Depends on the character. I’d rather get Counter hit by Ibuki rather than thrown.
Xian lost to ibuki player from Europe … really when i feel Gen need some more stamina or damages for a reason … Grn is a limited thats why i know without a good health he is not gonna be a really one of the top character in the Game !!!
Gen was never meant to be top tier to begin with, He is an old man with lukemia for crying out loud. Gen is harder work and I take pride whenever I win a tough match. If I wanted top tier I might as well use Yun lol! but Gen is always who he is, one to be feared
in Alpha 3 he was top tier, in my opinion…
Actually Gen is very powerful. He was very strong in the Alpha series. And to be honest. I don’t want him top tier, and I don’t want him easy to play. I like the fact that people give me credit for learning such an odd character that no one uses. I’ve always been the black sheep, and love to be different. So keeping Gen out of reach from the majority of players is fine with me. As long as he’s playable, I’m happy with that.
funny I couldnt play him in the alpha series, I only picked him up in SF4 seriously after learning fei long and looking for a challenge. But in AE he is second nature to me lol! like I said am possibly the only Gen main in my country lol!
Hey all, I just spent a massive amount of time in versus with my Ryu friend. I’m spending a lot of time in Crane to get in, not sure what to do once I get there, I know i’ve got to keep the bait option in mind no matter what I do. I have a cross up Oga set up on him too but I just wanted to know if there are any big things I’m missing. The Ryu I play isn’t a Ryu who you can assume is bad either, options selects shut down my wake up game, and he’s got extremely good AA’s so not much point me even bothering with a jump unless it’s psychic.
Ryu: Patience my friend. Absorb FB’s, watch out for gimmicks like Short Tatsu, SRK. If they are strong with footsies, try to counter poke them. Neutral jump a lot, and really only jump in if you really really know you will be safe. I mix up knock downs with jump ins/cross ups and playing the “am I gonna throw you or not?” game. If they don’t have 2 bars and I’m pretty sure they won’t mash or SRK on reaction, I’ll do a early c.Short so it whiffs but makes them think it’s going to be meaty and start a combo, when it misses then I throw. I also mix that up with meaty s.Strongs that actually hit. Or I back off still in overhead range and catch them with that. Best thing is if you do Hands, try not to do them too much during block strings, you’ll just get put back into the zone he wants you and make you work again. For this match up I like to be in his face and just outside of his poke range, but more so in his face.
also keep U2 stocked against Ryu
I play U1 in this matchup to punish whiffed moves, especially considering how much I Oga in this match.
The good : I’m slowly getting to grips with using the right Oga to climb just over a fireball for metre build. I would love to compile some Oga stuff and how they deal with fireballs. I was using heavy Oga to my wall and dropping down, it kept my charge and avoided the fireball, if he got closer I could use the same or similar trick going straight down or forwards. Some Ryu’s get twitchy and you can raw super/ultra a standing whiffed heavy kick or SRK. Plus I think a good Ryu won’t give you an opportunity to use it, and I’m not fast/good enough to tiger knee it in his face.
The Bad : I can happily get to various ranges against Ryu, Crane is amazing for positioning yourself and avoiding his fireballs. I’m just not sure what I should be using to beat things. I’ve heard from wakatteru (sp?) that crane standing mk is a good counter poke. and I know he’s got his decent pokes and range in Mantis but the Ryu I play is a really solid player but at the same time he’s not afraid to SRK and he gets great reads from me too. It’s a tough one! Also I struggle a LOT to safe jump him, I know crane j.mk can mess up SRK timing but can’t use it to my advantage.
play solid and then play like a mofo, sing guile theme while at it too
whats with super safe rose matchup. WTF. not the average rose. not the above average rose. but the top 5 roses or so…super safe. nothing to really do it seems
Like rose’s who do a lot of footsies and rangy fireballs? hop kick into throw? very seldom cr.mp, cr.mp xx soul spiral? What was he doing that was so safe, since he/she had do get enough damage to get the life lead to time you out or beat you?
more so the slide into throw that sometimes i can handle. im assuming its not every rose player but hes a top 5 one im speaking of. all the spirals are safe. the slide throws seem untechable at times. cant seem to punish enough when i do get the chance. is the cr.mp spiral not a true blockstring possibly? im possibly losing life lead mainly because im so used to running through rose and i just cant stand looking at the fight not being over. frustration issues ill admit. its kinda like… hey i dont mind fighting the top sagat too much cause iknow be patient and i got this guy. but rose its like. no you should be dead and stop that spiral shit. i dont even have problem with her ultras. 1 is self explanatary. 2. I either fall back until they try their fireball walk up and ex roll through the ultra and fireball during their close in. or ex oga back and forth. or if im feeling pushy just hit them out of it (C. Cr.mK).
long story short this definitely is NOT a every rose thing at ALL. and im losing the chip damage war so i go in… and its just not time for it. yeah its frustration. the match doesn’t seem like its supposed to be at all.
screw it. rose player name
Thefury215
putting myself on blast. for the pure frustration of being lost. when i beat him. it means i played perfectly and cant remember the match at all.
FUCK!!! He plays me often on psn as well. The rose vs. gen matchup is rediculous!! You can’t punish ANYTHING. Rose can do jab spiral combo loops for ever ex spiral beatsout all of gens moves and her back dash is disgusting. Best way to beat fury is to turtle and try to punish his backdashes HARD! also focus all fireballs and make him come to you. As far as slides try to anticipate them and hit low kick gekiro. Fury knows that matchup like the back of his hand since Ive been sonning him since Vanilla. Fury is probably the 2nd best Rose player I’ve ever played. That matchup is really hard for Gen. best way to win is to turtle don’t let her get any throws and and try to use target combo 2 to gekiro because there is a small window to punish some combo’s with jab kick depending on the combo. You can beat him but you’ll have to play t survive instead of fighting fot the win. Force him to make mistakes.
i have discovered the secret to winning. smacks controller out of his hands
I WIN
Okay, most of this is coming from a boxer perspective, but most of it should transfer over for the most part. Rose when footsie based is really good, but there’s a lot of things she does that are wholly unsafe, or unsafe sometimes. cr.mp into soul spiral is not a block string at range, so if she hits you with the tip and cancels into soul spiral you should be able to gekiro all day. In general, if you see soul spiral, do gekiro input, if it’s a blockstring, you get nothing, if it’s not a blockstring, you beat out spiral. at face value, non-ex.gekiro should only trade with ex.ss and even then, because that special doesn’t have any overlapping invincible and active frames, it’s very likely that you’ll beat her out of it with almost anything.
Rose has no wakeup, she has to block meaties and safe jumps, she’s got NO reversals, ever since they nerfed her U2, wakeup is gone. Looks like meaty mantis cr.lk should be safe from all of her reversals whether on the 1st active frame or not. (9-10 vulnerable frames). She can beat meaty throws with her hop-kick or ex.ss so that’s out. Gen should be able to O/S her wakeup with cr.lk O/S something,i think mantis cr.hk/cr.hp is too slow to not get beat out by ex.ss, st.mp would be good, but i don’t think the O/S would work really wel unless you double tapped st.mp. Safe jump O/S U1/U2/Super st.mp/cr.hk/cr.hp probably does work 100%.
Rose’s fireballs are really slow, there are ranges where Gen should be able to reaction U2 and hit no matter what. If He’s a good Rose, he obviously knows what those ranges are, but there’s no reason to let him get away with them for free. You SHOULD be able to reaction mp.super, but in the past, i’ve had no luck with invincibles through projectiles with Gen. Gen can probably also jump at max distance with mantis j.hp or crane j.hk to beat projectiles at max distance.
with the slide, just late crouch-tech (in mantis lol). when you start crouch-teching, he will probably try to frame trap you with either hop kick or ex.ss, both which you should be able to beat with ex.gekiro. Afterwards, he might slide and block, and then you can stand-tech.
Personally i think rushing Rose down is playing into her hands, i think Gen can do much better from a defensive position then not. yes, she’s got chip damage, but the risks she has to take to net chip damage are unsafe sometimes, so she’s gambling. Once you establish that you can punish consistently, and you know when to, her options for free chip damage drop considerably.
very useful insight thanks a lot
LoL I caught you friend on ranked today demanded to see his Rose he refused… But I destroyed his Seth. That’s his new main now he’s dropped Rose.
Please do not create a new thread for AE 2012. I’m sure the update will make it so you can only play AE 2012 and Super, not Super, AE, and AE 2012. Either way I’m going to replace everything in this thread. I’m going to be way more active than before and I’m going to put a lot of my own time doing up my own match-up write-ups. Please feel free to help at any point by PMing me do not post in here.
