I specifically came to the gen forum to understand how are they making moves that are already cancellable, cancellabe??
I already use cr.mk xx hands, cr.mp xx hands for footsies.
Are they actually making Gen noob friendly? I’m not sure I like that.
I would think that most of these ‘newer’ names you see on the forum wanted or a were interested in maining Gen have read the changes and wanted to give some feedback. Some say it isn’t enough (Which most would agree with) and some have a wait and see approach. Needless to say the Gen forums were more of a ghost town with some idle comments and nothing more compared to Vanilla days. Perhaps these newer/returning players can help the Gen community grow stronger?
Gen is my favorite character. love his style and was disheartened when he was nerfed so blatantly. Everyone was talking about how good Gen was in vanilla and now he is obsolete. There were many Gen players here that jumped on the Gen bandwagon becuase of players like Yeb, jibbo, Asiantom, rhyllis who devoted so much time to Gen and did very well with him. They provided tutorials and info in Frame-data etc. Since super was released they seem to have went elsewhere and were animate about their dislike to the changes to Gen. So it seems everyone else jumped off the wagon.
Personally I liked the ideas that they had in super but it was implemented poorly.
It all sounds good but are we going to see this on consoles anytime soon? Why get excited about changes when we wont even see it till moths down the road?
Yet are they cancelable into Gekiro? i notice that sometimes when i try crouching forward to Gekiro it whiffs.
I can still pretty much beat whoever I need 2 with gen 80% of the time… so. I guess I just need to get better.
His new buffs fit nicely with how I’ve been playing Gen lately. I was not surprised by these changes at all. This is exactly what I expected. I am still expecting some of his crane normals to get buffs too.
With most, if not all higher tier characters getting damage nerfs, then Gen will survive longer in a match. This is as good as a health boost IMO. With the addition to his target combos, Gen will do a little additional damage to shorten the health margin even more.
I don’t believe they are claiming buffs that aren’t actually different, I think it has more to do with language barrier, and the Dev’s not articulating the true changes correctly.
I know someone has translated the info probably very accurately, but intentions aren’t translated as easy as the words they are using.
No matter what, Gen is going to be better than he was in Super.
“If you could make God bleed, people will cease to believe in Him. There will be blood in the water, and the sharks will come.”
Cheers!
Cancellable is cancellable. Just because it whiffs doesn’t mean it wasn’t cancelled it means it whiffed. The move still cancelled from one to the other. They didn’t say anything about it not whiffing after cancelling. And even if that’s the case, I still see little reason to do gekiro over hands. There’s a high risk if you screw up your gonna get punished where hands on block isn’t really punishable.
Play better opponents.
Iron Man 2!!
It’s just hard to look at the changes Makoto, Gouken, Sakura, and Hakan are getting. They are getting real buffs. REAL buffs. I’m willing to wait and see what really happens in AE, but again I don’t expect much.
I do have this impression though, that the dev team thinks no one plays Gen because he’s “hard to learn” and not because he sucks. So they focus more on making him easier to play? Well, I have to be honest, many people asked for target combos, and I still don’t really know why. We have them now.
My feeling is we may have shot ourselves in the foot.
I think the TC’s help alot. Especially Hp, Mk. this will hurn into a great frame-trap set-up from s.mp. plus the 1st hit of hp stands the opponent up. depending on how strict the timing is on cancelling the mk to lk gekiro, this could potentially be a way to get a 250 damage hit confirm combo and still maintain pressure.
I also like that you will prob be able to buffer 3 punches from the hp in the TC. ex; hp, mp, lp, lp+mk, hp will probably be an easy way to get mk hands now.
Plus, hp, mk, gekiro will be a great damaging punisher. and if you have meeter, hp, mk, super will be great damage.
I see nothing but potential with his changes. And I know there is a lot more ahead.
To be more specific, they asked for chains. And they were asking for Alpha Gen chains, not something like s.HP -> s.MK, which is impossible to do in Alpha.
Speaking of s.MP. They’d better make it have less pushback so blank range s.MP -> s.HP is possible on every character without having to jump in. s.MP -> s.HP xx s.MK xx LK gekiro could be a possible alternative to current s.MP -> s.MP -> s.MK xx hands, provided that s.MK canceled from s.HP will still deal 60 damage or so, and not some BS like 30 that persists in some character’s TC like Ken’s s.MP xx s.HP. O wait I think I already said this before.
I might laugh if c.LK xx c.MK TC can be reversaled in between on block.
IMO he should have no TC’s, other than Shakudan and all chains. I really hope they have more updates in store that aren’t already in the game. Next thing you know, they are going to tell us (M)s.MP, ©c.MP will combo now. Maybe something is lost in translation but what I get from the updates is this “Ryu has a fireball now”. Someone mentioned how we are being negative. I think we have every right to be negative. 1. we pay for the game. (yes we can choose not to play, but who really wants to stop playing a game they’ve played since they were 10) 2. we are the ones putting time and effort in learning the character and finding shyte out the developers didn’t even know was in the game. (Yes I realize they put more time into the game by developing it., but most games are buy and play, that’s it. Fighting games you have to learn so much about them if you even want to compete.) 3. At one point they said Gen didn’t turn out the way they wanted him, and wanted him more Alpha-like. He’s not even close to how he is in Alpha and I never even played him in Alpha and could tell you he isn’t even close. This pissed me off, they changed him because they said he wasn’t like he was in a previous game, yet when they do change him, he’s still not even close to that style. And turns out worse. I really want to see a Q&A with the group of developers that over sees Gen. I have some legit questions for them.
And I hope this all comes to DLC.
Alpha Gen had a fast Jyasen with long fireball invincibility without meter. CAN WE HAS THAT TOO!?
Alpha Gen’s ceiling jump straight down Oga was even on block. CAN WE HAS THAT TOO!?
Yea I can’t wait for DLC, it’ll decide where I’m going with him. I hope they removed his crane c.MK and gave a new slide that can go below most fireballs.
Even if they didn’t want to give him a slide but make it so he moved in closer similar to Gief. that way you can close the distance a lot faster.
Ah, even better… I would like to see © c.mk special cancelable. This would eliminate 99% of jump-ins.
The only special move changes Id like to see is;
lp roll safe on block, if not all rolls safe on block.
less charge time on roll and oga.
Gen should be able to crane jump hp, c.mp, roll easily. (Blanka can do toward mp, back lp, ball!)
And Jump HK, HK should put in Juggle state. At least if you only hit with the 1st.
sMP, sHP xx sMK xx Gekiro LK
sounds pretty cool for a meterless punish :L
This is probably the best explanation I’ve seen for the mess called Gen.
The most interesting thing about the TCs to me is that s.HP and s.MK both move Gen forward substantially. When s.HP takes a brief step forward, does that mean canceling into s.MK will make it start from the same advanced position? If so, I imagine s.HP, s.MK xx LK gekiro would connect at the very edge of s.HP range, or even potentially hitting someone’s outstretched limb.
Return of the old King?
for real. hope this gives them reason to go find new mains/drop ssf4 AE/get the fuck out with the bitch made-ness.
nothin personal, but if all the negative bastards can drop their 2 cents and get out permenantly, then maybe they wont poison the weak minded all the way up until super comes out. hopefully this preview will stop them from coming back and checking anything when the actual content is released. hhhmmmm…
seth did this on purpose. let the hate consume you. become one with the dark side
just read the changes. im as well dissapointed, TC are just from brainless players. So, now from doing hard links with gen
"S.MP, S.MP, S.HP (1st hit cancel) xx LK Gekiro" we are gonna have
"S.MP, S.HP xx S.MK xx LK Gekiro…"
…
Thanks Capcom… THESE DOESN’T CHANGE ANYTHING! we dont need TC combos for real.
What about his wake up game? Its so ass, all you can do is Ex-Gekiro on wake up or block its retarded.
Even if you land a Heavy Execution combo the scaling will make it useless.
These changes make me think Gen will be all about pokes and footsies now, s.lp all day and some situational mantis C.HP AA.
If i would like to play footsies, i would not play Gen believe me.
Im slowly dropping gen, have been trying a lot of other characters, have 10k bp with Adon, Guy, Hakan, Gen and soon Akuma.
I miss the times when everytime i did C.HK (Mantis) sweep after a juggle and i did decent damage, i told to myself “This isn’t alpha Gen but im starting to like it!”, Then read about MK>Hands combo and practiced the shit out of it until i got it down in Vanilla.
I hope they forgot to mention some damage buffs.
dosent chun only have ex-sbk, backdash or block too
theres like 10+ characters who can either block or do a non FADC ex move
