SSF4 AE Zangief Changes, Videos, Match-up Discussion

The should make some normals have faster recovery, KD EX hand, and buff up the Lariat not to vanilla level but something relatively close.

Nah zangief normals are already awesome, he doesn´t need any buffs to them imo.

Just getting rid of useless moves like that close st.lk and rbg would be helpful. Just make 360-k the double german. What the hell’s the point of rbg?

Standing MK could be a little better and the long sweep could be faster. I think the could add a cancel to the Bear Hug like hakans.

Does anyone use c.mp a lot? I’ve tried before and always get stuffed also is regular gh plus or minus on hit?

C.mp is really good against Chun, Guy, Dictator and some other situations against various characters. Regular gh is definitely minus on hit. I think jab gh is probably something like -5 on hit but I’m not 100% sure on that.

Guess I need to work on my spacing I’ve only made good use of c.mp against Guy wish it had that Sakura hitbox.

They could have made gh positive on hit instead but people would be crying OP.

I don’t complain much about match ups or changes and I usually just deal with whatever capcom does.
I don’t mind the new Banishing Fist attributes, infact I actually like that I can slip in a st.mp > cr.lk > Banishing Fist afterwards (usually).
What I really do miss is his short jump. I found that it was hands down one one of the best tools in the game for tricking people up and I really found it helped against Sagat. Please bring the short jump back. I miss you :sad:

I’d like them to get rid of running bear grab. I hate that move and it only ever comes out when I whiff a suplex attempt. If we do 360+K from range just make it a whiff animation and not that worthless move.

Mostly agreed. I think it should either be removed or retooled significantly. Have you ever done tick knees into Suplex and the Bear Grab move comes out instead (I don’t mean where Zangief runs accros the screen, I mean where it looks like he immediately slaps the opponent down and then power bombs them)? I’ve heard that that’s because the move was done a frame or two too early and Zangief actually runs for a frame and THEN power bombs them. So without the 1-frame the move would have just whiffed completely.

So in THAT case (where to move was done veeeerrrrrry slightly to soon after a tick) then I guess the running part is a GOOD thing. But I think the same effect could be done if they just increased the active duration of the suplex by 2 or 3 frames.

I agree completely on the Bear Grab thing, that move is not good at all (I think the only game that I played in wich that thing works OK is in Marvel vs Capcom 2).

Gief could use instead a good Anti Air grab like the one Abel has.

lol you guys beg for the dumbest buffs that aren’t gonna happen Zangief is perfectly balanced as he is if you think otherwise youre the problem not Gief. Going for the 360k is your choice(greed) because you want a follow up the running part is the risk involved you can always just go for FP nobody forces you to use RH

I know he probably won’t get these buffs and I think other people know that too. We’re just talking about game mechanics in a what-if and a what-we-would-do kinda way. But saying that he’s “perfectly balanced” is just flat out wrong. There are some characters that are MORE balanced in the sense that they’re matchup are more even accross the board, but Zangief’s got a few matchup that are damn, damn, DAMN hard. That’s not perfect balance to me. Or when you say “perfectly balanced” do you just mean “balanced enough”? Because on that…I mostly agree.

Also, personally, I think st.mk is fine the way it is. But I would never say “if you think otherwise youre the problem not Gief.”

I can’t agree here. The risk is missing and getting countered, just like SPD. Running bear grab is dogshit and just doesn’t belong in his moveset. Saying its an intended “risk” for going for 360+K is just dumb. I think you are probably the only player I’ve ever seen try to justify this move.

Rbg is arguably the most useless move in the game. There’s no need for it at all and it should be removed completely but we all know it won’t happen.

I beg to differ giefs standing hp is the worse move in the game.

If u accidentally do st.hp u don’t go running across the screen like a retard waiting to get ultra’ed like with rbg. Big difference there but I do agree that st.hp is useless. I’ve never purposely used that move ever either.

I don’t see why you guys don’t like rbg, I mean having a move is always better than just not having it. It’s always another gimmick you have, even if it’s absolutely terrible. Also, I really hope Zangief gets a buff, because I feel like a big nerf and then a tradeoff and then another nerf just wouldn’t be fair to the character. Maybe he could use a walkspeed buff or something like a completely new move or new set of fierces. Mainly, I hope one of his worst matchups doesn’t become top again like vanilla and super.

If I whiff U2, I’d rather a st.HK, j.HK or absolutely nothing come out than have Zangief run across the screen like a dumbass. There is no practical use for RBG, except getting you punished severely for slightly mistiming an input.

For 2012 Gief, I want a safe regular GH, KD on EX hand and faster startup and active frames for cr.LK.

i agreed to take out the rbg, since its useless.
but if we are lucky gief would stay as he is now. chances are that he would get nerf even more. spd range back to super etc.
i would be satisfy with vanila air hitbox and a faster c.hk. or just the exgh knockdown.
