SSF4 AE Zangief Changes, Videos, Match-up Discussion

I hope they give exgh knockdown again and I don’t see how they won’t nerf the lp spd range everyone compains about it. I just want super gief back with the changes to u2 from ae left in and I would be happy.

Rgb has to be there it would be like getting rid of srk’s for ryu.

Sunswipe you kicked me yesterday do you hate the mirrors that much bro xD.

I did? I always kick out red and yellow connections so our connection was probably bad Grimm. And yes I can’t explain how much I hate the mirror match.

It was the usual yellow.

We don’t use it. And no amount of execution training is gonna stop people from making the mistake. Even Vance and Zangitan do it from time to time. Anyway, the point isn’t that RBG sucks because it gets you punished for fucking up an input. The point is that the move is so ass that the ONLY time you see it IS when people fuck up an input. If that’s not a testament to how useless RBG is, I don’t know what is.

Wow, are you all serious ?

Try this setup in training vs. Ryu : Land an EX SPD. As you should know, it’s the only one giving you enough frame advantage to land a safe jump right after an LP green hand. All you have to do right after this is to empty jump over ryu. As this is the perfect timing for a safe jump, all reversal SRK’s from Ryu will whiff. Right after your empty jump, enter RBG motion and wait. If Ryu just block, he’ll take the good old supplex. As any reversal SRK will whiff, this is where RBG is usefull because it will make Zangief run after Ryu and grab him right as he lands.

It’s far from perfect, though, because LP SRK will make the grab whiff (in this case, the animation is the same as a whiffed SPD, since Ryu stays close and Gief don’t have to run). I also noticed that EX SRK will get Ryu far enough to avoid the punishment. In this case, EX RBG will grab him no matter what.

Works on a lot of characters, also. I’ll add some more whenever I have time to, and I’ll try to make a video with what I have here (no camera and nothing to capture the Xbox output, I guess the webcam will do the job…)

I may add that since Gief leaves his opponent right next to him after RBG, it makes it even more easy to land another safe jump, and another mix-up. It’s also a great move to push an opponent near the corner. Actually, it’s even better in this purpose than the German Supplex.

It’s almost 4 am here, I’ll go get some sleep, but I’ll post more about this later.

Hope this helps.

^ do you actually know what a safe jump is? Safe jumps are for slow reversals like Balrog headbutt.

Yeah I know, once again, it was 4 am in the morning when I typed this, I was kinda mad at some comments, and I figured how the “jump” was called was irrelevant. And in this case, I call it “safe” because Ryu can’t reversal SRK your jump, but whatever, those are just words.

The point is : it works, and punishes most reversal SRKs. It can give you positional advantage by pushing your opponent near the corner (or get you out of it), and it’s leaving your opponent close enough to you on the ground to try any kind of mix-up right after. I invite you to try and tell me what you think, though. As I said, I’ll try to make a video where I show different cases where RBG should be used and the advantages of it, I just have to figure out how to do that since I don’t have anything to capture videos from my Xbox 360 (and I suck at video editing).

empty jump is not safe jump
safe jump is a jump ATTACK .
empty jump you can pretty much block everything.

I would like it if they made the U2 motion more like Oni’s Super have ground version added but that would be too much (one can dream though).

I’ve been around for a while, however I rarely post in the character forums.

Just a few things I’d like to say since my first EVO experience and reading this thread.

1.) If you main Gief, you will have bad match ups. High % chance you will get them more than good ones. Be prepared by either using extreme patience or having a go to counter pick character.

2.) Don’t let names do anything. Most of the time a “big name” means nothing. Don’t give them unearned respect. Play your way and adapt. Chances are they aren’t framiliar with all of your tricks and playstyles.

3.) I prefer Ultra 1 still. Why? I am not amazing at executing U2. Also, crumple or stun you can’t get U2 off. U1, however… you can. Furthermore, I find reaction punishing with U1 easier than U2. I am working on my game to be better at U2 for certian matchups. What I see though is it reverses how you anticipate and guess. Ie. U1 people neutral jump a lot so u guess headbutt. U2 people dont neutral jump so you get more play with tics throws and combos.

4.) Flashmetroid. Your Gief is coming along very well. But it’s evident you aren’t an experienced Gief player. Take this without any hostility… keep up the pressure. You score a knockdown, green hand in and make them guess. Countless times I’ve seen you get that golden knockdown and walk up to them (which leaves you out of scary Gief range). I admire you trying against Tokido with dat Gief. I am stubborn as well and want to win the tough match ups.

This year was my first ever Major. I play on a fightpad. I finished 5 wins 2 losses (won my pool). I lost to Sanford’s Sagat barely in 3rd round of 3rd match because I dropped my back dash ultra input to punish a wiffed corner DP. Then I ran into LPN right after he peaced out Weapons Left. Unfortunate, he was a fresh Sagat with having just played a quality Gief before me. So, I finished 2 wins from top 32.

Was a great learning experience and was fun to be on stream with a few thousand people getting hype behind me. Was rewarding to get to play against the best of the best. Hopefully, next year I am still playing.

:nono::sweat::tdown::xeye::annoy::arazz:

i agree with nico oni… against geifs i’ve eaten RBG from the exact set up he’s talkin about… think of it as a built in option select against reversal dps.

Cool. Last I was aware you could and then they removed it. After seeing it, still not sold on that tactic.

Good looks though.

I’ve tried before go flying over them not reliable really.

lolol I don’t really see how its “evident” that I am inexperienced Gief player… but its cool everyone is entitled to their opinion at the same time you are pretty ridiculous if you are gonna sit here and tell me my play style is flat out wrong considering the results

lol John is 2 for 2 :wasted:

.
Who are these big names you took out at evo?

I never said your play style is flat out wrong. Don’t be so defensive. Learn to put down the ego and absorb some else’s point of view. If you want to discredit it, fine man… that’s your choice.

I could sit here and highlight and explain my post in further detail to clarify and maybe help you understand. However, obviously… that is a waste of my time. Good luck with things Flash.

Yes, I am. Turn that frown up-side-down.

U2 of crumple is not reliable in a match. And… Flash could be much better than he is with some tweaks to his game.

Thanks for the value add post.
