Rose players learn blocking plz. lol.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, for I rarely play with or against Rose.
Some time ago, I recorded and playbacked Gen’s meaty Super setup on all casts. Rose had to block on her wake-up if she did nothing but hold down-back. When she did Reversal U2 however, Gen’s Super went through completely w/o hitting her or even making her block, which made me believe she had some invincibility frames. I honestly think this part is no longer invincible, and that she will get hit out by the same setup, provided they removed invincibility for every single frame.
I dont get the thought process behind the super thing. Maybe someone was getting blown the f up on a daily basis by it at capcom and wanted it gone lol. Really annoying to think about since I do use super a lot, well more than others. I mean she gains meter so effing fast, why not throw it out there haha.
Not crazy about U2 either. Don’t know exactly what it will mean for my game but I know I get hit out of it by stupid shit every now and then, sounding like theres gonna be more of it lol.
Well, technically it said invincibility has been “decreased.” So it might mean that Rose will have some invincibility to work with if U2 is used as a reversal. Hopefully 4 frames of invincibility as opposed to the whole 5 frames throughout the start up of the activation (wishful thinking lol). Hopefully they decided to weaken it as a reversal rather than remove it’s utility as a reversal all together. Worst case scenario, it’s invincibility is removed entirely since it did also say “or erased” which I thought was a vague thing to say (it’s either one or the other). Might just be the translation.
So it’s best to wait and see I guess…
Even so, I still think U2 will be useful due to it’s flexibility as far as combos go. Though no doubt U1 will be seen more often.
my guess is it’ll be vulnerable enough so people like Rog with 3 frame jabs can mash the fuck out of it.
Some translation said “removed”.
It is certainly translation problem, I’m not an expert in Japanese and consequently I end up encountering words I haven’t seen or used before. Japanese-English dictionary translated the word as “cut down”, so I put down as reduced, but the other translation said “removed”, so I added in “(or erased)” part.
lol @ anybody salty about these changes. Imma still hang.
ultra 2 'less rose will be less intimidating yes but i mean i dont think this single change will totally cripple her. Blocking was and still is a viable option. I just enjoyed not having to worry bout ryu’s ambiguous jump ins and rush down bs with her ultra ready. People are uber overacting. No one has even actually played ssf4AE rose yet and yet all this condemnation…
Considering they said Rose’s U2 was changed, they probably changed the whole Ultra animation. I can’t really see her doing the twirl animation, and the orbs not coming out.
There is no way that rose ultra 2 was best in game considering u could safejump and block it and get rushed down again.
Rose is gonna get blown up, if u try to activate on wakeup you will probably trade and lose your ultra just like the location test (if you remember elvenshadow actually posted about this.)
This is lame. She actually needed it on wakeup. Watch her get raped by ibuki, viper, Abel now since u2 really helped her in those matchups
I’m used to blocking on wakeup cause of sim but this is just wack

Wooo! Super Staring-Fest 4 Arcade Edition. Everyone is getting their most effective moves nerfed lol, this is so lame.
Anyways, maybe her orbs start out in a different location which leaves her vulnerable? who knows. Looks like im gonna have to start practicing with U1 in all of her matchups, ahhh well. Im just a little salty that they’re taking this away and not even making EX spiral or EX soul throw even a little bit more viable as reversals or “get me the fuck out of here” moves. Not about to ditch her though considering that pretty much everyone is getting nerfed way worse.
This nerf isnt going to make Rose unusable… but it very likely will make U2 very close to unusable.
i don’t see the fuss. Gootecks did well in the recent touny with Rose. Is it because of U2? That’s just silly.
Sup U1? Long time, no see.
I’m more upset about not being able to super with spark on screen. We’ll just have to combo into U2 now. Its not that hard. Or we can use it when we get a knockdown like Juri uses U1.
it helps. It makes people not jump in so often.
yeah i dont think people understand how much U2 made people sec guess jumping, just like a shoto’s DP… especially the better players…
But now, people gonna jump around and attempt cross up for free all day with no fear so back to square one…
Ultra 2 will still be viable i think. It just won’t be the same ‘get out of jail’ free card we’ve all become accustomed too. The ‘corner FA’ , ‘well timed walk up throw with two orbs scaring them’ , and all those other good gimmicky setups will still be there =D. Guess its time to up our D and kick the crutch to the corner.
I always forget what the consensus is about this U2 and its invulnerability frames. They happen within the freeze, some say, but then again the other person must be made able to move (or at least evolve its action) during those frames too. Perhaps. Perhaps it happens after the freeze. It’s a strange ultra.
If it happens inside the freeze (and thus actually invulnarability was a given since all moves are invulnarable inside freeze, as nothing happens normally), and it still acts the same way it did in Super, than this means that any meatie that was started before the U2 got out, and gets active before the orbs come out (people seem to agree 5 frames) then it will beat the U2. Thus beating it is a simple matter of getting a meatie out that hits on the first frame of wakeup (actually you have 5, but we time meaties on the first frame usually), and you will kill the orbs and get a free combo
It wont be possible however to stick out a jab or SRK after the U2 freeze, as the vulnarability was inside the U2.
If all is correct, then the Ultra loses to any meatie setups, to anything that hits you right on wakeup (and worse, as it is 5 frames). But the Ultra will still be combo-able the same way. That means that to beat meaties you need another reversal, the EX drill, and this will be your 50/50 of reversal choice. opponents who can consistently beat EX drill however with a fast recovering normal or long active move, will kill both options.

I dont quite follow the theory of invulnarability and orb startup inside the U2 freeze though, as this would have effect on the options the opponent normally has with his move (block after, combo, cancel) etc, while the screen is actually in freeze.
So eh, is there consensus yet?
edit: damn it, the confusion came from a post of our favorite forumtroll Rose himself. DJB and other oldskoolers just say this is an ultra with 4 startup, hitting on the 5th frame and no recovery (instant block).
So lets take that as a starting point.
Actually, then it didnt have any invulnarability to start with, as 0 recovery just means she can move on frame 1 and thus block everything anyway. Back to square one.
Perhaps they translated wrng and didnt mean that invulnarability frames got removed, but recovery was added. If so, then this is bot affecting reversals as it is combos, since her movement will be hampered. But perhaps the few frames dont mater much for combos anyway since you will likely be hitting the orb first, then a normal during hitstun anyway
Having just spent a little time with Rose online I won’t be switching no matter what the nerf actually means, I’ll just have to improve my game in other areas to try and make up for it. The way she is in this game fit’s my play style better than anyone else - Although if Guile wasn’t a charge character…
