Ahhh… I’m sad. I might have to sell my 7D to pay off a $1900 debt that’s due next month. Maybe I can do without a camera for a few months and save up for the upcoming 5D Mark III?
Hmm…

Hmm…
i’ve been wanting to get into photography for a bit now. i think i’m gonna pick up a Rebel T2i at the start of next year. if there are any other noob friendly camera’s out there that you guys would recommend lmk. so this give me a pretty good amount of time to read up and learn as much as possible. are there any good sites to go to that will help beginner out?
wtf. thats sad… thats like having to sell your child…
and then buying an even better child later. LOL.:wonder:
yea. t2i is a pretty good entry level camera. a bit on the pricey end for me tho, esp for an entry level camera…
buy tuna fish riots 7D, hahaha.
i usually just read the flickr forums for news and whatever. not a really reliable source, but it keeps me some what in the loop. best way to learn is reading the manual and trial and error. you can also just mimic other people and try to copy their style.
are there any other camera’s that are a bit cheaper that you would recommend?
i dont know if buying used equipment is an option, but there are some 40Ds out there in pretty minty condition for about 500-600 bux. thats a steal! its probably 2 generations old now… but its a beefy camera, should last you a while.
yeh if you’re looking new, that’s one of the cheapest.
i’m still running a 30D, and its going strong.
yea. the xxD series are rated to last 100,000 actuations. rebels xxxD series are expected for only 50,000. That might be different with the T1i and T2i tho… so yea. do your research. but those are just estimates tho. i think my rebel is going on 80k now.
You have no idea how jealous I am.
OH MY GOD. I managed to save my 7D from having to be sold!
My days of racking up debt are now over, starting today!
lol. congrats.
Thanks!
Also, just spotted this on my YouTubes. Posting for those who may be interested.

TLDR: The 60D is a fail like the 50D before it because canon segmented the 40D market into the 7D/60D market. The 60D gets stat boosts (megapixel/iso) but gets nerfed abilities (Custom Recall Dial, FPS) as compared to the 40D.
So, I have talked about this before, but I like the 40D better than the 50D because the 40D has better looking higher ISO images and slightly better FPS. More importantly, the 40D has C1, C2, and C3 on the dial, while the 50D only has C1 and C2.
As for the 60D, it only gets worse. It comes down to this… if you were upgrading from the 5D, then the 5DII is a very logical choice because it does everything better, and adds video. If you were upgrading from a rebel, then the 60D makes sense because it adds all the body and ergonomic upgrades and does everything as good or better. However, if you own a 40D, then the only logical upgrade is the 7D, because everything is better, and you don’t get downgraded on anything.
So, some bullet points on the 60D:
Video only allows Green box and Program modes.
No lens AF Micro Adjust (like the 50D had)
Only one Custom Recall bank (vs 3 on the 40D)
5.3 FPS (vs 6.5 on the 40D)
Shutter rated at 100,000 actuations (vs 150,000 on the 50D)
Uses SD cards instead of CF cards (Again, if you are moving up from a rebel, this is great, but if you are moving from a 40D, then you have CF cards)
Speedlight Commander mode for the pop-up (Finally! My Nikon D70 has this feature, and it is as old as dirt)
So, overall, the 60D isn’t something that I would consider as a replacement for my 40D. In fact, the 7Dsv is likely to be what I replace my 40Ds with if I was interested in ‘upgrading’ my 40Ds.
On the bright side, I’m love that canon is coming out with the 8-15mm f/4L. Finally a wide L for crop. It will sell like hotcakes. In fact, I imagine that a few years from now, there are going to be lots of camera bags that have two crop bodies, the 8-15/4, 15-85/3.5-5.6, and 70-200/4. (Instead of the 1 FF and 1 Crop with the 17-40/4, 24-105/4, 70-200/4 that lots of people are rocking today.)
Anyway, enough gear talk, here is a pair of photos that I took of my son while we were in line for chili. Every year during harvest, we get enough hatch green chili to last the entire year. Good stuff!
yea, my next upgrade from 40D would be either 7D or 5DII. 50D was a let down and 60D is… i dont know…
REI, i got a chance to hold your new kid today. you are a lucky man, my friend. congrats, you have a beautiful family.
Thanks for the compliment!
Yeah, someone at work pointed out the following about the 60D, and I am totally convinced that it is an epic fail.
-No flash sync socket
-Plastic body shell
-No joystick
-no multi-flash support
-no high speed shutter sync flash option
-reduced custom functions
-fewer dedicated buttons
Since I use the flash so much (strobes in particular), the 60D really isn’t something that I would buy.
Hey, I know about nothing about DSLR. Looking for a cheap entry-level DSLR, around $500 range. I got a $300 scholarship, and looking to use it for at least half of the cost of the camera. I’d prefer it to come with the lens as well.
I’m particular to Canon (as my fam’s got stocks in them), but if you can convince me to go with another company, that’s cool.
In short, with that budget, buy the cheapest possible DSLR WITHOUT the kit lens to shave off some dough. Use the extra money to invest in a good lens (Google for reviews and types). The lens (and you) make the picture, not the camera body.
Also, just look at the Canon website… there are only 2 cameras (the entry levels, XS and XSi) in your price range. Compare and see if you need the extra features or not.
xsi + kit lens.
youre not gonna be able to get any other lens with that budget.
This does seem like the way to go. Thank you.
I want something that I can learn about manually controlling my aperture, shutter speeds, and such. Something that if I break, that sucks, but it wasn’t $1500…
Thanks for the input.
lol. yea. i think if you had to pick between those two options, itd be the XSi for sure. its got a heftier feel and the kit lens with IS aint all that bad. you can definitely learn everything you want on that camera.
tip: use nothing but manual mode for the first 2 weeks you get it. youll understand how everything is related really fast as long as youre taking tons of pictures and making note of them all.
Good advice. Thanks.
When my check comes in and I get it, I’ll start posting some pics.
