Is it worse than vanilla Sagat/Gief?
WGE you manage to get any footage?

This Friday is the plan. It was last Friday but I could not find the engineer who opens up the cabinet for me.
Also on Tuesday, I will be streaming console AE for about 12hours, from approx 12pm GMT (7am if you are in NYC).
SSF4 sucks balls, water is wet, etc.
Apparently gief is A tier now. Yeah, I think everyone should just stop all the tier speculations and just wait until the games comes out on console. I for one am going to reserve judgement until I’ve spent some time with AE gief.
Why not? I can totally see that being correct since your tier placement in AE solely equivalent your ability to deal with twins and Zangief supposed to be the best at it right now.
LOL, Itabashi Zangief lost to Daigo’s yun 0:10 in a row in AE.
Arcadia ranking’s just placed Zangief at 4th behind the twins and Fei Long.
I’ll believe this when Vance wins Evo (Hell any AE Major), not getting randomed out by couterpicks of Chun, Gat, Akuma, Seth… and destroys Daigos Yun because you know the pundits believe Gief is 6-4 over Yun so it doesnt matter that it’s theeeeee Daigo because he can still win using a character that has a bad matchup… like he did as Ryu vs Sim…
/sarcastic rant…
As was the case in Vanilla when Zangief was ranked as high as he is now, he does well against a lot of the cast, but is somewhat outclassed by the those in his tier grouping. This is what truly holds him back.
a 6-4 matchup, isnt a matchup that makes you lose a game. Its a matchup that says the better player should win in a serious setting. Daigo wouldnt lose to lesser players just because of a slight disadvantage… When Daigo lost to Dhalsims in Super, it was because the matchup was a strong 7-3. a 7-3 in IV is more or less unwinnable if both players are good. Vance will proabably get far, but he wont win, he isnt good enough. You dont win solely based on Chara, you win on skill asswell. You cant predict the winner by looking down the matchup chart.
All the counterpicks for gief in Super are clearly 7-3 in opponents favor. people just refuse to believe so because they can beat a couple of random ranked players…
True 4-6 5-5 and 6-4 is in favor of the better player. However, its extreemly hard if you dont know the matchup ofc… a 7-3 is another story. Which is why matchup charts are wrong to begin with. 7-3 in IV are more like 9-1 and 8-2. while 6-4 are mostly either 7-3 or 5-5 based on whatever…
First, not being argumentative here, I dont disagree with what your saying. I think we are saying almost the same thing in a different way.
BUT for the record, Sim-Ryu 7-3 has to be one of the biggest misconceptions of Super. That shit is NOT even in the same league as AE Sim-Yun, or sf4 Gief-Gat… no way Jose. One good read Ryu milks 40% of sim’s life bar and can still be in his face for more lunch money.
But anyway that’s besides the point.
The point I’m making is that a character cannot be considered A class with that many lopsided MU’s. And its not like sf4 Gief which walloped like half the cast even if he did lose to the top tiers. In this version of the game seriously, who does Gief beat CONVINCINGLY anymore besides bottom tier? And by convincingly I mean vs a character that needs to bring his A game with an A+ player to win? This is not to say he sucks because he doesn’t. In the right hands Gief is certainly a beast. And u2 is borderline gdlk.
And speaking of the right hands, I feel that guy is Vance. Honestly I really really do believe Vance > Itabashi. Not leaps and bounds. But he has some intangibles and better execution overall IMO, he just gets wreak-less sometimes. And I also assume he hasn’t been playing AE. Sucks to be U.S.A players at EVO.
We let’s not forget Cantona in this conversation as well wonder how he has faired against Yun.

Vance better than Ita-san? Okay bro are u high or something? And then u say he has better execution? Itabashi has way better execution than Vance. Vance actually does a lot of unsafe stuff and misses combos too. He’s the best gief in the states but not close to Itabashi, Zangitan, Cantona, Kog, etc.
That and KOG mains Hawk now. But until we see how Van fares with the AE changes let’s wait and see before we make such declarations

Yeah I know he mains Hawk but he was and is a world class gief.
Sorry I got to be the one in the vast minority. Vance’s matches seem to impress me alot more than at least the “recent” stuff from alot of Jap Giefs, so to say he is not even close, you must be on some japanophile stuff. Lets not say by default if your from Japan > anyone in the states playing same said character. Vance has a certain amount of unpredictability that alot of those guys out east dont.
Also, I think playing on pad is something that in alot of ways can be advantageous as a Gief player. Walking 720’s are easier and no one can hear you churn, etc.
I wish Aloha was playing AE whatever happened to him.

that’s why I think siting next to each other playing sf4 is such a stupid move.
