How do you guys deal with clammy hands? At WNF last night, during my second match, it was so stuffy in there, my hands were practically glued to the stick… It always messes me up

might be in dudley’s favour now with that ultra 1 buff. that thing is ridiculous. literally can’t throw a boom once he’s got it.

this is pretty much my exact thoughts as of right now. maybe its because i’ve been focussing a lot of my time to the new characters, but i’ve had this scenario happening a lot. i’m getting beaten worse than before by the ‘vortex’ characters like cammy and ibuki. i heard that there’s some kind of tech you can do with flash kick on her kunai game but i haven’t actually seen it in use.

This statement makes me angry. Guess how much red focus I saw this weekend at EVO? ZERO! with like, any character. I really don’t think red focus is going to do much for his defense(or offense). Guile’s meter is too important for other things and the situations where red focus would actually work is too rare to warrant a -50 health nerf.

Same exact answer I received when I asked Combofiend at ECT4.

The combined health nerf and Counterhit nerf couple that with the low stun kind of encourages opponents to come in aggressively and force trades with Guile. Knowing that they can stun him faster, it’s like now you have no choice but to hold down back and just guess right.

So far, all red focus has been is just that game mechanic that accidentally eats my whole meter if I mess up my input for regular fadc stuff. Ever since it was announced, my whole feeling is that you can’t hype a game mechanic as being beneficial to “defensive” characters (i.e. Capcom’s politically correct term for characters without the tools they need to be effective) when all other characters who already have the right tools at their disposal have access to those same mechanics. Rather than trying to come up with some blanket mechanic that they thought would enhance all these diverse characters in unique ways (which RF and DWU definitely don’t do), they needed to address each character uniquely based upon what they already can or can’t do. They keep trying to address the needs of the roster as a whole, but that does nothing when they’re not all starting from the same place to begin with.
Man, wasn’t Ultra supposed to be the ‘ultimate versions of every character to settle all arguments’ game? lol All along it should’ve been a philosophy of keep what it is that makes strong characters strong and give the lower and mid tiers the tools they need to be strong as well. The attempts at “balancing” have all been 1 step forward, 2 steps back fails.
Haha… guess I’m ranty knowing that I’m going to likely be dealing with more Roses than usual now.

When I drink my hands are less clammy! Certainly doesn’t help the reactions though. I see a lot of players carrying a towel around with them.

standing fierce hit confirm into red focus, ultra is great and all. but guile needs his meter for other shit. red focus isn’t even that good as a defensive option. it’s easy as fuck to blow up.

guile gets stunned soooo easily now too. meanwhile…rose has the same health as guile, fucking insane meter build and a strike/fireball invincible reversal, best back dash in the game (cept maybe chun), great pokes, along with a viable double ultra. in all seriousness, i’m no rose hater and i actually use her quite a lot, but why the hell does she gain half a bar of meter for one absorbed reflect?..thats absolutely ridiculous.

props to dieminion for getting as far as he did at evo by the way. i was impressed to see a guile anywhere near the top 32 this year.

Well, here is my post EVO thoughts on Guile in usf4.

Right off the bat, my foot is in my mouth. DWU just makes little difference. I think in general, Capcom made a lot of balance changes in accordance with everyone having DWU, and since it isn’t very useful, things are going to be wonky in this version. This isn’t even just a Guile thing either IMO.

Ultra is… unpolished; in a word. Everyone knows elena and rolento hurtboxes by now are wonky and the balance changes really do feel extremely untested and slapdash. If you saw my videos, you guys know I lost to a Gouken who was able to EX tatsu through booms at an absolutely insane range. I understand that tatsu had problems whiffing and thats why they buffed the hitbox, but, come on… the intention of that buff could not have been to go clean through projectiles at 1/2 screen. That’s nuts.

Guile himself is still just fine. I would say on par with AE2012 version. The c.mk buff is more noticeable the more I use it and the U2 juggle damage feels very rewarding as it should. Having df.hk hit more consistently is nice, and I’ve been doing a lot more testing on UDK > s.hp xx boom FADC > df.hk > flashkick (works on rose!). Guile’s current problems come in the form of little niggles and let downs. Hearing “hey kids! We buffed guile’s UDK hitbox! It will hit crouch techers!” and then having UDK still whiff on everyone is frustrating.

Okay, good to know I wasn’t just imagining this. I had no idea about this buff to Gouken, but I’ve had plenty of “Well that was interesting…” moments of getting hit by his EX tatsu at boom ranges I thought I was safe at.

I agree with you. It is ridiculous to nerf a character because of a mechanism every character has access to.

At EVO and even online, I barely seen anyone use Red Focus. Even when Snake_Eyez was aiming for a RFDADC into Ultra 1 in his Top 8 matches, he hardly had any chance to do it. He managed to do it once but unfortunately, it’s after he switched to Ultra 2 against Fuudo.

Capcom over-estimated the usefulness of Red Focus & Delayed Wake-up.

I also find ridiculous Rose can build a full Super meter in no time if someone try to zone her but Guile who try to defend himself against another zoner, he will only get like 1/4 of the Super meter. Since he only have 2 Specials, which both option suck (SB barely build & FK has too much recovery), he can’t use EX SB often to win fireball war or have a EX FK often to have a more reliable reversal.

To be fair, it is pretty early in USF4 for people to really get comfortable gambling with Red Focus reads. I think RFA potentially comes more into play when you have strong reads on your opponent developed over a long set of observing habits while in these sorts of tournament formats you don’t have as much time to pick up reads that you would be comfortable spending 2 meter on. That being said, I think EX RFA benefits to combo extension against Guile out-weigh defensive RF benefits for Guile which means the system change arguably hurts Guile more than it helps him. Of course Guile gets EX RFA combos too but they’re not going to happen very often. Extended combos on a Guile with lower health and unchanged stun is no fun.

What you can do with EX RFA, you can also do with just two meters. Especially if you’re looking to Focus Crumple off of a combo.

Sometimes I feel each version of SF4 from SF4 to USF4 is getting more retarded each time I hear of stuff that is mentioned here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they patched the game again later on down the track. I had some people tell me that Guile’s air throw range is BS.

I’ve anti aired with Guile’s airthrow before which felt really godlike but my opponent felt otherwise.

I get beat out by normals all the time when I try to air throw.

If you’re getting beat out then it means you’re waiting too long to airthrow your opponent.

Right guys I’m planning on going to a tournament end of August (VSfighting 4 in the UK) and I really want to do Guile some justice. Tears are for wimps!

Any training regimes, best things to focus on (or rather how to spend this time effectively in preparation) and any other advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
