SSF4 AE: Revenge of the Orbs

You guys don’t understand that she’s better in AE rather than she was in Vanilla.

Like SO MUCH BETTER.

I would be crazy enough to say she’s better in that game rather than Super, but I won’t due to flame wars and people not listening to “Rose has better match ups in AE, deal with it” :D.

yeah i agree its just that we need to get out of the habit of relying on u2 like in super, I wish there are more ae videos on rose

but everyone in the game is so much better.

fuck no!

we need more Anton (filipinoman’s) AE videos! buy yourself a nice cam and start recording!!

Give me money for a cam, and sure, why not?

I’m a bit skeptical whether or not Rose is really better than how she was in Vanilla. However, making this comparison is kind of irrelevant since the majority of the cast got nerfed as well, hence it wouldn’t really be indicative of how well she would stack up against the rest of the cast in AE. AE is much different than Vanilla in terms of geared playstyle. Based on my thoughts, I think she’ll still be mid-tier. In terms of placing higher than where she was in Super…I highly doubt it.

yeah since fireballers got nerfed I guess reflecting wiil be better?( even though it gotten better in super with the reflect buff) making zoning better. And more recovery on certain characters specials makes for easier punishes. nerf on cr.mp, st.mk dont seem all that bad. yeah too many factors play into this which makes me really want june to be here already.

I wish I had a camera with me at the arcade today. I had a 19 game win streak with my Rose in AE. There were a lot of good matches… Shame no one gets to see them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello everyone,

I’m a brand new Rose player from Chile with many questions regarding Rose, I know I’m supposed to search on the forums for info on her but it’s just too many pages to swim through and it seems there isn’t any updated info on her as a sticky (by that I mean a sticky with strategy and changes for AE Rose), so if it’s not much of a bother I’d like to ask you people the following:

  1. What are Rose’s changes aside from the nerf to U2? I mean how much did her normals, specials and super changed.

  2. What is Rose’s general strategy now in AE? Does it change that much when compared to vanilla and chocolate?

  3. Is there ever going to be an updated match-up thread to learn how Rose deals with the rest of the cast in AE?

  4. What are the current main uses for U2 now?

That’s all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for your replies.

Welcome to the Rose forums! We would gladly help you with your questions :).

  1. Aside from her U2 nerf, Rose received four other changes.

1 - Her c.mp was given a larger hittable box, essentially making it easier to get stuffed by other moves.
2 - Her st.mk’s hitbox was shortened slightly, so it doesn’t hit opponents at the tip of her feet anymore.
3 - She can’t use Super while her projectile is still on the screen, taking away her super trap (Ryu had this in Vanilla, but that was taken out in Super), but she can still cancel her Spark into Super.
4 - Her Soul Spark builds less meter, so it’ll take a little more time to build meter if you’re reliant on those.

  1. In Vanilla and Super, she could play defensively (more of an extent in Super with her U2 start-up invincibility), especially since both games weren’t rushdown oriented. In AE, you can’t really play that much defensively. Some characters have new or better rushdown tools, so it’s harder to keep them out.

  2. I’m pretty sure there will be once all of us gets our hands on the game, so we can test and whatnot.

  3. There are a lot of current uses for U2. The main obvious one, is as a wake-up reversal. You can also use U2 as an AA, to bait and punish certain moves, and as an offensive mix-up (doing ST on your opponent’s wake-up for a cross-up). In AE however, the majority of these will NOT work except the last option.

Thank you very much for your reply sksksksksk222!! However when I asked about “current” uses of U2 I meant uses in the AE version, I said current since it’s the lastest version out, not for being in consoles.

So in AE, what uses does U2 have?

No problem! Oh, I thought you meant Super.

In AE, it really only has offensive applications, such as the last option I listed in my previous post. Since U2 has a faster start-up, it should be easier to combo into after a j.mk cross-up. I know some people have asked if you could use U2 after c.lk to make it safe, but I’m not sure about that.

Thank you very much! So in other words I have to forget about using it as a wakeup and instead activate it for offensive purposes such as pressuring or doing combos?.

Is it safe to use U2 to pressure a shoto? and against Boxer?.

Exactly. Personally, since U2 has lost pretty much all its defensive utilities, I would go with U1. I think it’s pretty safe to use it to pressure any character, as long as you’re in a good position to do so.

So you’re saying I should drop U2 entirely and start using U1? Wasn’t it an almost useless Ultra in Vanilla?.

Is it really safe if I try to pressure with it but whiff/gets blocked?

i agree with sk try u1 since u2 was meant for defense in the first place, man rose is gonna have it rough enough for gootecks and sabin to drop her,
and i dont wanna switch it took me forever the play her right.

It wasn’t an entirely useless Ultra in Vanilla, but it depends on your preference. Are you willing to use U2, the least damaging Ultra in the game and get a small amount of damage off a combo, or are you willing to go with U1, an Ultra that can take roughly half a character’s life off of one mistake?

But as far as I know U1 is extremely unsafe on block, what if I mistime the Ultra and gets blocked? They can do whatever they want afterwards I think.

well, try your best not to mistime it!
