It isn’t as good as U1 in AE IMO.
So looks like U1 will be the go to in most matchups now. I’m trying to think of some matchups where U2 will be the better pick. Maybe Dhalsim so that you can get in on his limbs and restrict his teleports?
Any match where the other guy doesn’t have something you can react punish with U1. And I don’t mean just things like blocked dragons, I’m talking about things that would otherwise be safe to whiff at distance.
Yeah U1 still is pretty useful on the U2 matchups, it can punish hard any whiff or baited reversal, and beat almost any Ultra/special in response, but still I´ll miss U2 as a tool to stop rushdown…cause damn poor Rose sucks in that term xD still blocking and teching is always the golden defense xD
I don’t even have to confirm or anything; Rose is now free on wakeup … again. She’s still better than her Vanilla counterpart, though.
I may be going to an AE tournament next weekend and I’ve been thinking about the ultra selection. So far I have U2 for Guile and Dhalsim, and U1 for everyone else. I still think that U2 could be really useful for the chip and it could be used to get aggressive opponents off you much like Dhalsim’s U1. Maybe it depends on the opponent type. Anyone have any ideas?
I’m still going to use U2 for most of my matches just for its offense uses and how it changes the neutral game. Life advantage + orbs will still be difficult for the other guy to deal with, especially as their life gets lower. It’s not as much of a comeback move as most of the other ultras in the game, but it does have that use in combos.
How severely does U1 limit the other character’s actions? Is it worth giving up U2’s every-round versatility? That’s how I look at it, and it can vary depending on how bad/risky the other player is too. If they’re not safe and do a lot of dumb shit, U1 may automatically be better?
U2 isn’t every round anymore though.
It’s still "useful’ persay, but the scare factor and damage of U1 is so much more useful.
They’re scared to do what, though? It’s generally things they shouldn’t do anyway (bad jump, have a dp blocked, etc).
I still plan to use U2 as well, despite losing all its defensive properties. U1 may have that intimidation factor, but if your opponent is smart, he will find ways around it.
So do you guys think the U1 characters should include:
Adon: For obvious reasons.
Honda: He was nerfed pretty bad but Illusion Spark should keep him out even harder.
Juri: For dive kicks, can ultra her “come and hit me” counter, can ultra EX and HK pinwheels on block.
Guy: Keeps him out of the air, stops a lot of his options.
Rufus: For dives and stopping U2. Can it still be used for chip? Can’t you just jump into it to send Rose flying and avoid the chip?
Blanka: Do we even need U1 in this match anymore?
Zangief: Punish lariats, whiffed command grabs.
Balrog: Snatch his dash punches.
Concerning Guile. Will we still be able to nullify his U2 chip with orbs or will that not work anymore because of the inability to block after?
I suppose you will not be able to avoid that with U2 anymore…I think U1 works pretty well against Guile too…but there depends on the Guile player style I think.
In my case no more U2 vs Gief or Rog xD time to block meaties or Safe jumps to c. grabs till death or escape xD
U2 still is cool in the offensive mixing, can make mistakes appear magically or a grab more easy…then again instant overheads…ST mix-ups…it has its uses xD I like the “EATYOURMISTAKE!” factor of U1 but…it depends on each of us style in each match I think…but even with that…U2 is now terribly nerfed and that is unfair buaaah xD haha
And for U1 I believe vs this ones is useful too:
Chun-li: makes her jump less and also can punish whiffed hazanshu(or on reaction wich is cooler xD)
T.Hawk: some Hawks jump way too much…stop them with this timed right xD…after all U2 is not so useful now vs him I think
Dan: It makes the fight more cool xD
Gouken: If you have nice timing and reaction can make him be more careful with his attacks I guess.
Sagat: It really works as a threat if used nicely…still I dunno about best on this one…
Blanka: The punish is still nice and stops insane jumping xD
Dictator: Dunno his nerfs…but I´m thinking maybe U1 and U2 are both same viable options now
And as always I hate Seth match…it is out of the theme but I just needed to say it again xD
With many characters, it is monumentally hard to stop Rose’s ground game. She has better ground game than most characters.
It’s actually scary to see Rose have U1, it stops you from doing stupid shit, like for example, when you have U2, they can jump from full screen free all they want to cover space, and there is nothing Rose can do about it.
You have to anticipate the jump, you have to anticipate the fireball, you have to consider factors of punishment.
Not to mention, it’s not bad to do a random U1 sometimes (don’t make it a habit though).
My worst matchups are those where the opponent has better pokes than I have. Vega and Chun are major pains for me. I need to completely change gameplan and don’t have that skill, yet. Balrog for the same reason, although it aint about his poking, its about his jabs stuffing everything
For the past month, ive realised, that ive been using U2 less on wakeup and more on pressure, and momentum shifting. So u2 for AE may still be viable to me
Booo in my case I still use it 60% on wake-up xD I gotta use it more on pressure or learn to return to my U1 I used on my start on SuperSF4 months ago(never had Vanilla so it was just for the animation and the AA function xD)…the fun fact is that I´m pretty offensive with Rose but I rarely have a chance to U2 for pressure…at least for combos I use it sometimes xD
I use it a lot when they are in the corner to lock them down and try for a LVL3 focus. Until they learn to EX through at the correct moment, I’ll use it with great effect
Yesterday I got a soul spiral to juggle that way (due to the FA catching them jumping-away). Looked funny.
lol. I haven’t tried that in a while.
Anti air spiral in the corner > U2 > soul throw is pretty juicy. Super in there if you have it too. Too bad it doesn’t happen much.
Glad to see everybody’s not whining anymore. For now.
the thing about not using U2 on wake up in this game is that U2 provides a scare factor in this game.
so they know you have it and you aren’t afraid to use it. and if they just back up, you’re back up for free.
but in ae, you will have PLENTY of rounds where you didn’t use the satellites.
why is that? Rose has a good keep away game. Not like she ever has to get rolled over to force a U2 escape. I use U2 mostly for pressure
