SSF4 AE Guy Changes

Tony/ZTS/Sleepy Zero: Are you positive that jab shoulder is -1? This would mean absolute rape vs. characters still stuck with 4f normals. Can’t interrupt and can’t jump out. Has to risk an invincibility move vs. c.short.

Easiest way to confirm is to do it vs gief, and look for the reversal sign on spd while jumping away. If it works, that means lp hozzanto is at least -1

I hope U1 does more damage, or not even that just…not get tied down to damage scaling as much.

If Ultra 1 didnt get so badly scaled after bushin chain,Guys corner rape would be improved ten fold.

if you look at the 2nd round of the sagat vs guy match. right at the start guy does what looks like fierce shoulder. it looks faster for sure… start up looks the same but it speeds up as guy is turning.

Guy’s LP Shoulder is -2 on block though…characters with a 4 frame normal can get that out before Guy gets out another attack (including his faster 3 frame cr. lk), right?

how do you know lp hozzanto is -2?

i might’ve thought of something interesting against bison’s scissor pressure. if bison has you cornered and tries to do cr. short xx short scissor after a previously blocked short scissor… i’m curious if guy can EX run stop and absorb the cr. short and the 2 hits of scissor. if this works that’s a guaranteed ff chain throw along with resets. can some one test this?

So if Guy is at -1 now after blocked lp hoz,then against characters without a 3 frame normal we can just press our new 3 frame cr short and it will beat whatever they press?

Guy is still far from braindead.Guys pressure game just got a whole lot better,which is fair really,because that should be his main strength.

You’re missing the point. People always seem to want to go for frame traps. At the range where jab shoulder ends up when blocked, you don’t have to block ANYTHING barring stuff like shoto c.fwd/c.rh. If people mash jab or short, they can eat a whiff punish TC into Hozanto into BSK.

If Jab Hoz is -1 in AE, this will be improved. If not, it’s still good. Just look at all the Yun players doing it with jab shoulder. Same concept, different character. Except that having c.lk at 3f and jab Hoz at -1 would mean that characters who are not Dhalsim or Chun-Li can’t jump out of corner pressure (they jump faster than the rest of the cast).

It’s not as good as it sounds cause after the cr.LK you’re only in range to do another s.MP> Cancel whatever. If you do cr.LK> TC, the HP will still whiff. So, TC> Houzanto> cr.LK might be a great blockstring now, but it doesn’t really leave in you in the range to put real pressure.

I’m still experimenting on the best way to apply pressure after the TC> Houzanto> cr.LK block string.

I’m thinking the best would be to mix up between:

a) walk backwards a bit, whiff s.MP (buffer Run-Slide)

b) Over head

c) Some form of walk up cr.LK pressure

Come to think of it, now that cr.MK has better range, maybe

d) cr.MK, will work as a decent frame trap into knockdown

These are the things that are still being worked out now that Guy 2.0 has so many more options at his disposal. He’s better no doubt, but besides the new “When in doubt, press d.LK OS Tech” he still doesn’t have anything that feels braindead (yet) imo.

heh, I was saying it a bit jokingly. But that’s really nice. Now it will almost be like Bison’s scissors pressure or should I say Galactic Tornado-like (except Rufus doesn’t have 3f normals).
In SSF4 (console), you were pretty much trying to avoid ending strings with LP hozanto once you conditioned your opponents to block (beacause you pretty much lost all momentum), but now (at least against certain characters) it might become the best option. Some characters’s goal will be not to even block that. Mixing it up as much won’t be needed. I guess Guy will become much easier to play.
The thing that I liked about (old) Guy is that his pressure was pretty strong, but there wasn’t a single option that dominated (like Bison’s LK scissors). I think he could easily go into the upper ranks now with time.

People keep saying it ‘might’ be -1 … has anyone tested it out with Gief ultra1 ??? …LOL if its 0 or something

And about the C.Mk buff… I hope the range on the second hit is increased … in many cases the first one hits and the second whiffs completely … would be a nice buff if the second hit range also increased…Thats the more important hit anyway…

I find it annoying that cody’s slide breaks armour and guy’s doesn’t lol I guess run xx hk is supposed to but that move sucks in general.

Tokido said there are some good damage combos with cl.mk I think. I wonder if he just meant cl.mk, tc…
