I kind of agree with TCs being too easy…This will probably sound retarded but I enjoy the fact that I can play a hard character that requires a good amount of execution, and don’t like things being made easier. I like the TC’s because they will build meter and do damage, but I would’ve preferred the chains he had in alpha, which is basically like these Tcs except you’d do them manually and needed more timing (and you could freestyle combo, fuck yeah!). Oh well, still excited to see AE Gen though.
I agree, chains would be great, but I’m not sure they would transfer over to AE as good as the TC’s do. After playing AE for a decent amount of time now I feel the TC’s are better (and I was one of the chain combo advocates). Well the one TC is at least. they should have given him a TC that ended in s.RH. like c.lk, c.mk, s.rh. This way you would get a good damage push back combo, and sorta get the old Gen chain combo feel. I really am seeing almost no reason for TC 2. It was just Capcom letting us think we got more buffs than we really did. Haha!
As for still wanting the level of Difficulty! You will be managing well against the randoms, but when your in a room full of some of the best players in the country, Trust me, IT WILL BE D I F F I C U L T!!! More props to Nubb for handling his own!
I only see the TCs as more damage/meter building as well. In a way it was kinda what most of us wanted (more damage and meter) so the TCs kinda does that in package. I don’t think Gen is on easy mode now but at the same time getting more damage out of him will be easier. I too would have liked the chain combos but wouldn’t SF4 have to be faster? It’s no where as fast than the Alpha series.
Chains are a lot different in this game, like you said sf4 is much slower. The moves have to be fast enough, that’s why the only chains in this game are light attacks, they’re fast enough to be able to chain. Im not saying the Tcs are unwelcome, I personally would have preferred that they would up his damage/stun/meter build in general. Well atleast we have new combo possibilities to look forward to.
All I care about is meter and damage. Bring the TCs!
Ceiling drop Oga -> U2 Crane is possible now when it wasn’t before. I’m pretty sure it’s just because of its travel time, but I love this buff. In general, it’s just easier to hit U2 off of Oga.
However:
Crane U2 isn’t good for air to air unless you jump much later than them (in which case they can j.hk you on the way up… just not a good idea) or you’re punishing people running away . You’ll understand what I mean if you mess with it in AE. The timing is difficult because it travels the screen and reaches the ground so quickly.
I got some pictures in of s.mp’s damage, tc->hands, l3 focus-> s.mp->tc->gekiro, and l3 focus ->crane s.hp (to see which one was the max damage meterless punish). I’ll get them up tomorrow. I’m super tired right now
Some top Jpn players discussing AE Gen…
i red that interview too
i wonder why of all gen’s buffs, the cLK-cMK target combo was the only thing which impressed nemo :\
still waiting to see that TC properly used in a real match
Why would anyone listen to these so called top players of Japan, they don’t know anything about Gen in the first place, so take it with a grain of salt. Gen is getting some exposure in AE but before that he was really unknown in Japan, and he still is very rarely seen.
Funny how that interview mentions c.LK -> MK, cuz if it was the TC, he would’ve said c.LK -> c.MK like he did at the first time.

For some reason I believe his Crane U2 is faster in terms of start-up.
O yea, did his mantis standing jab always whiff on crouch-blocking Ibuki?
yeah. after she blocks the crouch short, a chained stand jab will whiff in console. maybe not every time tho. st.lp is wierd. ive had it whiff on bison before too
Makes me sick to see an ult still trade… usually more damage being done to gen. so sickening!
so was that guy going for and failing the tc into a link or something or was he just not going for it with that c.lk?
ceiling drop into tiega was possible on console but since tiega starts out so slow, you’ll have to do it on someone like dhalsim during his jump. i saw this on some combo video.
about crane u2 air to air:
can’t you jump back and do it a split sec later to catch them?
I’m talking about ceiling drop into U2 on standing opponents, like Dudley. I’m not talking about hitting them out of the air or super meaty.
Also, you’ll see what I mean about its air to air. Even in that case you’ll probably get stuffed by their jumping attack because of no invincibility. It’s still possible to air to air but the timing, height, and positioning is completely different. I’m still trying to get used to it.
I lurked onto the Japanese BBS again just now, and someone said Mantis Super -> back jump crane U2 worked on Rufus. Pretty interesting if you ask me, but would be hard to do.
i guess people would make everything possible in order to avoid that shitty mantis U2…
Yea that is interesting. since they manage to only hit Rufus one would guess this could be character specific, hm? I really would like test out.
If it works on Rufus it might work on characters with a big hitbox, possibly also has to do with the knockdown speed. Im interested in the damage on that though…
Very true…so I’m guessing it should apply to Sagat and Zangief too. Do you think the damage would be close to how mantis super into mantis U2 is, minus the gray scale?
Crane U2 does approximately the same amount(?) of damage as mantis U1 I believe, whatever the case I think the damage wont differ that much form any of the other choices like U1 crane/mantis. Still, it´s a cool option to have, and one of the reasons I love Gen so much is this flexibility in the choices you have in what (ultra) combos you do.
edit: I think crane U2 might do a little more damage than mantis U1, cant test atm.
