SSF4 AE: Revenge of the Orbs

I’m hoping that it s still safe ( that you can’t be hit by anything done on reaction of the lunch of u2 )

Stop hoping accept the blowup

Seconded.

This character is pretty much done competitively.

She was having a hard enough time competing against some of the cast.

BTW, to those who keep on saying “Her backdash is still good”, don’t really play against people who punish backdashes much, do you?

No matter how you shake it, reducing viable, good options makes it easier for the attacker.

Does this mean we will have to use HP reflect FADC into U2 now? That is pretty difficult in the givin situation. Maybe we can focus on ways to use u2 from a mid distance.

or rather just use it after knockdown. That’s how i’ve basically been using it lately. Corner knockdown, activate U2, mix them up with fake crossups/actual crossups. There’s still a bunch of ways to use U2 outside of the main reason it was there (which was to get people off her wakeup.) But considering it’s not that damaging to begin with, you’re really doing more effort than you should be doing.

Agreed. My two cents if anyone cares…

1.) No wakeup options besides block and backdash. It’s not enough in this game. And now they take away her best wakeup option.
2.) Rose does no damage to begin with. She has no comeback factor.
3.) Ultra 2 does not do great damage but that ok because is mostly used to wakeup and reset spacing. But now she can’t so what’s the point.
4.) At best her matchups were 5-5. At best 6-4 against Guile but that’s still not free and I’m not counting the non-tournament characters.
5.) She’s Chun-Li but with worse pokes, consist damage and wakeup.
6.) Personal complaint… She has no true chip damage block strings. ex: cr. mp xx s sprial/spark. That just screams free straight ultra for opponent.

That being said. I’ll probably still play her somewhat only because I don’t have time to play this game and don’t give a shit about the sf4 series. 3rd strike online edition cannot come soon enough :razzy:

Lulz like Renegade knows about how to be competitive. If you need an ultra to compete, you so free.

And seriously, fuck the doomsayers. Some characters can’t even punish backdashes in an option select, or on reaction. The ones who can, I’d rather take that than get thrown and suffer more wake-up pressure. Stay free east coast. :woot:

It’s just an ultra, no biggie. It’s not like when we play, we want to have an ultra. We want to finish the game off quickly as possible. If you played the character just because she has this ultra where she can activate it wherever and be at an advantageous position, you didn’t play the character for her other tools, just so you can lose your half life and activate these soul satellites.

Meaning to say, I still did use U2 for other things rather than wake up, and I hope it still works in some situations where I have used it before.

Such as you said you can still use it to get in on Dhalsim, the way you described how to use it.

You can still use it on some characters wake up.

The Guile match would allow us to waste more time, hopefully we can still use it on wake up on sonic hurricane traps and jump out of it.

Rose is gonna be the same mid tier character she was a while ago.

I can’t see match ups where the 0 frame ultra was ABSOLUTELY necessary.

lol at you thinking you know about renegade. no invincibility on u2? knocked down. btw idk if you are not aware but if you get os on backdash you are getting knocked down also so you “rather” take the throw will put you in the same situation. “Wait!!! there is a solution i will just activate my ult… oh yeah i can’t anymore  .” Stay free Metroxylon.

We played Rose in Vanilla.

some of us understand.

God forbid people learn how to block or back dash on wake up.

and even then she’s still free. Which people seem to be missing here.

Backdash on wakeup? have fun eating Option Selects all day.

Block? Better than backdash. But you’re still stuck in pressure and no safe way to get them off you.

Couldn’t have said it any better. Rose’s backdash may be one of the best backdashes in the game, but she’s no less immune to OS sweeps than anyone else.

you can deal with it however.

Dhalsim has no wake up options, but he’s still a good character.

Guile has little to no wake up options, but he’s still a good character.

What makes Rose different?

Yeah shes back to Vanilla status on wake up for the most part it seems since they didnt tweak anything else. Something needed to be done to U2 tho. It was too easy mode like I said from day one.

U2 is one of those ultras that either comes out really good, or really bad.

I’m glad you brought that up. Dhalsim and Guile both have more solid gameplans than Rose (I think that should be a universal understanding). For example; They can both use projectiles to keep Honda out. Rose cannot do anything to keep Honda out. They both have better zoning tools. That makes it harder for the opponent to get in. Rose can shoot a fireball and get punched in the face by Honda/Rufus and others almost full screen. Of course once opponents get in on Guile and Dhalsim they have trouble (hence Cammy). But they are better at keeping those characters out. What can Rose do? Play footies with characters that have better normals and damage? Sim and Guile have overall strategies that work which makes them more solid and harder to get in on and eventually knock down.

That’s something I’ve always thought about as well. I remember asking about other characters that had poor wake-up options, and I noticed Dhalsim and Guile share similarities. However, both of them are placed higher on the tier list than Rose is. I think Dave is spot on as to why they generally perform better.

@ Dave D.
Honda was a really really bad example lol. Considering that U1 is better in the match up. (I’ve played Mr. SNK enough to tell me that, because I used to be a U2 junky as well.) vs Honda, fireballs are just fine. And there are some characters that they do TERRIBLE in, that we do fairly decent in, for example, Viper and Abel. (in the case of Dhalsim).

It’s just a matter of what tools we have. Let’s say we don’t have ultra 2. We can handle rushdown mixups better than Dhalsim, but not as good as Guile.

It’s just the way things flow.

pretty much. Rose has the tools to really hang, but she does shit damage compared to the other females (and generally the overall cast) and doesn’t have anything to be afraid of outside of what? U2 right now is the only thing to fear but there’s ways to bait/waste it. She has good normals until you realize everyone else has better/more damaging normals. This is really no different than any other character in a fighting game that’s so high on a tier. Her only problem is her wakeup game. She has none.

Everyone else in the cast (besides makoto) has some type of reversal on wakeup. Rose and Makoto get thrown out of their suggested reversals for free. Which then forces them to block and guess right.
