i feel that Guy is gonna definitely become top 10. All of his current 6/4 bad match-ups are most likely going to turn into 5/5’s. Also with that ex run stop, it seems characters who are zoners are going to be so free now lol.
Yeah, someone good actually started using him. That’s mostly what changed.
Sad to say it, but I agree. Until now, no one close to Daigo’s caliber was playing Guy.
Otaku was a legend before.
Someone mentioned that he became legend back in the Alpha days. I wonder if he’s been playing on the low all this time. Judging by his play he know’s his match-ups and definitely knows how to play Super. Defintely someone to watch out for!
No doubt Otaku is the nut high, he plays Guy beautifully.
I pulled off an Otaku inspired EX Run Stop, Ultra II today. So damn sexy and easy to confirm when someone throws out a move.
I never realised how much easier the new EX Run Stop makes landing Ultra II up until recently.
Tell us what you think of E.ryu and Oni match ups. Badass ryu takes a lot of damage and this will work in guy’s favour.
Vs Oni, I think air dashes will be useless against guy cause he can do run xx slide upon recovery. Also, Oni might have low stun and he has a big hitbox so if st.hk, st.hp, st.mp, slide/ex hozz works then we will be able to stun him fast. It will probably be a 5-5 match up unless they discover some crazy shit for Oni.
The extended range on U2 probably makes it a fair bit easier too.
I played AE for the first time today and it was rough but I had fun. There was a Yun player there who was dominating. Has anyone figured out the yun vs guy match up? I could not figure out how to effectively deal with the dive kick pressure. If I made even one mistake there goes half my life.
Yun’s Divekick is nothing to grand to be honest, small hitbox, large hurtbox. Like with all over dive kicks in this game Guy’s cr Mp. is the go to Anti Air Normal. But I wouldn’t be surprised of it lost to most of Guy’s normals.
And of course the EX Tatsu and TK Izuna.
How do you think his buffs will fare against evil ryu and oni?
I honestly think Guy will have more trouble with Oni Akuma rather than Evil Ryu.
Oni has the air dashes so he can bait reversals and TK Izunas with no problems and maybe even stay out of the Bushin flip range. Which means Guy will have to think smart of going for Anti Air especially since Oni can do his Ultra in the air.
But from the looks of them they may not even be tourney viable right now.
if Guy is viable, I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Especially Oni who seems to have good options and mix ups. E. Ryu is a solid mid tier at least, probably better though. Shoto players can also pick them up faster and they are popular so you will see them in tourneys I’m sure
I was able to space the cr.forward pretty well so that beat it but I never timed cr.strong well enough. If I hit it too early then I would eat a huge combo usually ending with the super loop. I felt like as soon as yun was on top of me I couldn’t do much except for when I had the meter to get him off. trying to close the distance and get my game started was a problem too. I guess I just need to practice alot more haha.
guys lets keep discussion about this in the arcade thread. This one should just be for confirming guy’s changes. Also, you sure his overhead wasn’t a counterhit or the opponent was standing (ryu can do the same if the opponent is standing for the overhead).
Elbow drop beats dive kick clean. In my opinion this match up is yours if Yun takes to the air. Elbow drop is very effective versus Yun/Yang’s non-EX DP kicks so long as you position your elbow to land where there head will be.
How much more damage does Super do? In SSFIV it’s a satisfying 350 damage, I don’t really notice a change in damage when I play though.
However I generally combo the Super more than use it as a standalone.
Couldn’t be more than 360 or 370, right?
Yun’s Dive Kick is easily the 2nd best Dive Kick in the game right now (with the best being Ex Cannon Spike… which uses meter), due to it’s speed and 3 angle-variations. It looks like a no-brainer that cr.MP should beat Dive Kick if you look at the hitboxes alone, but it’s not as simple as that. Yun’s Dive Kick moves so fast that the only way you can expect to beat it is to press cr.MP the moment you see him jump… But your cr.MP only has 2 active frames, so if Yun delays the Dive Kick a bit, instead of anti-airing him, you get hit, comboed, knocked down and vortexed on wake up.
But the dive kick is only part of the equation. Throw in the fact that Yun has a command grab is too fast to beat with cr.LK and a cr.LK of his own that makes Ex Tatsu whiff, and you have a match up that’s pretty hard in general.
If Guy actually had an easy time against Yun, I’m pretty sure the BP average of Guy players in Japan would be a lot higher right now, since there are so many high BP Yuns.
If you position the elbow where the head will be, his LK DP will definitely get you. In fact I’m sure all of them will. The only time elbow ever beats that is if you’re 1-2 character spaces away and he tries to DP you… Of course Yun can just walk forward and cr.LK to avoid the elbow drop, so he doesn’t have to take that risk. Elbow drop is not a viable way to control the air against Yun. His dive kick is too fast for you to beat with Elbow drop on reaction, and if you’re jumping around doing elbow drops, he just needs to walk forward and press cr.LK or dp+LK.
To everyone who’s played (myself included), it doesn’t seem like the range on U2 has increased at all. Honda MK Buttsplashes, for example, are still unpunisable on block.
I disagree. Elbow drop is an essential tool in the match up and shuts down dive kicks and to lesser extent DPs. While you cannot Elbow Drop dive kicks on reaction you take little risk throwing them out on anticipation. It’s very easy to simply neutral jump when they jump and use an Elbow Drop. I forgot to mention, you could TK Izuna Otoshi dive kicks on reaction quite effectively as well.
I think you misunderstood what I intended to mean. To clarify I said to position the elbow where his head will be, as in during his DP. Yun cannot walk under an Elbow Drop at this spacing. At worst I have traded but normally beaten out non-EX DPs consistently.
Admittedly, where I play there are not many twins players but the ones who I play against arent any scarier than they should be, and those guys are better players overall compared to me. My personal match up is 4:6, Yun & Yang arent counter picks for Guy - very winnable match ups with onus on who is the most efficient with their offense.
One of the earlier change logs said that strong Bushin Flip was slightly harder to land and fierce was a lot harder, but jab and ex were unchanged, is this true ?.
ps -I was fine with the damage on the super, Id rather it always connected fully against all characters and in the corner then a damage boost.
Most people who are playing now said flip range is just the same…am guessing the ppl who played guy in the loketest werent very familiar with him…
And Super is now 400dmg i think , not sure…and it connects fully on everyone…even as an anti-air as seen in one of the vids…
