SSF4 Gen Arcade Changes

405 for Mantis Ultra 1, 443 for Mantis Ultra 2, and 428 for Crane Ultra 2. If Crane ultra 2 ended up being comboable off Mantis super on everyone, would there be a reason to use the Mantis ultra 2? Other than EX Hands for certain opponents I can’t think of any real reasons.

I really wish they made mantis ultra 2 more useful. He already has 3 good ultras so I can’t complain much, but Shintenketsu stands out like a sore thumb because of it. Should at least do 510-520ish damage to put it on par with all the other top damage ultras like Raging Demon, I feel that’d make up for the focus damage. Mantis Ultra 2 being buffed one way or another and Crane Ultra 2 being faster, like it apparently is, were my two biggest wishes.

The hitbox buff of Shintenketsu hasn’t proven to be a great change as of yet, right? I was hoping against hope. Sounds like it can sort of be used as an anti air at least?

Least we got cool combos though. AE Gen looks so fun, and quite a bit stronger. Very hype.

It looks like Gen’s startup frames on alot of his attacks have been reduced, and definitely the recovery frames on most of his normals, even his focus attack seems to be dash cancellable earlier

Is this your experience from playing AE yourself, because this is very interesting if true…

Gen should be a goddamn footsie monster imo, and start up frame reducement would be great to counterhit pokes all day long, and recovery is even better to make things safer when in a midscreen footsie battle. Weird no one like Vanesco commented on this though, Im sure he would notice this heh.

hmm, like Warlike said if this is true then the Chun Li match-up just got a lot better

Not true! just (M) c.mp.

Hit box changes are probably the most noticeable. Like (M) S.HK. This beats out a lot of crouch pokes now!

Ok, watched Kani in the A-cho thread via IPW so I have a few questions based from extrapolated Kani tactics.

Mantis S.Mp ~C.Hk is this counter hit only or can this be done without counter?

Mantis S.Hk Looks really fast, I didn’t see it connect in counter but It looks like it could potentially combo(on counter) into another S.Hk or even sweep.

Anyone thought of, tried this yet?

Lastly Is Gen’s mantis jump faster? it looks faster than before, maybe it’s just me.

From looking at the videos only:
Can’t say about s.MP -> c.HK right now. Someone needs to test this, in console version it was possible with counter.
Mantis s.HK’s start-up looks same to me, seems to come out as fast as sweep.
Mantis jump is most likely not faster, at least in my eyes.

I still can’t see what crane normal changes were there. The changes are probably really specific and on a small scale.

i saw the vids hes talking about. its counterhit only. sometimes he would throw it out if it hit or not. the sequence frame traps on block and combos on counterhit

sMP > crHK would be fantastic, but that would mean that they sped up crHK’s startup or buffed sMP’s already huge frame advantage on hit

i dont think mantis sweep is gettin buffed more than in super… this move already has incredible range and pretty fast recovery (it was worse in vanilla)… on the other side its never going to do as much damage or being as fast as a shoto sweep… and i honestly dont think theyre going to make it better… of course it would be awesome

neither i think sMP is going to get more frame advantage on hit than +6… already huge for a medium hit

about mantis sHK… i was impressed mainly about its recovery, that really got better… still dont know about startup (same goes with mantis cMP) and priority… those things must be tested ingame to really feel the difference

yeah, gens sweep is pretty damned awesome. by far my favorite normal. whiff punnishes from everywhere. only 2 frames slower on startup to akuma, and 2 frames better on recovery

@Trapy

But Dan’s st.MP is +8 on hit in AE, and Gouken’s st.MP in AE can be linked into sweep . I wouldn’t be surprised if Gen’s st.MP became +7 or even +8 on hit, since he currently lacks in a +4/+7 or +3/+6 jab (imo +6 advantage is totally different from +5).

Not sure what you’re talking about in mantis st.HK’s recovery tho. That thing still looks the same besides the range, at least in the VS Chun video.

well you might be right and i’d be VERY glad if they really made it +8 so we can link sweep… that would allow tons of safejump setups… i’m not being too optimistic on this one though… guys who can play AE should try this out asafp

about sHK well… i must admit i had a bad memory about that, probably due to the fact that i never use it ingame… but well, i just tried it now and it doesnt seem to be as slow as i remembered ._.

Regarding the cr.lk cr.mk target combo, although it may be extremely obvious, but is this target combo super cancel-able? Regarding SSF4 history of retarded properties, but I guess if it is special cancel-able, it is highly possible for it to be super cancel-able.

I am extremely eager to outfootsie ryu against whiffed Cr.mk with this awesome target combo into super :D. Gen looks extreme badass.

Yes this is possible in super, cannot see why it would not be in AE

Been trying out Gen frequently since the release of AE and didn’t notice any change to his normals beside the (m) s.HK that was mentioned already. Maybe I missed something although I’ve been maining Gen since SF4.

I did feel that the damage for © U2 got nerfed though, anyone felt the same?

Interesting note about the super > © U2 on Rufus; I haven’t played any Rufuses yet with Gen but if I do I’ll ask them to test it, otherwise will try to go on a time when there aren’t many people (which is tough is it has been always crowded since release).

Overall though I agree Gen is more fun now, and for players who mastered his fundamentals in SF4 &/or SSF4 it’s going to be better playing him here. HP > MK target combo is that good, although my mind is still wired to play without it most of the time so I am trying to force myself to use it more.

i dont think this is so reliable, AE has been out for such a short time and gen is “”“new”"" in japan

anyway its funny gen had never appeared so strong in a tier list ranking

S - Yun
AAA - Dictator
AA - Ken, Viper, Abel, Gouki, Fei Long
A - Blanka, Guile, Dhalsim, Boxer, Sagat, Rufus, Gen, Cody, Ibuki, Yang
B - Ryu, Chun Li, Honda, Zangief, Claw, T.Hawk, Cammy, Sakura, Makoto, Dudley, Adon
C - El Fuerte, Seth, Gouken, DJ, Rose, Guy, Juri
D - Dan, Hakan

made in japan, but i dont know who personally made it
??? - SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV AC edition BBS

Very cool to see them put him in A tier. I wonder how long before they kick him down the stairs though.

EDIT: Also, this is partially unrelated, but I am completely sure Hakan is not bottom tier in AE.

what the hell. A tier gen. i thought id never see a public list that had gen that high

I don’t know, who even made it? Anyone can make a list. Anyways here’s another list, but this one is based on BP.

Yun

M. Bison (Dictator), Ken, Sagat, Fei long

I jsut saw that list on eventhubs and I was like PHHHH! How cfan they even have some sort of tier list yet when he game has been out less than a month. I know it’s based on BPs but that doesn’t mean anything right now.

I like the first list compiled but then again I’m biased to Gen right now. I Always thought he was underrated.
