Completely agree with this. I used to think this matchup was still 6 - 4 in Gief’s favor even in AE with the EX GH nerf, but I’ve found that the nerf is so significantly game-changing for him that I could see this matchup potentially being 5 - 5 for Gen now. I think it’s pretty even, but as of right now I don’t think Gen has enough to genuinely have the advantage over Gief.
Definately.
What I hate about her so much is that (assuming the chun player is on point with everything) is that her footsies all seem to have better hitboxes. Every goddamn time I try to poke I get dem hp fists in my face. Not to mention her annoying fireball>dash up front which pretty much ensures you have to block low unless you want a sweep, and jumping in just results in dem anti-air fists aswell. She’s like a Gen with a fireball and slightly better normals/footsies. In AE I don’t feel like Gen has many true 6-4 or worse match-ups (my opinion, come at me bros) but Chun-li is one of them for sure.
They can feint and block against an OS’d U1
well actually yes, in case they’re already aware of that (i dont think they’re in great number though) thats a big risk
T. Hawk. It’s like he’s everything Zangief isn’t as far as beating Gen is concerned.
Bad match-up or just me?
I never had huge problems against good Hawks before. They don’t have a godly 4f chop unlike a Gief, and their wakeup offense game seems to be inferior to Gief as well. As long as you air to air him whenever he jumps from close to you, and you can keep him out on the ground, there wouldn’t be much problem. Different from Gief, they will almost always end up relying on jumping to get close to you, because their condor spire doesn’t travel a lot of horizontal distance and you can poke him out during recovery. Crouching pokes work better just because of their random far s.HK, probably the only normal that outranges Gen’s normals (not 100% sure about this since I didn’t look at his data)
Oh btw, the difficulty of this match-up is vastly different between online and offline.
Not terribly surprised to hear it is just me then. That s.HK of his is usually the start of my problems and has left me feeling like Gen had no advantageous ranges against him.
I’ll try crouching more, thanks.
I’ll do a small write up on T.Hawk. I’ll post when it’s been added.
Hakan updated.
I play a Viper main all the time. His tendency to use Ex Seismo Feint on wakeup gives him invincibility. He’s not using it purposely for the Ultra, but it will get him out of it.

woa nice videos
I’d just like to throw out that Gen’s standing jab in both stances is AMAZING at stopping twin dive kicks.
Yo Messiah, still havent gotten the Gouken info spaced out?
Very informative. Thanks! Putting it into practice is going to be the hard part for me.
The option selects will probably work against most viper players, since most of them either do hp.tk (failvipers) or ex seismo/feint. Thanks for those option selects, didn’t know about those.
i have to try this, because they just jump over my pokes like they don’t give a crap
Just to recap the Rog match-up. Ever since I started doing c.MK, Hands to counter Rogs rush punches, I’ve had way more success playing vs them. I got this idea from Daigo playing vs PR Rog back in their hotel matches which Chris Hu did the commentary. Anyone who can do hands and have problems with rogs who use a mix of all his rush punches might want to try this technique.
Just gonna throw it out there that tha messiah is pretty much the best person.

On a more serious note he is pretty awesome to us.
LOL Thnx guys. I’m not that great. I just want to help out everyone by taking in as much information from experienced players. I may not be, and don’t what so ever claim to be one of the best gen players. But I will say that I can sit back and pick out what works, what doesn’t and when they work and don’t work, etc etc.
