Was Guy also an underused character in SF Alpha days aswell? Of course theres that famous video of Daigo beating jason cole with him but were there any other really memorable Guy players outside of Japan?
Having an underplayed character is a double edged sword, theres alot of people that dont know the matchup. On the other hand it takes us longer to figure out counter strategies because people arent doing the right things against us.
I think one of things that have to be exploted is his game around the corner. And I don´t mean corner traps or resets. I mean entire games around the corner.
Finally got to U.Pinball to play it yesterday. The only thing I saw that might not have been mentoned is the startup for Hassoken (anti-air super) looks faster. In regular super I couldn’t use it to catch people in the air. I was able to do that last night. The overall changes really helped. That’s it, everything else is already posted…
^This… Also…I Believe even now, Guy isint “Low tier”…Nor Do I really believe In Tier list anymore, If Im not mistaken, combofiend made it to top 8 in EVO using mostly guy and a Sub, People forget that…Guy Has options for ALMOST…everything, Plethora of Anti-Airs,normals, nice Frame traps, A “GTFO” off me move with Ex kicks, (Even though not safe), Guy has options for almost all situations, but being able to React and USE them all on the fly is what seperates Kiryu from all of us other guy players.
EDIT: I took my guy to my local scene at xandu, and NEC…And I actually did pretty well, I put guy in the same category as Makoto,Viper, fuerte…Mad Unpredictable, and not alot of people play them, so when you come across one that knows what there doing…Its a problem!
I’m guessing that he just means pushing your opponents into the corner very early in the round, and then never letting them out. When your opponent is in the corner, Guy can apply tons of pressure and has all the answers to keep the opponent in the corner (and punish them if they attempt to get out). Ideally, making your opponent stay in the corner for the majority of a match should be every Guy player’s goal, but sometimes, it’s just not going to happen.
You went to NEC? I didn’t really see any other Guy players other than D’Nyc3 and Dieminion.
just use mk tatsu to beat that bitch. What annoys me though is on guy’s wake up, I see rose doing mk or some shit and I do U2 on reaction. The ultra comes out while she’s still in animation but it whiffs point blank. That’s just retarded, dont know if she’s airborn with that move but guy has too many technical difficulties against rose.
Guy, maybe even more than a lot of the higher tier characters, is an absolute corner beast.
Think of when you have someone cornered. It’s a lot like how Yun players mash out s.strong into jab shoulder. You’re going to be getting that guaranteed chip damage all the time while you have them cornered. The most reasonable ‘counter’ to this would probably be to attempt some sort of backdash punish after it, or have characters do nothing, and Guy can just keep spazzing out shoulders until they get bored… then run-stop comes into play. Although none of them leave you at an advantage, it’s going to make them want to try to hit you out of any strings, which leads to jab shoulder hitting them with counterhits, or trading (better if you’re a U1 player).
The better part about Guy’s corner game is the fact that any jumps will lead to them getting tossed back in, be it with EX BSK or EX Izuna. It’s REALLY hard for people to try and jump out of the wall, and if they do, all it takes is one hit with a c.jab for them to get tossed right back with jab/strong/fierce d+rh.
One last bit that I caught off Nox2 is the fact that twd. + strong has outstanding reach, about Ryu c.fwd range. You can use this to annoy people who are trying to deal with your spaced sweeps and keep them standing. Using normals like s.fwd to beat out ranged attacks makes them hesitate at their efforts to try and keep you off.
That’s just a little bit. Some people like to get crazy with run overheads. Not my style, but I’ll do it every now and then.
Well thats good to hear i guess… It looks like even the Japanese consider a much guy better character now(He was too low in the jpn tier list imo)…
And what happened to this R guy… I remember he placed high in NSB and various Japanese tourneys…
R probably played Boxer in Vanilla which is why he still has an extremely good boxer.Probably wants to pick up a new character for super AE.
Tokido always has a good eye for characters and tiers,so I’m really happy about that little nugget of info.Mid tier is all I’ve ever wanted for Guy. It means if you dedicate yourself to the character you can really exploit their strengths and overcome their weakness/bad matchups and not be limited by bullshit like TC whiffing 50% of the time.
-U1 got much better. U2 is still better overall.
-No reason to ever lead with c. LP ever again
-LP should buff is huge. This plus 3 frame short are his best changes.
-New EX Run has so much potential. Time will tell.
-Guy still isn’t very good but he’s better. Bushin Flip is still ass.
how is U1 much better? and I’m still waiting for confirmation if U2’s range increased and recovers faster…so lp hozzanto is -1 now right? thats good because it buffs the matchups against grapplers but I guess if they have ultra it will still lose which sucks. I think all of guy’s specials are punishable.
So does the ex run recover faster or you just talking about 3 hit armour. I also hope ex tatsu doesnt whiff like it did in ssf4.
