I wonder if any new stuff is bound to be discovered for Gen
I seek wisdom from fellow assassins.
Tonight was our city’s weekly ranbat and at the grand finals I got wrecked by a Fei Long player (reset 3-1, lost 3-0). I feel as if I do not fully understand this match-up yet. I keep eating rekka trying to get into my own pokes’ range or even having a bad luck trying to stance change almost at the same time he does rekka, keep getting hit by j.MP trying to AA in mantis stance without using EX Gekiro (which I have to stop doing btw), and endless blockstrings into command throw once in a while is really screwing up my mind as I wasn’t able to jump on reaction to this. He also seems to be able to stun Gen quite quickly, while I wasn’t able to stun him even once. Help would be very much appreciated.
What I learned is that he seems to have a weird hurtbox when walking around. I usually calculate my normals’ maximum range, and while it hits on all the other characters, it whiffs on Fei (and sometimes Boxer). I’m pretty sure he still has the rectangle hurtboxes, but it seems as if his graphically wide stance is creating a delusion, because it’s obvious I cannot sweep by hitting his front foot’s ankle.
Crane c.hk feis jump mp everything else will either trade or get beat out if not perfectly timed.
I honestly think that Gen can AA the whole cast with it pretty comfortably. Admittedly there are a few characters in which it will trade 90% of the time unless perfectly done (Cody and his j.hk, Ryu n kens j.hk & Seth’s dive kicks come to mind)
TY.
Yes, I do know crane cr.HK will either beat or trade with Fei’s j.MP depending on when Fei will stick the j.MP out. The problem is I cannot stay in crane for too long otherwise his ground pokes (I hate his cr.MP btw) will be a pain in the ass. imo, j.MP is not a major problem and Feis who jump a lot can be beaten easily.
Lemme hit the lab. be right back
ok I dont have much experience fighting Fei but this is what I got from some labwork investigation (YAY my PC is BACK!!! BOOYAAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!)

This is Fei long hurt box when he is recovering from any move or poke before he goes into neutral

This is Fei Long hurtbox when he is neutral and you notice its no where near his legs
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz313/ugo_2u/gensweep.jpg
now that is Gens sweep, hitbox stops approximately at the ankle
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz313/ugo_2u/gensweepvisual.jpg
this is usually the visual cue you will normally go for and fei leg has no hurt box if he is not recovering
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz313/ugo_2u/gensweeptohit.jpg
To actually sweep him you have to be this close lol!
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz313/ugo_2u/Ryucompare.jpg
now compare Fei long neutral to Ryu lol!!! A WHOLE LOT OF DIFFERENCE
but you made it to grand finals so I say congratulations all the same
and regarding Fei jump MP here are your options

HK gekiro vertical range is great.
Thanks! Dang, that is something I have to learn since I depend on visual cue very much. Fei Long is dirty even when he’s at neutral!
U can use his elbow as a visual cue instead. Will check balrog to see if he has the same stuff
edit: Balrog hurtbox is ok, its covers his ankles and half way through the foot. but there is no hurt box on his toes lol!
When I close from work I will try and see if any character that has that also

damn: check out the hurtbox on that feet, so take note for magical sweeps lol!!!
I believe I got better against Fei Long now. TY very much for the hitbox.
No sweat. Glad to be of service.
Whats up everyone I’ve been having alot of problems with the vega match-up. Any Advice?
Vega has long range pokes that outpokes Gen so be weary of walking into random cMP from vega, aim to bait him to wiff his long range poke then walk into him and stay in close range, use you sMP aiming for counter hit sweep or over head if he is not pushing buttons.
When vega goes for a barcelona attack, you have many options to beat it
crane cHK
focus absorb and crumple
back dash it and punish the recovery
if he does an empty barcelona attack feel free to nail him with super/ultra when he lands.
when you are pressuring Vega keep an eye for the flip which is pretty slow to recover, sweep him for his trouble.
if Vega is troubling you with pokes be aware of his kara throw, learn to focus absorb backdash his pokes or just back dash, if he option selects your backdash then focus absorb backdash.
be sure to punish every jump in he attempts and also try not to finish your light gekiro, just drop down on the fourth hit so you can mix him up afterwards
on your wakeup be aware that vega can go behind you with sky high claw
Canada Cup 2012 starting on Friday. I’ll be entering as a scrubby Gen player again. Xian is entering as well, so I’m gonna “learn” several things off of him
Go and win that fucking tournament
I have something to spur and motivate you. enjoy
