I bet that most Akuma players will shift to u2 over time, at least against Gief. Most Akumas are fairly cookie cutter, but the very creative ones, like Ed Ma and Richard Nguyen (the guy who found that Akuma fuzzy guard break in the corner), have already been using it well in certain matches even in Super. I think most Akumas just haven’t really thought about what they can do with a better hitbox and faster startup on that ultra.
Will the u2 from akuma hit crouching geif or can it hit a wiffed grab. My trick in super vs akuma u2 is to full screen rbg at them they will try and hit you with it and it will wiff over you trying to grab them because teleport towards you triggers the grab. very funny but only works once they will never fall for it again.

it hits crouching oppenents when he teleports now so im sure itll hit a wiffed grab
Yeah that u2 change is way better and I can see it being useful now thanks for the link.
yea I always hated giefs U2 but I like the buffs it got so im sure ill be using it alot more in AE
wow that u2 fucking kills, so when akuma gets life lead teleport all day and if you try to catch you get hit by ultra. this is not looking good for that matchup.
It’s a full small square and a half
It went from 5.5 to 6.5 so that’s a full small square. And a small square can be a significant difference. The difference in reach between Akumas cr.MK and Ryus is a small square.
However, it’s hard to say that this amount of extra range is on the same degree of importance for a lagging command throw as it is for a fast, safe, spammable poke.
It’s up to players to work out what the extra range helps him do that he couldn’t do before. Maybe in punishing terms, he can now SPD safe ranged pokes that he previously couldn’t do anything about?
Doubtful it will make any difference vs Chuns roundhouse, but… maybe something else?
Dude, what is the matter with you lol. First it is “micro pixels” and a trick of the eye; now that there is photographic proof you won’t even admit the difference- you round down to make it seem shittier. I get that it is nice to gripe, but this is a sizable difference. It isn’t 5 squares or half screen, but things that were safe distance-wise before may not be as safe. This new range may chew up neutral jumpers or rekkas or some range-specific safe specials; who knows, but it is a buff to Gief’s (now) most dangerous footsie tool.
Because people are beefing OMG Gief is so “broke” now. And that this is a game changer…In an epic way. While the buff is nice for alot of punishes that before you could only do lk xx ex gh, technically i would have rather the ex gh kd punish so i could stay right on top of the fool. I think people will adjust to the “new” range and over time it will become very risky just to throw it out there in footsies. Kinda like when i get in step kick range vs Abel…RED ALERT RED ALERT.
Don’t get me wrong even “micro-pixels” is nice and crapcom could have totally said FU gief, but in the grand scheme its a huge tit for tat IMO. Guess time will tell.
And I still don’t see how its more than .5 training mode square. Maybe we not looking at the same graphic. lol
Yeah the people who say Gief is broken now are full of shit so I just don’t pay them any attention. But those people aren’t really contributing in the Gief forums and it may well be time for us all to stop being salty about EXGH not knocking down and retune or grappler game.
Re range: CTRL + a few times then count squares-old range looks like about 4.5 squares; new range looks like about 5.5 squares.
Edit: I do think that in the grand scheme of things Gief may end up being pretty damn good in AE. Since fb characters build way less meter and a lot of Gief’s gameplay has the potential to wreck mixup characters. There are a bunch of matchups that I am personally dreading though.
Yea Giefs definitely has new strengths. It used to be capitalizing on knockdowns and running the vortex. It seems like the new Gief is all about landing spds. The range allows him to be a lot more competitive (dominant?) in the footsie department.
Getting an o-s to EXGH or a combo to EXGH used to put Gief at a huge advantage, but now its not as big.
Start jotting down every move that is more than -2 on block. I have a feeling that im going to be churning butter very soon. . .

Zoom at the point where the two pictures meet. (looking at the squares on the floor where the characters feet are) The blue shaded area is expanding half a small square in both directions:
0.5 + 0.5 = 1 small square.
Alternatively; both images have the shaded area beginning at the black line that Ryus toe rests on. There are ten small squares between each black line. The bolded grey line in the middle of two black lines marks a 5 small square space. The initial red area (SSF4 reach) already stretches beyond the bolded grey line so I don’t see how Guru can consider that reach to be 4.5 small squares.
The red area stretches from Ryus toe to a half-square past the 5 squares mark, so that’s 5.5. The blue area stretches from the same starting point at Ryus toe to a square and a half past the 5 square mark; meaning the blue reach is 6.5 and the range increase has been a full small square.
It should be really plain to see without any confusion.
Silly me, looking at the “wrong” squares.
Here’s what I’m wondering, can I now grab Ryu from just out of c.hk/sweep range? We can already grab Ryu with lp spd just outside of c.mk’s hitbox (hit up training mode to find out). You can even extend this just a hair further if you do that “maximize range” thing. Also, for that matter, what about Boxer’s sweep? Both Boxer and Ryu have the same range I think, or at least damn close. Tired of walking into that and not being able to punish even.
^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
I’ve had matches against super lame rogs that just hold downback and do nothing but dashpunch, crouching roundhouse if I get too close, and crouching fierce if i jump.
cant wait for AE!
how much is ex gh on block now?
I am also thinking new SPD range might be killing some neutral jumpers. Too bad Pop’s Arcade in downtown MPLS closed down; back in the day that place was fun as hell. UofM doesn’t have it in their rec center?
