain this best in the game look that he has early on?
he has a ton of options, and daigo plays him so he will have his gameplan fleshed out pretty quickly. just wondering if anyone sees any potential bad matches
cant fadc his DP? i think i might have seen a meaty low short make it whiff in a vid too. cant remember if it was yun or yang tho.
i know his normals dont look amazing, but they look serviceable. and dive kicks are like psuedo footsies or something.
think youre about to see a long range heavy normal, fuck whiff punishing, just dive at the recovery. and if you stay away from him, he just builds a bunch of meter. palm dosent even look like it has any recovery so you can punnish him for it
does makoto have anything that solidly beats reversals tho?
like how no one who knows what they are doing really tries reversals on viper (outside of a few characters)because of her multiple options thru feints and crossup/non cross up BKs
It helps that Makoto has a lot of long untech knockdowns, so you can safe jump off of almost anything.
If you really want to ignore reversals, there are some character specific OS, or you could just do a high-hitting Tsurugi on their wakeup which tends to avoid a lot of reversals (neutral jump HK tsurugi = delayed hit that avoids Shoryu for example)
There’s a lot of character-specific stuff like that scattered through the subforum.
