SSF4 AE 2012 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (New)

wtf!? I thought I posted this in general discussion, not MU thread. I guess that is what happens when you post stuff while half awake.

TYVM regardless!

are there usually very strong players at CC?

Yes. Competent international players from a lot of places are making their ways here. Our own hometown has Jozhear as our strongest. If you’d like more info I’ll post it on general discussion thread.

I’ve been practicing against a very strong Ibuki lately, learning some tricks there. For players who don’t know the Gen matchup, it’s easy to hit strings of cross up ogas via sweep->mk far oga->sweep and so on. Gen’s mantis mp is a godsend here, but Ibuki’s back+mp really kills any Gen jump ins with very little reaction required. Try to keep this matchup to footsies, but be weary for neckbreakers and especially counter pokes, as any Ibuki normal can lead to big damage.

Does any Gen player in here ever use EX Hand combos? I realized earlier that it was the EX move I used the least, and the only time I ever see it is if I messed up pianoing.

Does using it to get the link into sweep help with any match ups?

EX hands combos are still pretty much used, Gen uses it alot vs AKuma matchups.

It links to sweep for all except Sakura, Guile and Juri.
it links to walk forward sMK lk Gekiro on deejay, and walk forward TC2 gekiro on deejay
it links to crane cMP light jyasen roll on Rufus and Dudley
it links to crHP on ALL characters.

Its good to use stunning your opponent and also if you are looking for damage and hard knockdown

What kind of safe okizeme does Gen get off of a knockdown though? In my experience, it was always better to go for the Gekiro finish for the damage and setup off of hard Gekiro. I know you can setup up the perfect meaty, but that’s about all I know. Plus it’s not like Gen is a stun machine to begin with.

And why is getting the hard knockdown on Akuma so important to the match up? This EX hand thing is blowing my mind right now haha.

basically there are seven+1 things you can go for after a knockdown with Gen

meaty attack
safe jump
attack low
overhead
go for frame traps
throw
unblockable
cross ups

pick your poison lol!

As for Akuma, landing a ex hands sweep can make akuma players to spook and go for teleport which you can punish when anticipated. also shoto hitbox are the best to sweep after a ex hands in my opinion.

Aren’t both Supers more valuable in the Akuma match up though? Akuma’s completely limited on his actions once you have them.

both supers are valuable against akuma that dont know the matchup, no reasonable akuma will jump fireball recklessly, it depends on you anyway, just explaining why xian does that. I reserve ULTRA for all fireball issues, but super I dont really put much mind to what I do with it vs Akuma, it depends on the opponent.

I see what you’re saying. I was usually holding Super just as a scare tool against Akuma, but I’ll consider using EX Hands Sweep on him more since Ultra does give me the same utility.

 I saw Xian played the unblockable ogas after exhands +sweep aganist Tokido`s akuma.

Where can I go seee this unblockable Oga? O_O

Go to unblockable thread.

I am being reminded why I usually go for the sliding technique instead of pianoing, man my fingers feel like they are having arthritis attacks O_O, but Ima stick with it till I nail it down!

Lol!

Forgive me :frowning: I bring shame upon you all! lol

BTW Whats up with that Ibuki Matchup? I haven’t been losing at it but I also haven’t been getting caught in her vortex.

why is mk hands such a BASTARD to do ?! It’s the biggest weakness in my Gen game…

Its not that difficult, plink MK with LP and continue the piano motion from there. I suppose that method only applies if you use a stick.

Lolz, on pad I plink mk and hp, the wiggle mp lp mp, then press hp. But I don’t reaLly get hard all d time sometimes I get mid or light or even ex
