SSF4 AE Guy Changes

Oh, this was asked some where in the thread, not sure if it was answered but…

s.RH connects a lot easier now. I’m punishing all sorts of uppercuts with it, no problem (the twins cry bloody murder whenever they get hit by s.RH> Bushin Chain). I even punished a Guile Flash Kick today with s.HK, and that was probably the hardest uppercut to punish in Super with s.HK. Good times.

oh really, that’s great cause it makes a big difference in guy’s game. Now we’ll be able to punish things much more heavily and for some larger character we can do st.hk, st.hp, st.mp xx ex hozzanto for good damage and stun. I hope it’s doable with crossup mk, st.hk BC throw…reset for crazy damage

yay … this made my day … Am guessing it will not Whiff on anyone now after FA lvl 2??

Yo what’s good people? I’m a Socal guy player whos played AE quite a bit. I got some footage of me playing at Family Fun Arcade. I’m a fairly known player over here who’s played with the big names out here. I’ve gotten some tips from combofiend, justin wong, and alex valle so I know what I’m talking about before I get haters thinking they know what they’re talking about. To be honest, very few people actually know how to play guy effectively and how his match ups actually work. But I’m here to answer questions and discuss how he is now in AE. He’s a little better but don’t expect much. It’s still early but I’ll project him being mid-tier at best. Target combo still whiffs if the opponent is far away but is it way better and more usable. His best aspect is his 3 frame short which helps him out a lot in different situations. I’m still training myself and trying to get better so I’m not perfect but if you have some AE questions, I’m down to discuss em.

P.S. Yun and Yang are FUCKING BROKEN. I’ll played justin wongs yang and marns yun and the options those characters have are ridiculous. I know them as players are godlike but yun and yang are really good themselves and are gonna look to be really bad match ups for guy. Anyway, he’s short footage of me playing AE.

most questions are asked in this thread so if you have anything to add just let us know. Also wondering if U2 has better range and do you use hk,BC to punish now since people are saying it whiffs much less.

man, guy’s c.lk in ae brought me to tears. i almost tried to do a scissor kick after doing c.lkx3 (i used to be a bison main). profound happiness…

Hey guys, wussup. I’m currently learning Guy as a main along with my other main DeeJay. I really like how Guy plays and I think he’s a lot of fun. I hope I hope I can learn alot from posting in these threads. Also the closest arcade to me has AE so whenever i get a chance to go I can test some things out too.

I dont think they did anything to U2 except maybe nerf the damage. The range still seems shitty at 2:40

Yeah from what I experienced it seems they just left U2 alone, people can still jump out of it on reaction when it’s activated.

It will never be 0 Frame… with Guy’s mobility he’d instantly be High tier from the get-go even if the Ultra did 400 Damage.

Oh I agree with you Blooddrunk, not complaining about it at all besides I hate braindead ultra links like ryu/sagat. Working hard to grab someone with U2 is super rewarding.

I agree with the reward factor with U2, but when I started using it, I noticed a downside to it (apart from the obvious matters of course). Maybe it’s just a personal thing, but having U2 charged up sort of hindered my normal gameplan - I would have the ultra in mind and maybe work around trying to nail that, instead of just using Guy’s normal tools.

So I pretty much stopped using it again, and only sometimes do I pick it now. With ultra 1 I feel it is easier to concentrate better and focus on the fight alone. They should have scraped that ultra altogether and maybe give him something anti-air instead. At high level I don’t know if the current U2 is applicable. It’s just a crappy version of the demon.

IMO the kick super from Alpha 2/3 should have been his regular super and the anti air punch super should have been U1 in this game.Doesnt really matter now because it wont be changed ever.

The thing about ultra 1 is it has absolutely no other uses. You cant use it to go through fireballs,it wont work as an anti air because only one or two hits connect and it has terrible startup and reach which means its hard to use it on reaction to a characters special move or something. To its credit,it does leave you in good positioning afterwards for a cross up into whatever.

Guy shouldnt really be played around his ultras though.

Correction can be used as AA in the Corner if timed correctly. But really it doesnt have much use but Guy doesnt need his Ultras all that much unless you catch someone with a Hozanto near the corner.

Yeah that’s why I think Guy’s U1 should have vacuum properties like Rufus’ U1. Personally, I’ve been using U2 for a WHILE now, just b/c I love pressuring people and opponents who know Guy are a little hesitant to press buttons or use a reversal if they see that U2 stocked (generally speaking).

Apart from the matchups where U2 punishes a move… I normally pick U2 against offensive chars … Its one more move they need to worry about and it also kills safe jumps if you see it coming…

But I think U1 should be better now since people are saying it has faster startup … so am guessing meterless ultra setups in the corner is pretty good…

And have u guys noticed that Bison U1 when used on non grounded opponents they dont juggle?? :looney:
But i dont think they will give guy u1 this or rufus like vacuum property …he would get setups outside the corner and i guess thats not what capcom wants…

Is it me or did EX BSK push itself really far back on block?

maybe it’s corner only or character specific. Needs more testing but if it happens all the time then it’s a good buff cause it shuts down some punishes from characters.

I confirmed this combo to work…

Jumping D+MP/ Forward, Cl forward, TC to whatever.

Works on croucher as well

I’ve been playing Guy extensively since AE came out and I havn’t whiffed after focus crumple of any sort so far on any character. I’ve also hit successfully after J.HK 100% so far.

They appear to have expanded the hitbox to a significant size.

TC’s second hit occasionally whiffs if you input one too many jabs/shorts on certain characters, otherwise TC hits consistently after two light attacks. Sorry if this is old news.
