SSF4 AE Guy Changes

Awesome news.

Wow,Guy is gonna do so much more damage now that ST.HK punishes everything easily. That shit hurts on Ibuki,Akuma, twins,Adon etc.

Wow great news about this and st.hk…is this combo hard to do? I have no problem doing command elbow into cr.jab…pretty easy but how is this one in comparison??

The st.hk fix is gonna help guy a lot cause there were another round of damage nerfs in AE so guy being able to punish good helps.

I think we need to practice cr.lk into st.mp so we dont have TC whiffing on us. There’s honestly no point in adding an extra jab when TC is a hit confirm on it’s own which we can cancel into anything. Just wish that link was easier lol.

Cr.short links now are annoying and dont really flow at all.In AE,Cr.short will basically just replace jab.

I’ve seen people hitting cr.short x3 into bushin chain with ease.Right now though, that combo is pretty hard.

isn’t it the same? in ssf4, it’s similar to sagat or bison’s cr.lk where you have to time it to link. Sagat was my secondary in vanilla so I’m mostly used to it but I’d be surprised if they changed the timing in AE. I dont think you can mash it like you can with jab. I just want cr.lk to st.mp to be easier cause that’s gonna be a very important link for guy but people are saying it’s the same.

Yah cr.lk don’t flow very well and feels unnatural.

while learning bison’s c.lkx3 scissor, i used this website: METRONOME ONLINE - free! set to 160 bps. it is the correct timing for 3 f startup lk with +4 on hit. guy’s should be +5 on hit so it should be easier. try practicing the c.lk links with bison for now using that rhythm, it will help alot (especially if you memorize the beat and can play it back in your head without the website eventually) towards making muscle memory

I think Combofiend said it was easier.

i think adon’s c.lp is equivalent to guy’s new c.lk in terms of frame data (assuming 3f startup and +5 on hit), so you can try linking his too to get a sense of how it feels now probably

I’m getting giddy. :0

Did someone mention they improved Ultra 1? If so, how?

I played with Ultra 1 today and it felt like it hadn’t been tweaked. I think someone mentioned it was faster but I couldn’t do anything new with it. I was really hoping Bushin Chain with throw ender to Ultra 1 in the corner would work but that failed to connect.

Damage seemed the same as well.

After playing a bunch of AE the past week or so I can make some solid statements about Guy. So here goes…

NORMALS

  • The new cr.LK is beast for sure and can be used like Dictator to interrupt strings. So you don’t have to rely on EX Tatsumaki. Also going into target combo is really strong from this so frame trapping will be alot more scary.
  • St. MP feels better with a bigger hit box for sure.
  • St. MK is what it shoulda been in console thank the gods for this one. Using it in console felt like it was a chore and you should just opt out for st.MP instead. This time around I’d say its back to its old status in A3 roughly. Close MK to stuff is great, when I say stuff I literally mean a good deal of combo possibilities are present which lead to some interesting combos and mixups.
  • Jumping Elbow STILL not overhead but has same priority as console.
  • Overhead is back to old A3 status being a 2hitter with lots of range and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could meaty it into cr.LP to target combo to whatever ender of choice. Kara Cancel overhead is still intact.
  • I could be going nuts but cl.HK may seem to have a larger hit box. Need to double check on this though…
  • CR.HK is at least a frame or 2 faster. Still a great tool for those that like to walk back alot from trapping.

HOUZANTOU

  • Houzantou is light years better in AE than console for sure. MP Houzantou is the go to for anti projectiles, feels like A3 HP Houzantou. DEFINITELY a plus! LP and MP Houzantou are what they should be and are relatively safe, and I do agree from what I played in JP his LP ver. still seems safe from SPD.

BUSHIN FLIP

  • I personally am still torn by this move as the elbow is still not overhead. Yes the dmg is toned down but only by 20pts for sure so instead of 200 its now about 180. Elbow has the SAME priority from console…not bad but still no overhead~
    -Trajectories are the exact same.

BUSHIN RUN

  • More effective due to the new + frames on block so run stop feels alot more safer on different normals. In other words, we won’t HAVE to rely so much on target combo for the best frame adv. on block to advance.
  • EX Run Stop does have armor but its in a weird place. Like RIGHT before the slide animation goes active. Its a plus but just gotta learn more about it. I feel EX Run Stop to absorb attacks will make for some interesting things…MAYBE…
  • Doing moves after absorbing during Run comes out faster a-la Fuerte so escaping bad situations with EX Run Slide is really effective. Going into neutral position is great for this so plus 1 on this.

KAITEN IZUNA (AIR COMMAND GRAB)

  • Same as console
  • EX still grabs DP’s lol

BUSHIN SENPU (TATSUMAKI)

  • Same as console
  • EX STILL doesn’t hit both sides sucks still a good reversal that’s hard to option select and safe jump consistantly.

BUSHIN GORAISENPUJIN (ULTRA 1)

  • Same as console, doesn’t seem that much faster.
  • Still doesn’t do much dmg from FF Chain, U1 in corner. I don’t agree with this since Rufus can get some silly dmg from his so why can’t Guy…

BUSHIN MUSOU RENGE (ULTRA 2)

  • They adjusted the grab box from when I tested it in JP. At that time it had Rose’s normal grab range with the same start up. Seems like the distance is a LITTLE less than that with still good dmg when you land it.

MY PERSONAL OPINION? disclaimer: take it with a grain of salt since its MY opinion

  • I think Guy has gotten light years better than his console rendition by far. BUT I think that his changes are what he SHOULD’VE had in the first place so that in the final rendition aka AE, he could’ve gotten even better to compete. I still think U1 should be able to go into full animation mid screen. Yes his corner carry is strong already but there are times when he could really capitalize of certain situations outside of trying to land a focus to nail it for dmg. Guy now tags the opponents feet more often than not trying to force them to stay put. I think that is a good help but at the same time, its just a matter of figuring out another use for Bushin Flip for offense.
-Competitive enough? I think so. Just have to be solid with the engine and knowing all the option selects and those little quirks. Maybe I’m asking for too much but he just doesn’t have any REAL advantages. Just have to play solid all the way around.

DISCUSS~

wait a minute… how much hit stun does cl mk do cause doesnt CH give +3 on medium and hard attacks, cause in that case since cl mk does +6 if what i heard that means CH does +9 which means Guy can do a cr.HP on CH…

 yay stun and damage

command elbow being an over head would be over powered IMO

it would only be overpowered if it had great hitstun off of it.

Guy flip elbow and jumping elbow straight up DESERVE to be overhead because its ALWAYS been overhead. Its like saying Ryu’s dp shouldn’t be anti air because it would be too good. Please understand that again he’s always had this in his tool set. This is the first game they took it away from him and as far as my opinion goes he should have it. If Akuma can have his tools from flip intact why can’t Guy again?

^Scrubs would probably complain about it and it would get patched out in the next version anyway.Capcom just wanted to take a shortcut.

Also, thanks for that information on the previous page.Very precise.

I like how you cleared up the U2 info aswell. So it was only Rose’s grab range at the location test (I assume by JP/Japan,you meant SBO loke tests?).

vids of Nox2 playin AE.

Wow thanks for that info. Someone also said Guy’s Far standing Hk rivals chun li in range? Does that mean we have a stupid far poke we can abuse?

Welll Regular elbow is an overhead, but flip isnt… which is retarded… and doesnt do chip damage… But in Alpha series it was harder for Guy to even Land a Bushin Flip, aside from the combos (which were mostly from counter hit) or an opponent jumping during a block string and you timed your attack right.
